There are settings to adjust the length of time before the screen dims. I had the same issues and finally learned how to adjust them.now my phone does not dim
The browser also has separate brightness
Settings
Android definitely is more complicated to set up and for those coming from iPhone it can be a bit of a learning curve.
The note and the iPhone are both lousy in bright sunlight but there aren't too many phones that aren't. The phone is somewhat usable with one hand if you have large hands but I generally use both hands even though I do have large hands. I like the bright colors but the reds are extremely bright

Anyone using their Note naked?

My iPhone is my main phone, so that gets carried in my pocket. Note is my toy, but I can't find a case I like. I tried the speck case and I hated it. I can't have a case that doesn't come off/on easily. I don't want to use the case that replaces the back cover... and any otterbox type case is out - too bulky. If I could find a thin flexible type rubbery case, that might work. I had that for my EVO and it worked nicely. But for now, I'm living dangerously and using naked until I can find a case I like

No there isn't. There is a setting to change the screen time out, not as to when it dims though. I know the browser has separate brightness settings as my post above stated. There seems to be nothing you can do about the screen dimming as you enter the browser which is awful. I could see my 4s outdoors perfectly. This is the 7th Android phone I have had, been using them since Donut, I think I know my way around the Android OS...

Smart people do...

Please, why should you have to use bluetooth? the idea of a phone is by picking it up and calling and recieving calls. Bluetooth is a nice tool when driving...but alot of people don't use it. Has nothing to do with being smart or not.

How hard is it to make calls on, seriously? does it feel weird?

It's not hard to make calls on. I don't use bluetooth, either. No problem holding and dialing the phone with one hand - I don't have a case on mine at this time. Calls are clear which isn't the case for all Sammy phones.

Obviously you don't like the phone so take it back already. Mine doesn't have the dimming issue you describe but it sounds like you have made up your mind so just return it and continue with you prior phone.

Samsung Galaxy Note - Would you? Have you?

This is for the iPhone users out there. Now that a new breed of device is available to a 'niche' market, has it tickled your fancy?

No, I am waiting for the next gen iPhone.
No, I am happy with what I have got (a tricked-out 3GS on 4.3.3)
No, I might buy a factory unlocked 4 or 4S if and when upgraditis beats common sense.
No, I will never buy a Note because I'd feel like a fool with one pressed against my head.
No, it's not very likely that I go android - if Apple ****s up I'll look at a lumia first.

Haven't we had enough of these?

Yes we have. But that won't stop 'em.

Yes!!! Only if it comes to Verizon. Then I would sale my iPad. I love large screen portable devices and I'm beginning to believe that Apple will not increase the screen size on the next iPhone. Apple want's to clearly define the market; 3.5" phone, 10" tablet and laptop. But Samsung is not afraid to try. 5 million Notes sold for what is considered a niche product is pretty impressive. And it's only sold buy one carrier in the states. Verizon could easily add 1 to 3 million more. The Note is a dangerous product to Apple. When Motorola and HTC release something similar it may be the new "super" phone standard that iPhones are judged against. I still remember when people laughed at 4.3" screen sizes. But their selling like hotcakes.
And yes, I have real man pockets to house this bad boy. Girls and tight jean males do not apply.

Fools holding a note to their head
Fools holding an iPad up to take a photo

There are fools at both end of the spectrum

This poll is missing an option:

Will buy when it comes to Verizon/Sprint.

Will buy if iphone 5 screen stays 3.5 inches.

I rank "Fools holding an iPad up to take a photo" as number one.

Not only do you look like a moron but chances are your phone takes better pictures. You can use a bluetooth headset with the Note and keep it in your pocket. Problem solved.
If Samsung was smart that "Smart Pen" would double as a rechargeable bluetooth headset. Top would go in your ear and the pen body would clip to your shirt as the mic.

Yes it does, they all do. I have played with 6 of them now and they all do it. It's built in to the phone. You must not be very observant or in denial.

Not sure what you're referring to the dimming. I have my auto brightness feature unchecked and brightness turned up high. So the only time it dims is before timing out.

Good to know as wasn't sure how easy it is.

Not sure if bell took offense in thinking I was saying you couldn't use it to make calls I was just curious.

Open your browser and you will see it dim a split second before it loads, watch closely. Then open your bookmarks by pressing the button. You will see it get brighter while it shows your bookmarks. Select a website and watch it dim again before it opens that page. Keep doing this over and over and you will see how the screen dims right as it enters the browser and then gets brighter as it goes to bookmarks. As I said, they ALL do this even with brightness all the way up.

Nope, doesn't happen on my note either. I haven't been using Android since Donut, so I must be doing something wrong.

Exactly. He knows that but based on his posts, he has an agenda. It is obvious.

It is the operator. Plain and simple. Why would I and others who do not have the problem lie about it? I'm an Apple fan who uses an Android phone because of the larger screen. I used an iPhone for the last 3 years and probably waited so long to try one out because I read these posts and believed what I read.
Now that I have an Android phone and do not have the problems you state, I realize that some of what I read was a lie. You state that you owned 7 Android phones and you tried out 6 Notes and they all had the same problem you describe, yet many others here do not experience the same problem. After using 7 android phones , why would you consider an 8th if they were all junk? Either you have no clue as to using the settings on the Note, or you are patently lying.
I think it is clear to all what is going on here.
