The Galaxy note is a useless device IMO. It's gone backwards in tech by having a stylus!! And it's massive as a pocket device plus I bet the iPhone screen still looks better too.
Samsung have lost the plot lately I think, they now have a range of devices differentiated by .3 of an inch and some sizes have multiple versions. I still think Asus is the best range for Android devices.

Sorry but I disagree here. Samsung are trying to innovate. They are coming out with many devices all with different sizes to appeal to to a wide variety of users. They are also trying new software interfaces. Apple could take a cue from them rather than releasing the same design at the same size every year with a few new features...

I like what samsung is doing but the Galaxy Note is huge, I guess it has its own niche market.

Galaxys2 seems to be just about the right size although an HD Galaxys3 would blow all phones out of the water.

Right now I'm mainly frustrated with the adjustment to the Android OS, and not having the same experience as with iOS. I still haven't found a browser equivalent to Atomic Web.

I also must say I miss the Home button on the iPhone, which allows you to get the unlock screen to come on (mostly it's nice to have that in bed, so you can quickly see what time it is).
It does take a bit of getting used too.
Took me a few weeks to unlearn the iOS way of doing things.
More evidence that Android is not a copy of iOS. ;)

The back arrow button will become your best friend.
One example, Click on a link in Facebook and the browser launches... once finished with the browser session, simply back arrow to go back to where you left off in Facebook.

As for browsers, Dolphin is very nice.
I flashed ICS onto my Skyrocket last night and started using Chrome and all I can say is WOW. Nicely done.

Yes, I hear Chrome is the browser I want. I hear ICS won't be available for some time for the Note though, unless I'm mistaken.

BTW, how will I be informed ICS is available for my Note?

Kind of off subject but how would one swap between a 4s and Note? Assuming you leave your data plan as is and don't get a new SIM???

You will get an OTA notification on your phone when it's ready.
And it's a lot closer than you think.
The Skyrocket is nearly identical from a SOC perspective and a 4.0.3 ICS build for it leaked out last night.
The only real difference between the two phones is the Wacom digitizer and screen size.

I'm running the leaked build right now. It's not too bad for a leaked build. Has a couple of annoying bugs due to Samsung's desire to keep the TouchWiz UI on the device, but nothing major. Should be official any time now.

And I can't begin to say how awesome the Chrome browser is... and it's still a beta.

SIM adapter. It's what I use.
But really you should get an LTE SIM and plan (iPhone unlimited are still being grandfathered in to an LTE unlimited plan), trim it to fit an iPhone so you can SIM swap.
With the LTE plan, you get 5GB of data before throttling instead of 3GB with the original plan.

The availability of an Android update will show up in a notification that usually sticks around until you do something about it.

You can also go at any time to Settings - About Phone - System Updates to do a manual check.

Btw, the first app service I usually install is called "NoLock". It turns off the swipe-to-unlock and lets any button wake up the phone. Some people don't like their phone being that easy to use, but I do.

Also, since you mentioned night time clock use, I'd recommend getting a landscape Samsung media docking cradle if they have one for your device. When put in it, many of their phones automatically turn into a desktop clock / weather / music player... with day/night modes. No need to hit a button to see the time etc.

note_dock.png

Edit: Aha. Turns out the media dock for the Note is used in portrait mode, not landscape like some of their other phones. See around 2:00 in this video.

I got the chance to play with one at best buy for an extended period of time. I was surprised while it's big with an adjustment of my hand I was still able to use it with one hand. I couldn't reach the top of the screen but unlike iOS I didn't need too since the back button is on the bottom. The screen looked great but I'm not overly critical about resolution and ppi. I had my girlfriend hold it like she was talking on it and it didn't look any more ridiculous then any other phone and she is 5'6" petite. I'm not really one to waste my time criticizing what someone looks on a phone or whatever.

Over all I liked it. Not really the device for me but they definitely have something cool. And I will admit after playing with the note then using my 4S was a bit depressing, like when I stop by my grandmothers house and watch her 26" CRT tv after being used to my 56" LED HDTV.

Same situation as you (iPhone 4 and Feb. update). You get a new sim. I'm not sure about losing the update.

It's actually Settings>Software Update>Check for Updates. However, this states it's for AT&T Software Updates at the top of the screen. I assume this is the same thing?

Thanks for the NoLock suggestion. Installed!

Ok, so your saying its better to get a new LTE Sim and then just trim it and pop that into the 4s if you want to switch back? The iPhone 4s works fine with an LTE trimmed down sim and 4G LTE unlimited plan? If so, then I wonder if they'll throttle at 5GB using the iPhone since your data plan is 4G LTE unlimited?

Can you turn off LTE on the Note or force 2G EDGE anyway like turning off 3G?

Know any places to buy the note off contract for cheap? Thanks

First work day with the Note. After commute, I'm down to 67% battery with mostly browsing. A little less than my experience with an iPhone 4, but I've been told it could take awhile for the battery to perform like it's going to normally.

BTW, I noticed Android phones don't have the capability to take screen shots. Sad. However, there a number of screen shots in this and other threads. Is this because the phones were rooted?

Found this:
The first way involves simply holding down the Home and Power buttons simultaneously until you see a message saying the screenshot has been saved.
The second method requires the use of the included S Pen stylus which comes with the device:
The pen has a button on top of it - click the pen button once.
Long press the screen until you see the screenshot saved message.
You will also be able to edit the screenshot with the S Pen at this stage - you can do things like cropping the image, draw over it or write notes over the top.

As for your upgrade eligibility, if you return the phone within 30 days, your upgrade is restored.

Yes... better to get the LTE plan as you get the 5GB bump.
The SIM card will work in an iPhone.
Not sure about the Note, but on the Skyrocket there is no way to disable LTE without an APN change.
AT&T was kind enough to disable the network toggle... should sound familiar to 4S owners.

Problem is trying to take a screenshot and not have the phone go back to the home page. Ugh! Is there a secret?

Edit: I guess you have to just make sure to do it simultaneously. There's not much room for error.

Edit 2: Another issue I've had is with bookmarks. Other than paying for it, is there a way to get the iPhone (or my Mac's) bookmarks to the droid. The only thing I've found is Chromemarks Lite, but you have to click on each individual one and add it to your favorite browser.

how long is your commute? I could do a few hours of screen time before my 4s hits 67% I have had 6 Androud phones. The baytery will be nowhere as good on the note without rooting.

I usually press the home button 1st and then the power button right after, never have a problem, if you wait too long on my phone before hitting the power button like over a second then the task mngr pops up.

Is there like a app/feature to text/pic MSG for free like iMessage on android? I'm cheap and rely on my unlimited data for everything :D im on that cheap 200msg text that AT&T don't offer anymore..I use iMessage a lot..

I'm going to pick up a note after work and check it out..I really want that glaxy S3 to come out already but I read that won't be till Later on maybe close to Iphone 5 release..so that way I can play around with android OS for a change and pick between the iPhone 5/S3 when they are out..been iPhone user since iPhone 1..skipped the 3G/4S..
iOS is getting bit boring for me and needs a major 6.0 update widgets/better notification ect..

My music is dmr free and mostly just stream musics..

I read something about note LTE on AT&T can't turn off LTE and use 3G/4G if not using it heavy to save battery life..that true?

Don't know know anything about rooting but I'll mange to work with it..don't have windows OS only osx will that have some down draw that I don't have window OS..android devices Mac friendly ? Like syncing/hacking/rooting ect?

It's about 1.5 hours.

I'm waiting for ICS, to see how that is, before I root my phone.

That is easier. What's the deal with the androidforums, because they didn't mention anything like that?

Yeah, the screen is nice from what I see. And it would be great for taking notes in class and such (if I was still going to college). I found writing on it was pretty accurate and easy.

I could see a use for it. But honestly, not as some one's phone. As a separate device. Because I still think it's way too big to be something you carry around with you everywhere (If I had a backpack or suitcase I could see carrying it. It's way too big for my purse unless I want to empty my purse of stuff just for it, I prefer a phone I can fit with my other stuff. And it's very awkward size for a pocket). Honestly, if I were to want something like that, have a use, I'd also want a dumbphone just to have as a phone I can take everywhere.

Especially since I'd feel really awkward talking into it. Almost as bad as that phone Nokia I think put out that you were supposed to talk to the side of it.
