The screen probably looked darker whilst browsing because Samsung have added brightness controls to the browser which are independent from the system settings.

Yoy can adjust the screen brightness whilst browsing by hitting the menu button then using the brightness option

Once ICS hits for the Note you'll be able to give Chrome for Android a whirl (which I'd recommend) which doesn't have separate brightness controls. I'm not a fan of the way the stock browser has separate brightness controls myself.

I'm sorry but a stylus on a (5") is going full circle considering the screen sizes of mobile phones, also whats the point if the Galaxy S3 is a 4.7" screen size as the Note is just a glorified mobile, it's too small for any use as a tablet. Yes you have an argument for tablets, but not a 5" one. Many would even state a 7" screen is too small for a tablet. And if you don't use the stylus then again what's the point in the Note when it's specs will be a lot less then the S3 and the screen may only be .3" bigger?

Just going to point out that the S3 is 4.7in screen is more like a 4.3-4.4 inch screen of the GalaxyS 2. You need to remember that the S3 will be ICS and will not have hardware buttons and as such the space that used to house the hardware buttons is now allocated to the screen. This allows the screen size to grow without any real increase in the size of the device.

Also it is far from full circle as it is not the old school restive screen but more of a wacom style. Wacom style screen solves many short comings of the old school stylist design plus it still has the capacities touch interface so more you get the best of both worlds.

I expect the note was also part experiment for Samsung before they moved it over to there tablets. I fully expect the future Galaxy tabs to all have the wacom styles interface on them.

The salesman said it was darker due to the browser controls, which he then increased to no effect. He then noticed that the battery was going dead (the battery icon was red) and said this is why the brightness was reduced. Anyway, he put it on a charger, but I never saw the brightness change in the next 10 minutes or so I was there.

You would need to look at the power saving settings.
The screen will stay at a reduced brightness level (10% is the default) until the battery charges to what ever level was set in the power saver mode.
10 minutes is not enough time to bump it more than a percent or two.
If it was red, it was below 10%.

I actually turn this feature off. I think it's too aggressive.
I manually set my display brightness to around 20% and it works perfectly for everything but full on sunlight.
I would have to kick it up to 30% to see the screen in full sun.

Its doesn't come installed but you can download the apk on the xda website. I have a Galaxy note no root stock with vvm

I had read that, but I'd also seen mentions of the AT&T messages app already installed allowing you to see them in text (but no mention of being able to listen to them).

So, why isn't this preinstalled?

This is what it says about the AT&T messages app:

http://www.wireless.att.com/busines...ry=Voicemail&tutorialId=830040&deviceId=13410

Seems like that would be fine, if true.

It's pre-installed on the Skyrocket, but for some reason they left it off of the Note. Not sure why.
Visual Voicemail is an add on feature for Android phones ($2.99 per month) instead of being included like it is on the iPhone.
Yes... that part pissed me off.
I now use Google Voice for my voice mail and it's actually a better option than Visual Voicemail.
With GV, I can listen to them on the phone or from a web browser and getting them translated to text and emailed to me is a nice feature as well.
Some of the translations are hilarious.

I love my Note! I don't really miss the iPhone. However, I do intend to return to iPhone when the contract for the Note is completed. It was just time for a change and Apple keeps coming out with "more of the same". Even the new iPad wasn't that much of a different experience than my original iPad.

I am hoping Apple reinvents the phone again within the next two years!

The Wacom digitizer is brilliant! Along with AMOLED screen. And lots of other little surprises (some good, some bad) with Android.

It was a bit of a risk with a two year contract, but I'm happy. (Plus I figured I could go back to my iPhone 4 if it was too bad!)

Google voice works incredibly well with android phones. No need for the phone anymore you can easily text, call, receive calls all for free right from your omputer. Amazing service

Yeah, hate that. On the other hand, you get a really nice navigation app built in for free.

Personally, I don't miss enough voice calls to make VVM a priority, but one day it hit me that I was just being unbelievably cheap. After all, every DAY I casually spend more than $3 buying unnecessary junk like magazines or gum or a soda or a burger, much less what I spend on junk each MONTH.

It's funny how we'll think nothing of spending hundreds a month on many things, but tell us that something we think should be free is $3 a month (10 cents a day) and we have a hissy fit :)

I agree... $3 per month is pocket change.
I had it with my iPhone, but they wouldn't let me keep it when I switched to Android without paying the extra $3.
I opted out of it on principle.

Regardless... GV is much better and more flexible than VVM. ;)

What carrier do you have? I'm on AT&T own both an iphone and galaxy note with vvm on the note and I don't pay for it.

If you go in through the ordering process for a new Note, the selections for data package includes visual voice mail...

I'm using my grandfathered iPhone unlimited data plan.
They converted it to the Smartphone unlimited plan last year (VVM for Android was not available at that time) when I switched to an Atrix and then they switched me to the LTE unlimited when I got the Skyrocket. That's when they wanted to charge an additional $2.99 to add VVM.
I simply said no thanks.
GV is better at it than VVM is anyway.

Are you on an iPhone data plan or did you convert to an LTE plan?

I'm on an LTE, even the sim card I use is from the note. I cut it and when I use the note I have an adapter I bought for 3 bucks on amazon.

As long as your account is provisioned for vvm your good to go.

I use youmail instead, don't care about voice to text messages. When I got my GSII I was confused as to why I had no vvm lol, I'm not sure if accurate or not but AT&T told me it's only included on the iPhone b/c of the deal terms between them and Apple. Have to pay for it otherwise or download one of the free/paid apps. So I used youmail on the GSII.

Just got the Note. :)

In answer to my own question above, the link I gave was right. AT&T Messages app (not Messenging) DOES give you visual voicemail and it also allows you to see the message and hear it. It only affects data. Seems a lot of people don't know this, as the AT&T store manager, who has a Note, didn't know it (he immediately started using after I showed him). It costs nothing to use.

Right now I'm mainly frustrated with the adjustment to the Android OS, and not having the same experience as with iOS. I still haven't found a browser equivalent to Atomic Web.

I also must say I miss the Home button on the iPhone, which allows you to get the unlock screen to come on (mostly it's nice to have that in bed, so you can quickly see what time it is).
