I use an iPhone 12 Pro Max as my daily driver. I often use it for video calls whether zoom or Teams, it WhatsApp at the highest resolution each app supports. It has never overheated, and rarely used enough battery in a 45 min call to require me to charge it any more for the rest of the day. I believe this is something Samsung will fix, but it isn’t normal.

I had a 12 Pro Max for only a few weeks and I had it close on me due to overheating when recording video. It was a long video but it still happened. The Pixel 5 closed down after only like 2 minutes however which was ridiculous.

I use my video a lot on the 12 pro max and it has never got hot even when using it for a good 10-15 mins. Certainly doesn’t get warm using the main camera either

Camera app.
I’ve ordered the phone because I wanted it’s camera features and it was a great trade-in deal but then founds literally hundreds of complains about this every where I look, including some here.

Try it out for yourself and return it if it’s bad. Not everybody will have problems if this was a problem for everybody Samsung would be getting trashed for it but there doesn’t seem to be much noise

Also note that recording a long 4K video might not necessarily be everyone’s yardstick to consider owning a smartphone.

If you believe it's actually an issue than don't get it. Your choice. You seem to have you mind made up despite what some are telling you about it being a common issue.

As for closing during video calls, I would bet thats a pretty uncommon occurance. I use my s21 ultra for Duo calls all the time and it's never even gotten warm.
Not true.
I already ordered it,(it will take 2 weeks to arrive),I came across overheating complains AFTER I ordered it,and the more I searched the more complains I found.

Now I hope they were all faulty units / exaggerated cases, but I guess I’ll only know when I received mine and test it myself.

I’m still optimistic, unless I try it out myself and notice these issues.
I’m not even interested in 4k video recording for more than 10-15 minutes.
But if camera overheats during video calls or photography, then it’s unacceptable.

I know what you mean. I heard horror stories about trade-ins. Expected the worst and although mine is fully functional but has cracked front, back and camera cover glass (this part others have issues with) but received an email from Samsung today that they accepted my trade-in in full.

Well iPhone wins in software but loses in hardware features, basic ass camera on flagship “Pro” range with no macro not enough optical zoom are some examples.
maybe you think S21 Camera capabilities are just for moon pictures but if you have even slightest interest in photography,iPhone simply disappoints.unless you think photography means selfies and portraits.
I own an iPhone myself btw.
Yeah, but then try taking a pic of your kids when they're playing at a park. Not to turn this into an iPhone vs Samsung debate because I loved the S21 Ultra, but the one thing that I still notice is the shutter lag compared to the iPhone. I took a full out action shot of my son running in the park and it came out perfect, no blur.

Comes down to what you want to use it for. 90% of my usage is taking family pics, and in that case, the iPhone 12 Pro is fantastic. For pro modes, moon shots, zoom, macros, yep the S21 Ultra easily takes the cake.

As much as I loved and sometimes miss those features, I've realized that after 2 weeks of switching back that not once have I actually needed 10x Optical Zoom. I could see a rare situation where it would come in handy, but not once have I regretted not having it.

2x zoom is useless but already found a use for 10x and 30x zooms. Needed model and serial # of component and instead of getting out of the chair and walking across the room I just used the zoom. Could see it handy too when I work on my car and look for sensors hidden deep in the engine bay without sticking my head in there. Sometimes the uses aren't immediately evident at first.

zoom is definitely useful for me,it’s ridiculous that Apple is so stingy and lazy in implementing these features, even on Pro range..lol they just increased zoom 0.5x..and no macro..

I’m not saying 10x zoom is essential but give us at least 5x on Pro range maybe?
on iPhone they only focus on the very basic essentials and tweak those, hence why there are less bugs and issues.
they only move forward when the product is really under pressure and can’t compete with others anymore.(like their super late adaptation of larger screens,OLED,widgets, late removal of home button, and wide bezels etc that’s why I don’t want no more iPhones.
iPhone is almost perfect but only if you expect the basics and have basic expectations.

that being said,I’m know about shutter lag on Samsung phones, that sucks too,I don’t understand why they still don’t fix something so basic, they have all the cutting edge tech and features how could they miss this flaw is beyond me.

Pixel and some others have better shutter speeds and fucusing than iPhone 12 Pro but as a whole device they don’t appeal to me.

maybe I wait till 23rd March to see what One Plus has to offer with 9 Pro and Hasselblad camera partnership that they’re hyping so much.their phone’s are usually very nice.

Definitely agree with your point about the Zoom. I really hope the 12s has at least a 3x Optical Zoom as that would be nice in certain situations. The Macro would be cool too but I am probably going to pick up a Moment Lens for that.

Aren't we talking about shutter speed with regards to motion blur rather than shutter lag? Can't you switch from auto to pro mode and increase the shutter speed and ISO to reduce blur?

Anyone want a pair of Galaxy Buds Live, literally worn only once? Willing to give a good deal. Figured maybe someone here is on the fence and I could save you some $$$.

So following on from my unique opportunity of exchanging the 128gb Ultra for a 512gb, I would like to confirm it has all gone through! All done for just £40!

Thumbs up to Very.co.uk!

I’ve never received a discount code from very and used them for a while now! Boo

I don't know what to say.. I get the 20% off codes every six months.. usually aligned with the Samsung flagship release schedules (fingers crossed for the Z Fold3 release). Hehe.

Nevertheless, I always use the BNPL options with the codes but pay it off before first statement.. maybe that's the trick?

I appreciate this is not quite on-topic for this thread, but with those using big phones like the S21 Ultra, what weather widget do you use on your home screen, if you do?

On my S9+, I used the standard weather widget. However, on the larger screen of the Ultra, the layout isn't quite right and it seems to waste a lot of space.

I'm a bit new to Android so wondered if anyone had any recommendations.

Hi all.
See here many happy users of S21U.
I'm thorn between S21U and Ip12PMax.
Till now i had only Samsung flaships but never IP .... so maybe You'll convince me or show thread where there are happy old time Android users who switched to iOS?

I think there is always something intriguing about trying something new and different. So I would say maybe go for the iPhone.

As for me I have always been an iPhone user but this year the S21 caught my attention and decided to go for it and I have no regrets.

Actually I wonder why I have been staying in that closed gated ecosystem. I am just blown away by the full screen as opposed to the notch and the endless possibilities around customization.

I guess the additional motivation to jump to Samsung was the brilliant S21 hardware. The iPhone had become “boring “

I might go back as and when they bring something new. But for now I am happy with android.
