Not surprised. SD gen 2 efficiency is great

It may be on par with 14 pro max until 15 ultra With 3nm process
You think the iphone 15 ultra will have even better battery life? The 14 pro max isn't as good as the 13 pro max was. Still good, just not like the 13 pro max when it comes to battery life.

I would think after all the complaints about iPhone 14 Pro battery life, that they will make it a priority fix for the 15, but they will mention it in a way where they don't admit fault whatsoever.

This sounds about right, very apple like

Battery life is one of the rumoured features to really improve. 3nm chip will help a lot

On the iPhone 15 Ultra? Now that they have finally added an always on display, I wonder if they will do multitasking in IOS 17.

I am sorry but I don't see how going from 4nm to 3nm is going to help a lot.

So many people repeat the same mantra it seems. Like 3nm is some magical stuff.

Of course every reduction in process node helps but there is more to battery life to process node. We are also talking a 1nm difference not like going from 14nm to 10nm or 10nm to 7nm.

The process node refinements are much smaller now and the resultant benefits are as well.

Apple will probably optimize the software more than anything.

But I would love for 3nm to be super fast and better battery life.

plus after FinFET many people think nm ceased to have any REAL meaning beyond marketing..
"
In 2020, Samsung and TSMC entered volume production of 5 nm chips, manufactured for companies including Apple, Marvell, Huawei and Qualcomm.[1][2]
The term "5 nm" has no relation to any actual physical feature (such as gate length, metal pitch or gate pitch) of the transistors being 5 nanometers in size."
...
"However, in real world commercial practice, "5 nm" is used primarily as a marketing term by individual microchip manufacturers to refer to a new, improved generation of silicon semiconductor chips in terms of increased transistor density (i.e. a higher degree of miniaturization), increased speed and reduced power consumption compared to the previous 7 nm process."

All of which is really to say that every generation should still get better but it's not as simple anymore as oooo they've beaten XYZ to 3nm so it must be better now....

Wouldn’t go that far. Apple will be releasing 3nm A17 in 6 months which will likely increase the gap
They have to, especially in GPU efficiency where Qualcomm pretty much have caught up. And that gap is just going to be closed again soon as Qualcomm will also have access to TSMC's 3nm fab.

Maybe battery life isn't as great as hoped. Early days though

Two is ideal for me. Sometimes when things go weird with Apple, I can still get my email on my Samsung.

A few years ago, I didn't realize a botched connection to my Apple Watch was causing incoming calls to ring once then stop on my end. The caller just would hear it ring until they got a call can't be completed message. I also couldn't call out. If I remember correctly my call would ring and then end in a harsh screech. Well one day, I had what I thought was a heart attack. Lovely time to find my iPhone was all screwed up! Fortunately, there was my Samsung S9+ to the rescue!

It wasn't a heart attack, thank goodness, it was GERD acting in tandem with a simple common heart condition I do have.

But that event along with the many times over the years that I've been taking care of elders, has made me glad I had two phones and two lines. I've been on the phone to emergency services and to other family members at the same time so many times.

And we tend to think of iPhones as "they just work" and Android as glitchy. But perhaps because it's my main phone, my iPhones have at times had serious snafus that my Android phones have helped me avoid trouble on. Like missing a time sensitive text or email on iPhone for unknown reasons, but thankfully receiving them on my Samsung phones. (iCloud outage perhaps?) When I was a "sports mom" I used to give both of my numbers out to our travel group of team parents, so I would never miss important communications.

I never had TikTok but I've found social media apps to be energy vampires back when I did use them. I do everything now through the web on Duck Duck Go and to that helps save my battery life and spare me from a lot of ads.

My S22 Ultra does much better than that result so I'm guessing that phone needs to optimize for awhile.

very true and I've had the same.

Generally I do find Apple reliable but when it messes up it really does mess up and often stays messed up without you really knowing.

I've had incoming calls just go nowhere with no indication at all. Only a few days later someone emailed me to say your phone isnt working so I try it and yep, inbound calls fail. reboot and ok.

At the moment the screen on the 14pm is being occasionally unresponsive.... no gestures seem to work for a little while and then it works again or of course a reboot. Seems to happen even if I've made sure that there's nothing running... so I dont think it's memory full or even busy cpu. Reboot and its fine.

There's a bug which has been in the last few versions of ios where I call up the notes app and its empty! I panic, close the app, reopen it and there are my notes.

Usually these things are silently fixed and never acknowledged... so yeah agreed, apple is not immune to glitches

Yes! It's those silently fixed, never acknowledged problems that only rarely get discussed after the fact that have caused me so many headaches.

A long time cannot choose what color to get lavander or beige. Finally ordered the lavander one and in real life it is nice and light. View attachment 2152765
I also struggled to choose between lavender and beige, eventually choosing lavender because that color just kept popping up in my life elsewhere recently.

Then on the actual day of the preorder, I saw blue and lime! I got strongly tempted by the lime for awhile. But I firmly stuck to lavender and I've loved every photo and video I've seen of it so far. It looks peaceful and soothing and I really need that energy in my life right now.

I did get the Samsung orange silicone case for when I want as pop of citrus color.

I just pre-ordered S23 Ultra. I got a great deal on S22 from last year so trading in value is not so bad. For the free memory upgrade and $150 credit, it is good deal, but not as good as the past years pre-order. The total price is still pretty good comparing iPhone 14 pro max with 512GB.

The battery life on my S22 Ultra isn't massively bad, however I would like them to improve it and get to around that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max or 14 Pro Max. The problem with a lot of those videos was that they were using the Snapdragon version instead of the Exynos (which we in the UK had).

I think the S23 Ultra is a nice little upgrade, I think it's worth it for those of us in the UK and Europe that only ever had Exynos previously. I do think we in the UK seem to be getting better pre-order trade ins for some reason (I've got £620 for my S22 Ultra 512GB).
It again depends on usage

from AA:(https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-exynos-versus-snapdragon-3098401/)

"'2022 saw the Galaxy S22 series debut with either a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor or the Exynos 2200. The latter is the first Exynos chipset with an AMD GPU, but the Snapdragon processor blitzed it in graphical benchmarks according to our own testing. The two SoCs were similarly matched in terms of CPU performance, with the Snapdragon variant edging ahead for single-core performance and the Exynos model pulling ahead on multi-core scores. However, we found that the Exynos model offered better sustained performance in some tests.
The big takeaway with the Galaxy S22 series though is that the new Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets generally don’t offer a huge horsepower improvement over the previous year’s processors."

"We briefly tested the battery life of the Galaxy S22 Ultra variants as part of our stress test, finding that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 version lasted for 222 minutes versus 211 minutes for the Exynos 2200 variant. Our own Rob Triggs suggested that the difference between the two figures was close enough to be within the margin of error. So it looks like you shouldn’t see a major battery life discrepancy here.

I got that one, too! I spent my credits on cases. I do wonder how if I should have got Samsung Care instead but my husband says we do have carrier insurance.

I guess we will have to wait and see what happens with the S23 Ultra tests I guess. I know a lot of people aren't happy with the trade ins, but I think the UK ones are not too bad. For example I get £620 for my 512 GB S22 Ultra, and for some reason another £100 off in the basket (I posted further on up about that, I'm not sure if its a website bug or not)
