I liked the design of the Lumia phones...the cameras were great as well.
I liked them too, and also Windows Phone's design as an OS. Unfortunately 3rd party app support (or more precisely, the lack thereof) became too much of a hurdle.

I could have cried when my husband wouldn’t let me get one. 🤣My wife cried when she gave up her 920. She loved that phone.
My wife had a red one. She kept it for over five years, well beyond the end of support from Microsoft.I did fall in love with the interface on them and the bright colors they were offered in.
Ah, I loved the red one! That and a yellow were the models I was playing with. I’m glad your wife got so many years of enjoyment with hers. I have loved my Pixel 2 the same way.My wife had a red one. She kept it for over five years, well beyond the end of support from Microsoft.
She's currently on her third Pixel, the 6 Pro. I convinced her to jump to Android after the demise of her Windows phone, and she's now all about Pixels. We both had the OG Pixel and the 3aXL, but I bounced to Samsung for the Z Flip 4.Ah, I loved the red one! That and a yellow were the models I was playing with. I have the 6 Pro, too. I really liked it. I was just starting to getting into putting it through its paces and getting familiar with it when I developed an autoimmune inflammation in my left eye and then in the midst of that, one of my dear friends and then my dad got hospitalized and died. I put it aside and was just using my very familiar plain iPhone 11 for survival mode and my s22 Ultra to take notes and keep organized. She's currently on her third Pixel, the 6 Pro. The photos are what drove us to the Pixels, so I can agree with you there! I wish you could keep using your 6 Pro, but totally understand why you can't. And I'm with you on curved screens. Never understood the value/found them gimmicky, to be honest. Hopefully the S23 series phones will be THE phones for you!I have the 6 Pro, too. I really liked it. After months, I was getting back into these phones like I always am, and got a 14 Pro Max. All seemed well for about a month but then I realized it was frying my nervous system.
So I went to pick my Pixel back up and got the equivalent of a horrid case of "seasickness". That was awful. My iPhone 13 Pro had rendered me permanently unable to use my 12 mini so I don't hold out hope I can get back to my 6 Pro.
I'm counting myself incredibly lucky I can still use my S22 Ultra. I am now trying to decide if I want to keep it and trade my Pixel 6 Pro in for an S23 Plus. Or just trade my S22 Ultra in for an s23 Ultra. I don't really ever want to be totally without the S Pen and the crazy zoom. But the Ultra is not a phone I feel comfortable carrying a lot. I use it more as a home computer. So my interest in the flatter, smaller s23 phones is strong.
As to why I'd keep a Pixel 6Pro I can't really use, well it got me some beautiful shots of the full moon over the ocean back when I first got it. My iPhones and my S22 Ultra made mess after mess of that shot. They made it look like the sun in the morning sky. I know that's a weak reason to hold onto a phone. Darn it though, i really like Pixels! I'm big mad I can't use it anymore.
Getting back to my choices, I'm really loving that very plain look that the S23/23 Plus are sporting. Finally, no camera lump! And the flat display!
Every now and again I'll use an app and find it doesn't work well on the curved displays and the edge wraps around and I can read all the text! I am frustrated the S23 Ultra display is flatter but not perfectly flat.
Decisions decisions! At least they're fun decisions to make. Regardless of what I end up getting, I've still made a commitment to drastically reduce my time spent looking at displays.
With the SE 2022, which I have, I was getting an encroaching white shimmering “curtain” at the periphery of my left eye. I first got it using the SE 2021, which Id been gifted for Mother’s Day when my iPhone 11 Pro was causing motor dysfunction. When I stop using LCD iPhones and my Nintendo Switch it almost disappears. The shimmer was taking over the vision in my left eye. Fortunately I have sensors in my truck that compensate for that. But I would rather drive my little economy car so I try to keep that left eye clear because the economy car is old and doesn’t have anything fancy in it.I feel bad for you Grumpymom, that you can't use the phones that you love. If I had the problems your experiencing, I would be using an SE 2022 model, LOL.
Every new version of Gorilla Glass is always light years ahead of the last until Jerry Rig everything does the scratch test and they always scratch at 6. It is glass and there is physics. So, it looks like these phones are coming out in February. I'm really tempted by the flat S23+ but if they limit the maximum storage to 256 GB that leaves me out and stuck on S23 Ultra. I'm already approaching that limit. That's if I want to make the move from Ultra to Plus. That's just one tradeoff too many.
I think the way this is going to go for me is I will consider making the S22 Ultra to S23 Ultra trade.
If the S23 Ultra is as sturdy as talks about the new Invictus glass indicate, I may not need to worry as much about the round edges.
I'm hoping the new edges are flatter. There are some websites in which the texts wrap around the edges! It's so annoying.Every new version of Gorilla Glass is always light years ahead of the last until Jerry Rig everything does the scratch test and they always scratch at 6. It is glass and there is physics.
I still have to use a tempered glass screen protector on victus plus. Lol
But I am looking forward to the s23. And specifically the s23 plus. Let's hope trade in deals are really good next year!
I wish Samsung would understand that no one likes curved glass displays any more.
I hate that Samsung limits the plus model to 1080 resolution and 8 gb of RAM! It a $1000 phone!Every new version of Gorilla Glass is always light years ahead of the last until Jerry Rig everything does the scratch test and they always scratch at 6. It is glass and there is physics.

I totally agree. I would never use spen and I hate curved display.I hate that Samsung limits the plus model to 1080 resolution and 8 gb of RAM! It a $1000 phone!
To my eyes, 2k just pops more. The display on my old note 8 is still my favorite to date, sharp and beautiful!I totally agree. I would never use spen and I hate curved display.
All these manufacturers including Apple seem to only give their best features to the most expensive devices even if you don't want or need certain features.
Buy the ultra or you get xyz, buy the Pro Max or get 60hz, less cameras, etc.
But I can deal with 1080p and 8gb ram. I wish it had higher resolution but you can't tell in practical use. I can't deal with curved screens and crazy high prices.
at least they seem to mention SIM tray still being an optionWell it looks like pictures of the S23 have leaked, the design seems to be the same as the S22 including the Ultra, so they are still keeping the curved display (which i'm personally happy about)

Very true, tho here in the UK it's not really an issue as the iPhone 14 still has the sim tray. I'm interested to see what Samsung do with the 200MP camera, the camera on my S22 Ultra is already great.at least they seem to mention SIM tray still being an option

I just like the way that the curved display looks and how it feels in the hand, i understand that i'm probably in the minority. Using the S-pen would probably be better on a flat screen, i have experienced the S-pen slide off the corner occasionally.I respect that the curve has its fans and I don’t begrudge anyone who is excited it remains.
But for me, personally, having recently become more dependent than I’ve ever been on my Samsung phone, I can say I’m not a fan of the curve. Maybe it’s because I have my font size a click or two larger than default, but some web pages wrap the text off the edges and that drives me nuts.
And the exposed edges makes the phone display feel more vulnerable to chips to me, case or no case. It IS pretty if you’re not really using the phone, but in practical terms it’s dreadful.
So, while I want all the ultra goodies, I’m going to give a close look to the plus model. Especially since, camera wise, I’m probably going with iPhone over Samsung anyway. iPhone 15 might have the periscope lens. I find it just so much easier to share photos from my iPhone. And I do enjoy Live Photo.
Im sure I’ll have pwm sensitivity on the iPhone 15 display as always, but I do on my iPhone 14 Pro max and still make good use of it for everything that doesn’t require me to spend prolonged amount of time reading or typing.
(I seem okay watching video).
If Samsung would put a flat display on the Ultra then yeah, they’d get all my money. This isn’t a matter of expense. When I time my purchases right and factor in trades and any other deals, I can take my pick of their candy bar models. (The foldables require I budget more carefully or sadly, refrain altogether.)
It’s just that I really have come to hate even the slight curvature that much.
But I won’t write anything off without seeing it first. Samsung has been shaving bits off that curvature for the last few years. It may not be as much of a nuisance this time.
