Hate it. Thought I was all good until this morning.

any idea what's triggered it this morning?

Occasionally I can pinpoint something and often change that thing on the samsung, but from time to time it's not any one thing just a feeling I'd much rather be using my iphone (I'm putting that down to familiarity but I dont think that can be understated! it's a powerful thing)

I think it's both familiarity as well as the fact that I have to trade my iPhone in by Monday. So it's getting real now.

ahhhh yeah sure.... I always try and keep the latest of each to "play with" so I don't have the pressure of the iphone going anywhere.

Is there anything you can put your finger on that you particularly miss from the iphone experience?

yeah see I mostly feel the same way!!!

If I REALLY want to try and nit pick, I still prefer the iphone notifications and I can't get samsung to get to the same level but that's it and I still have many more smile moments and fun when picking up the s23u than with the iphone.

Argh. Samsung should come with a "remove all memory of apple" device when you buy the phone, we'd all be wonderfully happy :)

As I told @keithop, I like how notification are displayed on the status bar. And I forgot to mention how alerts can be customized through the Notification pop-up style. I have mine set to brief that way I can get edge lighting style.

It's just an enriching experience with notifications on Galaxy/Android devices.

The edge lighting is sweet. And I love how I can just make certain apps use sound/vibrate without having to use a profile.

I wonder if it's just an automation glitch. The sheer volume of rejected trades being reported makes me wonder if someone glitched the system over there. It sounds like customer service is manually overriding rejections after customers firmly question the results.

I am not sure to be honest. But either way the sheer volume and call to customer support should have made Samsung fix the issue or intervene. It is still happening so they are only intervening when customers complain. If don't complain you lose. I just can't support that kind of customer support structure.

I have to admit, if I was the CEO of Apple... I'll do the same.

I wouldn't implement iMessage for Android especially when it's a deciding factor behind people staying on the platform. At the end of the day, Apple at its core is a hardware company... it's the smart move. We all get caught up in the midst of it, but they are not Microsoft or Google... both companies license their operating system.

Edit.. But I'll at least implement RCS.

I understand that Apple is primarily a money making machine tied to hardware and "exclusive" software experience.

What confounds me is texting is different than say a software feature. Let's take dynamic island that is an iOS feature. The phone app isn't. It may work different than Android but in order for it to be a phone it needs to work as a phone that makes and receives calls to ANY other phone. Otherwise it fails it's primary function.

Texting the same as the phone app. It needs to work and be completely interoperable with any other phone to text regardless of OS. It is a failure on Apple's part not to make iMessages completely interoperable with Android devices. Why people don't see that I don't understand.

I can understand that Facetime and airdrop are exclusive but texting?

It is only because Apple is Apple that they even get away with such a thing.

I also honestly don't think it IS good business. Sure it locks people in but it is also locks people out who might be potential market or customers. By making your devices work seamlessly with others then more people who might never use an iPhone might get exposed to iMessages and want an iPhone. It builds good will when you just do the right thing.

When locking people in and profit mean more than making basic functions of your phone work for everyone it is just a crap move and greedy.

Oh one of the articles said that the new display is significantly more power efficient than any previous display Samsung has used.
OK in that case that sucks, on the other hand for people that are not sensitive to it we are getting phenomenal battery life. I would still prefer Samsung not cause the screen to give certain people headaches, there has to be a better way.

I hate you Apple. This phone is so superior yet all I can think about is putting my SIM back in my iPhone. Ugh
That can't be normal. Either break free from your shackles or accept that you're 100% Apple and stop wasting yours & Samsung's time...

I think it's both familiarity as well as the fact that I have to trade my iPhone in by Monday. So it's getting real now.

There are a few factors involved. The idea that iOS and iPhones are superior and those that own them have something that is instantly recognizable to everyone else is one.

The feeling of premium that Apple nails perfectly with their devices.

Apple exclusive features like air drop, Facetime and iMessages.

Interoperability with Apple devices.

It is a lot to move away from when you have been used to it. I had a lot of feelings that I would regret going all in on Android too.

However despite some inconveniences I have mostly not really been too bothered.

Mostly I enjoy the hardware and software better on my Pixel 7 and s23. I feel more free if that makes any sense since I still have my Mac and iPad. I can use the best device for me in any given situation and am not being pressured by outside forces against my will.

I like iPhones and eventually when Android does something I don't like or there is a true innovation on Apples side I will switch back.

But I like the freedom to choose what I want based on what I like the most and what works best instead of fear of losing. I don't like choosing to stay with something because I am afraid I am going to miss something.

But we are all different and you must choose what you like best honestly. Maybe you still like your iPhone and decide at the last minute to go back. Don't worry about it. Just do what makes you feel the most happy.

At the end of the day these are tools to help us live our lives. What we use to do it really doesn't matter as long as it works for us.

I just don't get it, other than of course, everyone likes different things :) I just don't see how a bunch of tiny icons on the status bar helps. There's only so much space, it runs out of space so then you can't see any new apps there anyway.. I don't see it's much of an advance to the led that androids used to have tbh.

edge lighting I haven't tried. Is that a thing on the s23u? perhaps that'll improve my experience?

but it does operate with android devices! you can "message" anyone from iMessage.. if your recipient is an apple user then it goes over data blue bubble and if its anything else it goes over text green bubble.

I mean if you were in iMessage, tried to message a non-apple phone and it said "sorry nope, this app only lets you talk to other apple users" perhaps you'd have a point.

I can understand that Facetime and airdrop are exclusive but texting?

not texting, texting works fine, messaging.

It is only because Apple is Apple that they even get away with such a thing.

really? whatsapp doesn't send to imessage? I dont think whatsapp even sends/receives to/from facebook messenger despite now being owned by the same company?

Loads of "messaging" services don't interoperate with each other

I also honestly don't think it IS good business. Sure it locks people in but it is also locks people out who might be potential market or customers. By making your devices work seamlessly with others then more people who might never use an iPhone might get exposed to iMessages and want an iPhone. It builds good will when you just do the right thing.

but they wouldn't need an iphone then cos they'd have the only real "killer" app on their android. Of course I get what you're saying they could see the wonderful way imessage works and want to move to get everything done by apple but I think it's unlikely.

Having said ALL that, look, my personal opinion is all the messaging apps should just adopt RCS or some common standard and work together just like texting works on everything but I can completely see why there's no particularly good argument for Apple to do it other than "doing the right thing" which has seldom been a good enough reason for a corporate to do anything.
