Since I got my Z Fold 4 and iPad Mini 6 my eyes have felt bruised (like someone has been pressing their thumbs I into them) and watery. I'm not sure which the culprit is yet...😩
That’s the initial reaction I felt using my iPhone 12 mini. Then somehow I adjusted and was fine until I got the 13 Pro and somehow that knocked me off my ability to use the 12 mini for a long time. I tried the 12 mini again last week and for a short period of use it’s okay again! I’m hoping I can use it again in the summer months when I prefer the smaller phones. Of course now the annoying part will be switching my AT&T service from my 14 Pro Max to the Mini. I’ve not tried that yet with the e-Sim situation.

I’m sorry you’re having eye pain with one or possibly both of your newer devices.

Yep. Samsung black color is always great but nothing will beat the S21 Ultra Black
That was one sleek looking phone. It was aesthetically one of my favorites. I am gutted that mine had some sort of lens defect or crack. I became afraid to use it once I discovered this defect for fear of making it worse. I’d seen reports of the previous model year phones having their lens spontaneously fracture and fall out. I wanted to preserve what trade in value I could.

Honestly, if not for that defect, I would have kept it. There was nothing else about it I was not content with. I originally planned to keep it two years.

(I just split my original post into two since I discuss two different subjects):

My husband showed me on Reddit there’s a leak of actual photos of all the S23 Phones. I don’t know how to navigate Reddit, so I don’t know how to share the post here. He’s using an app, so I’m not even sure how to find it, but those of you who are familiar with Reddit can probably find it. If I can find it somewhere else I’ll post it.

I’m all in for the pink/lilac now. I don’t even need to see any of the exclusive colors now. That pink in actual photos was gorgeous and better than the renders. The beige was pleasantly reminiscent of the Starlight iPhone SE3 that I’ve enjoyed so much this past summer. But I’m going to go for pink since I already have Starlight. And I’ve had a gold 12 Pro Max which was similar.

Here’s one part of the leaked photos:

It's interesting that you had similar symptoms. I was wondering if it was tiredness or maybe even an allergy but deep down I felt fairly certain one of my new devices was the culprit.

Basically what it boiled down to is that some aspects of the displays aggravated a pre existing propensity to experience typical and atypical migraine symptoms. Sometimes pulse width modulation is the culprit. Sometimes it’s temporal dithering. Sometimes I can’t really be sure. I would love to consult with a neurologist but in this pandemic era access is very limited and that particular specialty is apparently swamped. If it’s not an emergency appointment, I’m looking at a wait of about a year! Keeping in mind I have to stay within my insurance plan and can’t see just anybody who might be available.

I just realized the last couple of days I am having the same symptoms if if I try to read on my iphone 14 Pro max for more than 20 minutes or so.

Nevertheless, I am happy with this phone because I use it in partnership with my s23 Ultra. I'm going to have problems with any iphone at this point. Everything else about this particular phone is great. I'm happy with it. I just know I've got certain limitations using it.

I've been discussing things with my husband and I am not very likely to get the iphone 15. I think back to the S9+ I had that was pretty much the same color as this iphone and how happy I was with it and how much I've regretted trading it in within just a year. So I am really planning to hold onto this 14 Pro Max. And I did spring for the 1 TB model. That future proofs it a bit for me!

I'm happy with my s22 Ultra but looking forward to a tiny bit more refinement. I'll trial the S23 Ultra and hopefully if it's great I'd like to keep that two years as well. I'm wondering if I should splurge on 1 TB for the s23 Ultra, too. I'm not even sure it's going to be available. I know the 512 GB is going to be really expensive as it is. But if I can get it it might be worth it. I fill up more space on my Samsungs than I do on iphones. I do miss the SD card storage.

That's a shame. Maybe Apple will start putting panels that suit the sensitive eye folk on their devices at some point...

I sure miss the SD storage too! My current Samsung is my first without it and aside from the cost saving Vs internal storage I also find (*found ☹️) transferring photos and videos between other Samsung phones so much easier & quicker.

Oh yes I miss just pulling the SD card out and putting it into my new phones. I didn't need that storage to be fast, I just needed it to be there, keeping files backed up and accessible regardless of access to any cloud storage.

There are quite a few things I miss that Samsung removed over the years: headphone jack, heart rate sensor, SD card slot. Oh, and one year I even made use of the FM radio tuner! That was fun. I miss that, too!

Some people miss iris scanning but that caused really bad eye pain to me and my husband. Samsung removed it without explanation, even though it worked pretty well, so maybe there was something not quite safe about it. I know some other people reported pain with it. I actually went to my opthalmologist to make sure I hadn't sustained any eye damage from using it.

Speaking of things that bother eyes, I don't think Apple will change anything about whatever they're doing with the panels. They keep winning accolades for the quality of their displays. And apparently the number of people registering complaints is statistically insignificant to them. The Mac Rumors forum at large think those of us with sensitivity to the displays are either overly imaginative or hypochondriacs.

It kind of reminds me of when I first joined this forum and was having bizarre issues with my iphone 6 Plus. As I recall you did, too.

We thought it was due to insufficient RAM. But not everyone was having these problems and we got accused of being alarmist and imagining problems.

Goodness, I was so glad to get rid of that phone!

Getting back to the S23 Ultra, I am glad the leaks are so revealing. It's helping me figure out what I want to do this year.

The only thing I don't know is if they're selling more silicone cases with the wide straps attached to them again this year. I got a lot of use out of mine after all, so I want another one for the 23 Ultra.

I don't mind all the spoilers. I want my action plan all ready on order day. Now, whether or not their order system will cooperate with my wishes is a different matter entirely! 😅

After seeing the rumor that Apple may bring back just curved bezels, I'm even more determined to sit out the next upgrade. I really dealt with a lot of frustration trying to get screen protectors to adhere well to my iphone SE2, SE3, and iphone 11. Even when they do manage to stick, lint accumulates where the screen protector either overhangs where the curve begins or falls short of it. And of course the curved part, small though it may be, can't be protected.

I wish Apple could copy the S23 and S23+ and use flat glass but have it meet gently curved metal frames. The frame is what cuts into people's hands. That can be made rounder. Let the glass be flat and the frame be rounded.

The last time i used screen protector was on my s7 edge, it peeled out and wasn’t comfortable so i just threw it away. With the improved scrach resistant gorilla glass i don't think you need a screen protector.

I’ve had that happen on my Galaxy and iPhones. That’s why I use protectors on all of them now. Gorilla glass makes it for both brands.

Oh trust me, I need one. I think even the film one I have on my S23 Ultra has saved it a few times. I have a really good one on it. It's self healing. It feels barely there but it's thick enough to work. Unfortunately I don't remember which brand it was. I ordered two brands at the same time. One was annoying and one was obviously this good one. I have no idea which was which.

I should have been doing so many things today. But it's a grey day and I haven't felt all that great this past week. So I did only essential chores and wasted my Sunday looking at the leaked photos and driving myself nuts over colors. I like the pink the best as a color, but my wardrobe and accessories go best with every other color but the pink. What's a woman to do?!!

Hmph. I'm sitting on the sofa with a cat next to me. My husband just walked in and told the CAT that SHE is so pretty.

Ahem, I'm sitting right here, sir! Am I chopped liver?!!

He could at least admire the fact my hoodie is a nice shade of blue and that my socks match for a change.:confused:Husbands! 🤦‍♀️

I was reading how their focusing works. It sounds like it needs a pattern to do its best focusing. I wonder if that’s why my cats with white blotches or all black cats come out blurry a lot but my striped cats are almost always in focus. 🤔

Samsung is bragging about the cameras and its overclocked chipset but really everyone just wants the battery life to atleast somewhat remotely match the iPhone and fix the animation stutters in OneUI. The iphone 14 Pro Max is in just another class in battery life and 120hz on the iPhone is significantly smoother than the S22U

Arrrghhh. It took me forever but I finally got a doctor's appointment for my kid...right on February 1st. It's in the morning. I'll have to check when the event is. I hope I can get free in time. I can't reschedule. Getting any kind of medical appointments these days is like getting an audience with the Pope. At least where we live. Serious shortage of medical services.

Little point having more endurance when the OS is just a bug fest, Apples QC never been so low on there software

It's no wonder it takes them years to implement the simplest of things, the basics are riddled with issues as reported by MR

Even my own 14 Pro can't calculate my back-up size correctly and Apples solution is to buy more storage, what a surprise there
