From all the leaks and rumors it has been recently confirmed that Samsung is going to be the fab for the 8 gen 2 chip just like the 8 gen 1. I know that someone in this thread previously said that was untrue but I have read at least two recent articles claiming this to be true. It will still be on a 4nm process and not on Samsung's newer 3nm fab.Yeah my battery life was actually rather alarming for a long time, but I do better now. However, I made a focused effort to drastically reduce screen time for the sake of my health and I switch between other devices. If this were my only phone and I were using it like before, I would probably still be frustrated with the battery life, even though I can see that some optimization has taken place.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to be used on all Galaxy S23 models, but held back by Samsung’s foundry
According to some recent rumors, Samsung might be making the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 used in its Galaxy S23 series, which wouldn't be good.9to5google.com
I actually don't mind if this is true with the caveat that Samsung has improved it's fabrication process. I really want Samsung to succeed in producing a decent alternative to TSMC. With all the uncertainty in the world the more Semiconductor diversification we can get the better.
I have two phones with Samsung fab chips. The s22 plus and Pixel 7 Pro. The Pixel seems a bit better than the s22 plus. Although the plus is okay. I had originally bought a regular s22 and that would not get through an entire day.
Samsung has definitely optimized battery life in OneUI 5 as the heating issue is much better and battery life seems better too.
That being said if you push current Samsung 4nm chips they do tend to get warm and chew up battery life.
However I think a lot of people are really harsh on Samsung chips and fab and seem to criticize them a little unfairly. They are not bad chips they just aren't the best. But tech moves fast and Samsung has a huge financial incentive to do better and capture more business. Surely they have learned from there current chips and might gain some information from Qualcomm by producing some of their chips. Obviously they can't copy Qualcomm but I am sure they are taking notes.
Samsung too has heard from consumers that battery life is really important to them so hopefully it will be reflected in new phones.
The problem with Samsung is it is a huge company and sometimes large companies take time to make changes.
Heck I remember the days when they just started using curved screens and sealed batteries. Back then they had around 2000+ mah size batteries. You could watch your battery percentage drop every few minutes. This is also when they introduced fast charging. You really needed it on those phones. They have improved a lot since then.
It is a little hard to do an Apples to Apple's comparison in terms of battery life on an iPhone vs Android. Obviously you can tell which lasts longer. But the reasons for this are multiple. Not just a chipset.I love my S22 Ultra, but battery life isn't as good as on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I'm in the UK so I have an exynos version, I think that makes a difference. Hopefully with the S23 Ultra having the SD chip in every region, it will mean more battery life. I don't even do that much on mine, WhatsApp I use a lot through the day though.

Android uses Java compiler which is inherently less efficient than what Apple uses. So Apple can use 6-8gb ram and be as fast and Android with 12gb or more. More ram equals higher battery drain.
So Android is more of a battery hog by default and then when you through a ton of ram at it is even more thirsty.
Then you take the chipset into consideration and often times on high end chips performance is more of a priority than efficiency.
It would be nice to see Google work on getting rid of Java altogether and using a better and more efficient custom software solution.
However in the Android world when you compare top Android phones battery life can always be improved.
One of the reasons I actually think Google's Tensor chips and design is brilliant is the fact that they don't prioritize the highest performance at all costs. This should I theory boost battery endurance and performance at the same time. They are trying to maximize sustained loads and AI optimization which can also aid in performance and will most likely lead to better performance over time than just brute force approach of Qualcomm and many others. Obviously Tensor needs more optimization and refinement but I think the second gen is already really good in a few years Tensor might actually be ahead?
Maybe we need a 6000 mah battery in the new S23 ultra! 😂 Lol
Yeah, I don't like how Samsung has the S23 series set up... the Ultra model seems overwhelming stacked with specs.
They could have given 12 GBs RAM to the S23 Plus, there's already differentiate features between the Ultra and Plus (built S-Pen, bigger battery, better camera tech and slightly larger display). And I recall Samsung used to have 16GB RAM Galaxy devices... they could of given that to the Ultra.
Oh yes absolutely. I've kind of figured out I'm really needing a Note in my life currently, so I'm good with the Ultra being well... ultra. But at various other times that was not what I was looking for, and I really enjoyed past Galaxy S series phones that had the specs I expected of the series bearing the S class designation.Yeah they really seem to try and shove the Ultra down your throat. It gets 90% of the attention and then it's kind of like "oh yeah, here is the s23 and s23+ if you're into that."
Lol I dropped my S22 Ultra on tile recently. It was in the white Samsung silicone case that has a strap attached to it. Some editor or writer for one of the tech sites had a very similar drop in the exact same case and his phone was nicked but seemed fine initially. However, the glass fractured in the days after the drop. So I was nervous about the days following the drop.Samsung's Galaxy S23 will be the first phone to use Gorilla Glass Victus 2
Your Galaxy S23 will (probably) survive that ugly dropwww.androidpolice.com
Rofl, here in Czechia bonus for early registration iiiiis… wait for it… 10€ charger😂😂😂
At first I read your post wrong and thought your Galaxy s22 ultra was damaged. Glad it survived. Nothing worse than those type of drops.Lol I dropped my S22 Ultra on tile recently. I think what helped my phone was the film screen protector. It may not seem like much but it’s something added to at least help with scratches. I just wish I remember which brand it was.
Sigh. My husband had borrowed my 14 Pro Max to use the flashlight and when he handed it back to me he fumbled the handoff and it went flying in an arc roughly three feet across and three feet down. Fortunately there was a sturdy case and screen protector on it because it hit an engineered wood floor layered over a pad over concrete.
I was sweating that drop because I want to keep this 14 Pro Max at least 2 years. Who knows, maybe even longer. I’m not as caught up in upgrade fever anymore. I’m just looking for what suits me well now.

They've got a very strong mid range line. It's ridiculous that they're essentially stripping the S series down to more closely align with mid range stats, rather than the past standard where they gave the best they could give each year, barring any constraints imposed by chassis size.
This is no way to compete with Apple or their other Android competition. At least in my opinion. But I'm just an aging SAHM not a CEO. Lol so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
On the surface that is the case...untill you dig a little deeper. I mean the hardware on my S22U is better than my P7P IMHO. Then the camera is better only by way of better zoom. The FPS is better on the S22U. There are some pros and can on both sides but I think you get a better device on the S22U especially if you factor in the S-Pen. Don't use it much but it is very useful when needed.Issue is it’s hard to justify Samsung prices when you have pixel 7 at 599 and pixel 7 pro at 899
Some markets it’s even lower

It be interesting to see what they do with prices here in the UK, if there are big price increases I will keep my 22 ultra.Issue is it’s hard to justify Samsung prices when you have pixel 7 at 599 and pixel 7 pro at 899

I absolutely love the screen of the S22 Ultra for watching videos and movies. I also like reading most web sites on it in terms of the fonts come out looking larger than they do on my iPhone so there’s less eye strain. My near vision is good, but I still appreciate larger print. The display is very customizable and I appreciate that.Looking at more leaked photos the purple looks better. It does have a very pastel lilac which almost looks pink but it is definitely purple.
Unfortunately the only model that looks good to me from an upgrade perspective is the ultra.
I would like to know from those that have the ultra how does it feel in your hand? The squared shape looks like the sharp corners would be uncomfortable?
I am interested in how you like the screen, speaker quality and feel of the device? Does it get hard to hold after a while?
Thanks
I do agree it has a few more options such as brighter display, S pen, better long range zoom, better chipset and more customizable options certainly with good lock, better lock screen optionsOn the surface that is the case...untill you dig a little deeper.
