Actually, i just figured i am missing vanilla android so much i am thinking of rebuying a nexus 4 instead of considering the GS4.

From the looks of it, Samsung wants their phones to be S-phones more than android phones.

And sure AOKP can fix that partially, but nothing makes AOSP runs great other than a nexus.

Looks to me the saying is right, if you have ever used an iPhone, the only android you would ever want is a nexus.

I guess i can hold on to a N4 until Xphone or the new nexus comes out. Who knows what is happening in the android landscape in the next few months. Will google get to take their android back from the current hostage situation with Samsung? Will need amazing marketing from Moto and Google for sure.

----------

2 drops and 4 corners of my iPhone 5 have dings and the aluminum has been compressed into the structure :(

I hate cases but oh well, that is an instant $150 off from my phone's resale. Lesson learnt to be more careful next time.

Wait - the GS4 ISN'T PenTile? I was under the impression it was, even though I was hoping for the pixel arrangement that they have on the Note 2...

I think Samsung will (and should) be punished for the S4's continued un-premium look and feel, especially when compared to the HTC One.

A lot of polls at websites, though obviously not scientific, reflect that people favor the One more than the S4 at this moment.

HTC should, in theory, give Sammy a wakeup call. I hope.

S4 pros: gesture scrolling, air view, splitscreen multitasking

One pros: screen, overall design, speaker volume/sound
con: home button placement

Priority I: If the screen difference between these two is anything like that between the One X and the Note 2, I'd choose the One in a heartbeat. I'm really unimpressed by Samsung's screens so far, and the one on the S3 makes that phone just plain unusable imo. The new S4 screen might be much improved though, I'd really have to see it to judge this one.

Priority II: I'd really like to have the Touchwiz features listed at the top, but I'd need to see if they actually work well first. If they're glitchy and not as useful as I suspect they are for me, I'd rather sacrifice them to have a better looking phone with better speaker sound (I actually find myself quite often listening to music using my phone, without phones or external speaker.)

Potential deal breaker: home button/logo placement on the One. This may turn out to be just too annoying for me to put up with. Why put the home button to the side? WHY?? And instead the HTC logo where the home button should be - feels like an insult. This is mind boggling imo. Such a basic design flaw in an otherwise so brilliantly designed phone.

In any case however, I choose the Note 2 over these two any day. The extra screen space and S-pen + related functionality is just too much to pass up, premium design/materials, air wiew without S-pen or screen brilliance notwithstanding :D

I voted HTC One. To me it's a first smartphone that I've looked at that has made me think "Damn, the iPhone doesn't look so good anymore." The Galaxy S4 just has a cheap look to it, and I like my phone to look nice.

Specs don't really concern me anymore, it's a flagship phone so it's bound to perform. The camera really is there too and taking some very very good shots compared to the iPhone 5 and Lumia 920.

The One's biggest and most stupid flaw is the placement of the home button. It should be in the centre. End.

I would personally like to see the HTC One put HTC back on the map and knock Samsung down a peg. But we'll see.

Nickinson of androidcentral is a joke.

Here is his hands-on review of the Samsung S4 after how many minutes of time with the device?:

http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-hands-on

I quote from the summation:

It's going to sell millions, and rightfully so. It's easily the best all-around smartphone money can buy.

That is so unprofessional. Why bother penning another article within 24 hours?

Valid point. AndroidCentral has really gone down my list of Android news sites.

I should've stopped reading that review when it began with the line "You're Samsung. You easily have the best smartphone line in the world."

Forget the need to be objective - did he seriously forget Apple has sold more iPhone 4S's than Samsung has sold of their entire Galaxy S line? The only objective way to say what he said would be based on sales - and I hate to break it to good old Phil there, but Samsung still has a ways to go before they are in Apple's league, sales-wise.

Dare I say, Samsung has developed its own little group of "s-Sheep" ;)

The S4 hands down over the One;

If you are in the market for an upgrade or just want a new phone soon, the Galaxy S4 is the best, and better than the HTC One, due to bigger and better battery life, plus removable, and will get Android OS updates faster with Samsung, than HTC, plus development on the Samsung Galaxy phones on XDA is a million times better than HTC phones.

Personally for 2013 I choose the Nexus-Five

But, the Nexus-Five is a long ways off still. Most likely an Oct / Nov release, with a very slight possibility it comes out after Google I/O with a June release, but that's doubtful.

Back to the build of the S4 over the One. Yeah the One looks nicer being aluminum and metal, vs the plastic S4, but if you put a case on your phone who cares ? The plastic is more durable, can handle drops better, doesn't scratch up nearly as much as the metal finish. And the S4 is thinner with a larger battery, which is a big deal to me. You can put a thick Tough Case on the S4 and since it's so thin at 7.9mm won't look as bulky, but a Tough Case on the One at 9.4mm thick, will be very thick bulky.

If only the One had a 5in screen in the same size. 0.3in is just too much to sacrifice.

So you are privy to battery life information that no-one else has?

Bigger battery yes. 9% bigger. But better battery life? well given that the 1.9ghz S4 is around the same percentage (10%) clocked faster than the 1.7ghz in the HTC One, and the S4 has far more features like Smart Pause and such which utilises the camera to detect whether you are watching - which must add to the battery usuae toll, the difference the bigger battery at be nullified - therefore it is far too early to be making definitive assumptions that it has better battery life until we see review units thoroughly tested.

It does however have the benefit of user replaceable battery granted.

One X was 1800mah. S3 was 2100mah. That's about 14% more. The S3 lasts hours longer than the One X.

I wouldn't be surprised if the One is the same. HTC is too caught up on appearances to engineer a long lasting device.

Sometimes it's clear as day that the S4 is the right choice.

Then other times, it's "come on, give HTC another shot. If there's anytime they deserve a second chance, it's with the One."

I go back and forth.

And sprinkled in between are rare moments of "maybe I should just keep my iPhone 5..."

Feeling really torn.

Oh man, it is like someone read my mind. Im really torn and Im laughing at myself cuz i just cant decide between these two. I waited for The gs4 for months and hyped it up but it left me disappointed.

Which lead me to research about The htc one. I preprdered galaxy 4 already but im quite sure that ill just call The company, cancel and order The one. I have 4S now and love the build quality and looks. And The battery life of my 4S at iOS 6 sucks so i don't care if the gs4 battery life is better than on the one, ill just carry a charger when needed then. This is all just rambling but hope it helps anyone. TLDR; ordered gs4 first, gonna cancel and order the one. Im not 100% decided but quite sure :D :D :D

As long as the HTC ONE makes it through a day, I dont care what its capacity is. I put my cell on charger when I go to bed, regardless of whether its at 20% or 30%. I like the premium look. Ill gladly give up an extra 30mins of go time in order to have bling.

My battery dies fastest while navigating, but thats why I have a car charger. I think battery concerns are way over blown.

Except the One X didn't. It lasted about half a day for me. S3 got thru the day. It's not just 30 minutes you're giving up. It's a couple HOURS.

We're talking about the ONE, not ONE X though...Very different beast. My HTC sensation made it through the day.

Samsung Galaxy S4 or HTC One

I think Samsung Galaxy S4 is best in the market because there is a good camera and many new features are present in mobile having good processor. It's amazing you should really read about it, or read about both and see which one you like better and which one is best for you. But I recommend s4.

The s3 screen is unusable? I've never heard such rubbish. I agree that the dynamic setting is too vibrant and over saturated but in natural mode it's fine.

By listening to the podcast you can tell he's not really passionate about what he does, he seems to tell his fans "calm down, it's just a phone" every podcast. You can tell this is just a paycheck for him, they don't seem to be very knowledgable about it at all, outside of Jerry
