They don't follow tech stuff. but maybe One will have better appeal for tech geek than the female population.

I guess some people prefer the softer edges of the s4.

These two phones are not for geeks. Targeting geeks doesn't result in anything. Targeting the average consumer is what got Samsung it's lead over all Android manufacturers. If HTC is targeting geeks, it'll lose.

HTC in gunmetal without the giant HTC and garbage Beats logos.

----------

Really sad that there's no clear cut Android phone. Not yet anyway.

I'm now using an iPhone 5. ... :T

Having both an iPhone 5 and an S3, for me an i5 running Android OS would be a dream.

You should buy a goophone 5 then ahah. Its an android phone in an iphone 5 body.

The s4 is obviously the best all around phone. With crazy sensors everywhere and even ambient temperature...
But the htc one in black just looks too good to pass up. If htc produced that well they deserve the money to make the HTC TWO which would blow anything out of the water if they iron out the little flaws of the htc one. The design work on the htc one started back in 2011 so the two should be in the tubes right now.

I tell you what, everytime I have my doubts about the HTC One, I simply look at pictures like this and think "Damn, that is one sexy phone."

I'm sold again :p

81-52 in favor of the HTC One.....still surprises me.

I hope HTC gets a chance to climb into the discussion with the One. From what I've read it really is a great phone and the design and build is second-to-none (even better than the iP5).

I'd love to see more companies climb into the fight and break up this duopoly Apple and Samsung have. I've always liked HTC for whatever reason....

what surprises you?that a site called macrumors favors htc over a Samsung device?

did you expect people on an apple forum to favor Samsung?heck there is a thread in the iphone section about a guy telling us to sell our Samsung fridge and to go buy something else to boycott them.he even got a new fridge

pathetic lol

There are also plenty of fairly outspoken Samsung fans (such as yourself). I guess it just seems like the loudest fans make it seem like the group is bigger than it is.....

And for every person like the one you mentioned, there is another who tells me I'm crazy for even considering the One over the GS4 (hint: you're one of them).

I suspect the VAST majority of people are not fans of a particular brand / manufacturer and just like to use a device that does everything they want it to do.

Why some folks become so nasty about anything other than their 'desired' product and irrationally slag off competitors is some mystery that still alludes me.

We have all this crap in other sections too (Mac v PC, Xbox v PS etc..) and it all seems to be based on insecurity. Having to belittle other people choices and preferences to seem 'superior' when in reality these folks just come across the majority of the time as irritating irrational tw@ts.

Seriously both devices are great, is it so hard to give credit where credit is due. I'm sure vast majority of folks would be happy with either S4, HTC One or even the iPhone. None of the features of any of these devices make the others redundant or obsolete or not function. Any differences that a person may find preference with is entirely subjective.

To act like the vast majority of people would vote for one device over the other because of the manufacturer is just being anal. I'm sure bigger share of iOS users and apple users here wouldn't choose either, but if they did then it would stand to reason they would choose the one that matches Apple's design ethos more so than the other. This is not about brand, but aesthetic attraction.

Oh I agree - I suspect the design aspect and HTC's relative "play nice" attitude are reasons why someone rooted firmly in the "iOS camp" would go to HTC as their Android choice.

That being said, my surprise stems from the fact that Samsung has become quite popular and seems to have its own following much like Apple does. It is this popularity that led me to assume, despite the location of this poll, that the GS4 would get more votes than it has.

That is all ;)

It is a really tough decision. While at first I was really impressed with the HTC one and rather disgusted by the galaxy s4 I think if I HAD to choose one of them it would be the gs 4.

If you look at the in depth comparison on gsmarena it just seems like the galaxy is the better overall phone (not that the HTC one is a bad phone)

I think the galaxy will have an overall better battery, camera, and software features that might actually be useful to me. I'm not talking about any of the gimmicks they discussed at the unveiling. I would turn all of those off! I mean things like the toggles in the notification area and the potentially better browser and being able to do split screen mode. I also think the galaxy looks slightly easier to handle one handed.

I don't like that HTC seems to go further out of their way to hide android (weird two button layout, no ICS style multitasking, blink feed).

But I am happy that other people are interested in the HTC one. It might not be the right phone for me but I really respect HTC's design and I hope this gets Samsung to stop being so lazy with their own designs.

I find this post agreeable. I really want to like the One, though.

I wonder if HTC could've made their screen bigger on the One without increasing the phone size. There's almost no bezel on the S4 while there's a noticeable amount of bezel on the One.

Aye, there is.

Or they could have used that bezel for a gesture based phone similar to Blackberry Z10.

I would have considered One for my next upgrade if it had a 5in screen. But at it stands, I eliminated it from my choices. I think a lot of buyers would find a 5in much more desirable than the One's aluminium built.

The more I see the HTC One, the less enamored I am by it. I think its beauty is beginning to wear off on me. It's almost... dare I say... ugly. Almost! I just get the sense it won't age well. I don't know why. Especially the front with so much bezel. I love the aggressiv speaker grills, but I don't know if that look will age well into the rest of 2013 and beyond. The thickness too is a slight bother. And, once again, the home button reconfiguration just throws the entire device off and is a real turn off.

And oddly, the S4 is looking more and more beautiful. It really just removed all the ugly parts of the S3, in my opinion (the S3's fake curvature on the side bands, the slight bloatedness of the side bezels, and even the faux-metal looks more metal-like on the S4 than the S3), and adds the beautiful refinements of the Note II (straighter bezels, etc.)

I recently handled a friend's Note II, too, and I have to say, it's a beast of a device. And I don't mean just size-wise. The thing does feel high-quality, even if it is plastic. It just felt beastly of a phone. Like I was holding something very powerful and capable of doing real work if I wanted to, but also very capable for play.

It's really made me hopeful that the S4 is the way to go between the One and the S4. Nothing is final until I handle both devices for myself, of course, but I'm becoming more optimistic about the S4.

Yeah, I could be totally wrong.

HTC One is aggressive and striking, but will it last?

Whereas S4 is bland and generic, but will it age better with time?

I get that sense, but I could be a million percent wrong.

I'm not so sure the thickness would bother me. The One is 9.3mm opposed to the S4 at 7.9mm. We are talking about a difference of 1.5 mm. That's about 10 sheets of paper. It is, at its widest, the same thickness of the iPhone 4. I didn't think that that was an overly bulky phone. Not to mention that as you get towards the edge of the phone the thickness goes down to 4mm.

Looks wise, I still prefer the One over the S4 but the overall package, I'm liking the S4 more. If Samsung had just gone with a metal band on the phone to give it that premium look/feel, they would've hit a grand slam instead of a homerun.

Bezel HTC One / S4 and screen size.

I played with the dummy models of the S4 and One in the store on Tuesday last and the bezel isn't that hugely different in person, and neither is the screen 5" to 4.7", the way some of you are posting you'd think it had a 1" strips down the sides of it, and one was saddled with a 3" screen.

The difference in bezel is negligible and some may prefer the little extra bezel when holding it to prefer accidental screen taps (though difference is so small realistically I doubt most folks would notice)

Its basically got same size bezel as the iPhone 4S, 5 etc..

As for screen size, if your eyes are so acute that .3" is such a mammoth size difference then fair enough, but to say or act like 4.7" is some way tiny compared to 5" is definitely 'drama queen'..... Its like saying the S3's screen has suddenly become too small and unusable because of the S4.

I had both devices in my hand and side by side the screen on the s4 is only a tiny modicum bigger, but I'm sure most folks if shown the two casually wouldn't notice the difference in size at all. The reality is compared to the iPhone and many other devices both are still relativly big phones.

Yes the Note 2's 5.5" is noticeably bigger and so it should be, but the S4 not so much. Both are fantastic screens in both devices. And yes in person the S3 and S4 when next to each other in the display it takes a real good look for a casual person to see the differences between the two.
