I am like you. The smartphone market has matured. We are not going to see any major changes. The difference between the S8 and S9 are minimal just like the difference between the 7 Plus and the 8 Plus. It is a total waste of money to upgrade yearly. At the same time phones are becoming expensive.

I now buy from Swappa. I got a 6s Plus 2.2 years ago. I paid 870$ for 128 gigs. Best iPhone I ever owned. Sold it for $360 and bought a mint 256 gig 8 Plus for $810 with AppleCare+ included. The 8 Plus only cost me $450. Two years from now I will sell the 8 Plus for the 11 Plus, but I will buy it used in mint condition. I have saved so much money that way.
Hmm, $870 for a iPhone 6+ sounds pretty high. If that's saving money then Apple is running some sort of Cult some of you belong too lol.. I'm guessing that was a typo?

Where did you read 6 Plus. I typed 6s Plus with the highest gig available at the time. I bought it in Early December 2015. You just misread.

Your right, 6s, my mistake....and even worse. $870 is ridiculous. That's more than the S9+ that is just coming out in a time that phones have escalated in price.Don't get me wrong, I think buying from Swappa is a good idea, that just seems high for a 6s.

Edit: just found this upon the 6S release. Something ain't right. Those must be down payments.

Apple will open preorders on September 12th. On a two-year contract, the iPhone 6S starts at $199 for the 16GB model, and moves up to $299 for 64GB and $399for 128GB. The iPhone 6S Plus 16GB model starts at $299, and costs $399for 64GB and $499 for 128GB.Sep 9, 2015

100% agree. My girlfriend and I will no longer buy brand new phones. Because many people are desperate to own the latest phone, there are millions of mint phones dumped on eBay or "recycled". These can be picked up for very little money. Some even refurbished with new casing.

The camera on the S9 is good but it's not ground breakingly better than the one on the S8.

It was a brand new iPhone in a rapper that someone got. They call them new retail on swappa. It is like buying a new iPhone. The battery was new with 100% life. The iPhone 6s Plus was released in September 2015. I got mine on December 5 2015. New from Apple it was priced at 1035$ with taxes included. I bought it for 870$ and it was still in the protective wrapper. Basically, a brand new iPhone that the a guy was selling. I saved a $165 on what is basically a new iPhone that wasnt even used. I saved even more on the 256 gig 8 Plus but that wasn’t a brand new iPhone. It had 30 battery cycles on it when I got it. But the two year warranty sold me on it.

I’ve been reading some horror stories about last years trade in program with Samsung. I remember the controversy at the time, but given that there’s still people taking the time to post coherent warnings again, I’m taking the stories and warnings seriously and holding off any trade-in plans until I see what happens this year. As gorgeous the S9+ is, I’m reluctant to get it at full price without some kind of special deal. Last year I got some things I wanted for $100, like a 256 GB high quality SD card and very good wireless headphones and the VR headset. This year there’s nothing. :(

I’m also interested in seeing what my friends here think when they get theirs.

This is why I decided against ordering from Samsung. Too many CS related complaints.

I stand corrected, that is a good savings but as far as Apples prices,,...holy crap they are high. Don't see why people pay that for a phone(I mean full price) especially when Android is better but that is my opinion. There's just no way id pay $1000 for a phone. If I wanted a iPhone I'd do what you did but to me, $870 is still high. But that's me, i have my limits. Is why I didn't get a S8 last year.

Tried the S9+. I thought the software felt fluid, but I have a feeling it is the typical Galaxy honeymoon state people can deal with. The aperture feature change in pro mode was cool. Dual speakers are welcomed edition, but they're not so great. Hardly noticed the difference in speed between my iPhone and the Galaxy when I tried to open a few apps. The screen is gorgeous. The FP sensor is much better located as well. RAM management seems nice on the S9+ as well. The phone's ergonomics feel slightly better than the S8/S8+. Software is very similar to the Android Nougat version. App shortcuts are present too.

Standard improvements, but not buying at full price. Gotta wait for some sort of promo, even if it is the daunting task of trading in a device with Samsung.

Lol, every time I come across a review that reminds me, I admit to being all butthurt we only get 64GB onboard storage GB (who p***** off DJ Koh?) and most of the rest of the world gets 128 GB. But I just checked my S8+ and it’s loaded up with pretty much all the apps I want, give or take a few new ones I just discovered and I’ve still got 42.9 GB left and that even with some images somehow stored on the device rather than my card. And I even have a lot of AT&T bloatware loaded on it. So I guess I don’t have a legitimate gripe there. Yet it irks me anyway. Just because it seems so random. It’s another annoying Asian phone manufacturer regional difference that makes customers make the Face my current dog avatar is sporting.

BD067DCE-B577-44C4-AFAB-4FAB9E01C0CC.jpeg

Anyway, I am definitely interested in this phone. The sample of audio in the review that @Sevanw made me fall in love all over again. That sounded great, like my S7 Edge recordings did. My S8+, for whatever reason did not sound as good.

And therein lies my problem. If I get a device that doesn’t meet my standards and I want to exchange, I have to deal with either a carrier (not likely as my husband refuses to set foot in the AT&T store for this one) or the Samsung customer service labyrinth that saw me unable to even get through to a live person due to the endles queues of angry customers bent out of shape over promotion and trade in fiascos, back when I wanted to send back my pink screened S8+.

Then not knowing how I will be treated with the trade in of my excellent S7 Edge, I have another reason to pause for reflection. I got my 8 Plus at around $630 thanks to trading in my beloved but increasingly wonky 7Plus that had gone out of warranty. I got the Pixel 2 with a pittance of a discount, but an free extended two year warranty and free cloud storage.

I like to get some sort of deal or discount on my new phones. My HTC 10 and IPhone SE were bought on huge discounts.

I want that trade in. But Samsung customer service is just such a bucket of ice cold water over the plans I had to get the S9+.

They stopping the deals? I know here in UK we get nothing.
Not here in KL :)

The promotion now sold out included Harman Karen Onyx Mini

However with the trade in promotion you get around $320 for a S7 edge

Unfortunately no demo models in the KLCC store today but all the cases were there

I see no one seem to mention free case included in the box which is a nice touch even if its just the clear back one

Shows the difference between 6GB of ram compared to you know..3.
We have been endlessly preached to by the iPhonebregade that iOS doesn't need lots of power/RAM to beat Android, so this is perfectly fair, unless something has changed?

I mean the benchmarks get posted here like Gospel but it seems they really are not translating over to real performance.

I don’t think it does need loads of ram but devices on android are now loaded with 6GB of ram shows how big a difference it makes.

In previous years top android flagships were using 4GB of ram and that showed it wasn’t enough so now devices like S8, S9 and note 8 having 6GB of ram shows the big difference it makes

I think this years iPhones will at least get 4GB of ram. Bigger model at least.

I believe software optimisation has got a lot more to do with it, as even the LG V30, Google Pixel XL and Pixel 2 XL rock 4GB RAM and have great performance.

Agreed, it has gotten a lot better in the past I would say 1-2 years. Same with speed tests as meaningless as they are for real world usage there’s basically nothing between the flagships these days. Even lower budget android phones perform well like the one plus for example.

I hope it does as it will just show us how much further Android keeps on getting better :D

The competition in Android needs to stop looking at iPhone and actually start better competing with each other.

Less notches, please and thank you - Android users

I think everyone looks at Apple because their success is so unprecedented even if they could lose global traction with phones within certain quarters.
