Great write up!Well I gave up and jumped a Grab (Uber equivalent) to the crappy depot to retrive the parcel, the Flip was worth more than the premises LOL
Well what a tactile device @GrumpyMom you really need to fondle one of these
Needless to say Mrs was not disappointed, not like she was jumping up and down but the fact she did not moan at me and only allowed me to set it up before snatching it back was a big enough praise for her in tech terms
Forget all those old metrics we read in reviews Re: speed, lag, switching, scrolling, opening apps and the like that's so last year and longer as any recent phone > $700 is no dog these days
Leaving the pixel peepers of photography behind as most snap-chat, FB, Instagram selfie officionardo will note, could not care less, its as snappy as any normal user needs
Forget my chipset is only 7nm thick and does 1100nits in sunlight etc, we have all chased that for the last 5 years
This is all about something that you pull out of your pockets or bag 200x a day and is fun and a joy to use
Sure its a bit skinny and tall yet still nice to hold, Why anyone thinks its natural to contort your digits for one handed use is beyond me and certainly seldom seen in military or hi-tech situations, so it must be a poor 2nd in real ergonomics IMO, but I guess some like it and may find it as a fault.
The flip when folded is even nicer, like some poker player flipping chips in their hands you want to find some clever way of turning it casually as if it was a spinner and not a $1500 phone
I'd buy it just as an exec toy or the ultimate bedside clock in AOD laptop mode
I do note vs my Fold which seem more natural way to open ala book style so it will take a short while for muscle memory to kick in for the opening sequence
I thought the horizontal crease would be more annoying than my Fold vertical, but its not.
The raised bezels are a little thinner than my fold and the dual power/finger print reader button is a useful optimization of space
Shes snatched it back so need to sneak some more play time tomorrow but here's a few different pics

Yes it would be nice to return to some other parts of old designs from yesteryear's@SteveJUAE the Flip is a thing of beauty! I’m glad your wife finally got her phone.
Yeah the specs are by no means dated. I hope they move more investment into this form factor.
My dream is to someday see a sort of rugged variant, and by rugged I really only mean a chassis that isn’t made of glass. I don’t need the wireless charging but I need maybe a bit more shatter resistance before I throw this into my purse. Sort of more old school flip phone shell.
I saw a Z-Flip at Best Buy but it was inside of a protective cube!😟. I totally understand the need for that but I wish I could hold and flip it closed just once!
The longing is real! 😆
That's beautiful!
Yes I think she is quite pleasedThat's beautiful!
I will check the Mrs phone but my first thoughts in the same order:Couple of weeks in now.
Still enjoying the Flip - but have noticed a few niggly things but they're more Samsung related than actual 'Flip' related.
First one - every single morning when I take my phone off charge I have to put my pass code in. Every. Damn. Morning.
This could be turned off? But I've scoured the menus and can't see anything.
I don't know why it does it, unless Samsung have something built in that requires the pass code if the phone hasn't been operated in over so many hours?
Notifications is the next one. If I get an internet notification (like from this site for instance), or from Outlook for an email, when I go into the actual app and interact with the email - it still doesn't clear from my notifications. I have to do it after I've already interacted with them. Gets annoying after so long.
The actual 'flip' itself is also sometimes problematic for notifications when I come to check my phone at work having not interacted with it for hours and hours. The outside display is pointless. I don't even bother. But when you have to keep opening to interact with a group chat or message it can be a bit annoying. I've resorted to just leaving it open when on the sofa next to me many times to avoid having to open close, open close, open close etc.
Outside display. The display is very bright (I have it on full brightness during the day), but I have to turn it down every night as otherwise it blinds me. I've turned it off when charging as it stays on for some reason (but can't stay on as an AoD for the rest of the time - weird), but it's so bright considering how small it is.
Another - still on Feb 1st security patch. Little disappointing seeing as we're closer to April than March now.
Typical Samsung!
Everyone who calls me says that they don't get a 'ring' when they call me. It's just silent until I answer. I called myself from my work phone and they're right! So strange. It's not a problem this, but just a strange one as my mum has ended the call twice thinking it wasn't ringing and there was a problem.
App drawer - really dislike how it's iPhone like and you have to swipe through pages. The Pixel approach of a drawer that you scroll down is much better. It's easier to get to any app that way. I have 5 pages, and if I need the WalP app to grab a new wallpaper, it's a bit annoying scrolling through for it.
I appreciate these are small niggles (and first world problems given the current situation we're all in), but it comes down to the user experience again.
Bear in mind I am only listing the bad things here. I could quite easily list all the amazing and good things about this phone as there's pleeeeenty, but this is just more of a hindsight take from my previous posts which were all generally very positive. Those positives still stand - but after a more lengthy period with it now these are the takes.
Just to follow upI will check the Mrs phone but my first thoughts in the same order:
I only need a PIN on restart and random PIN locks say 4x week, look at Strong Encryption that forces PIN Lock, but not after charging overnight unless latest UI is doing it
My wife does not really use the notification sceen much, but yes its not much better than the old flashing LED in daily use
Notifications even on my Fold is odd at times I have got in to the habit of pulling down the top menu, clearing notifications, then go to the apps, as some of them as you note do not clear if you go straight to app
Not really observed the display on when charging, will check
My FOLD still on Feb, it's often a little later than the S10's or S20's now, but had until this month always been in 1st 2 weeks
Will check the call ring tone tomorrow
App- draw there are options but cant find it unless it was on goodlock
Just to follow up
Mrs confirms little front screen stays on while charging so yes needs a fix or turn it over
I called her no issues, so maybe your carrier
Sorry I confused the issue re I was noting the close all/switching carousel where I have seen options, to get to the app tray from home screen hers Flip is just a swipe up or down and I have organised her apps to folders so she only needs one page
Thanks will have a look for herYou can turn the screen off when charging. It's in settings.
