The canteen staff at work today were all gob smacked over my Z Flip.

I bought some lunch on Tuesday and used my contactless to pay for it. I flipped open my phone to do it and the lady serving me was like "did you just open your phone??" I said yeah haha. New flip phone... She was amazed.

Anyway today I was getting a cup of tea (how British) and another member of staff was serving me who said "oh show me your phone I've heard all about it!" And then I had to show it to her too. :D

It's definitely a talking point!

It's also absolutely massive and unwieldy. There are pros and cons to both.

I understand that BUT the quality differences are so lopsided on the Ultra side. Discounted it is so so much better the value. The open box is why I wanted to try the Flip it will not get discounted other than that for quite awhile. Same for the Fold. I wouldn't go near the Flip for its current full price, not with those specs.

Anything is better value when it's discounted though. I mean you could say that about anything.

In the UK, Samsung phones rarely get a discount until the next one rolls around, and I for one would rather fork out for innovation than to chase a spec sheet because "on paper" it's better value. I think if the Ultra was producing photos that absolutely blew away what the Flip is capable of then I'd agree, but that absolutely isn't the case so I know where I'm glad I used my money. :)

??? Who is chasing? I rather have the 865 processor, the GPU, the display and resolution for starters. The Ultra will be $250 off in no time, hasn't taken long with Samsung phones in the past. Probably the best value of all is the Plus.

I'm not talking about you specifically. I'm talking in general terms.
I've done it in the past. A new phone comes out and I think I need it because it does everything ever so slightly better, when really it's a very small (often unnoticeable) upgrade.

I have no remorse for paying full price for my flip. I love it.

Yes 4 months after everyone else LOL

I rather as a tech enthusiast to have it on release and enjoy being current from day one and with my bundled freebies that are often worth more than later discounts

I also get a full 12 months before the next iteration not some shortened period that saves me nothing

Value means different things to different people

I place high value on the enjoyment and use of folding phones

The Fold is great value if it saves you a kindle and a mini tablet for example

Latest spec's are not the only consideration for many people

The Ultra was more than $250 off at preorder if you were willing to do a little legwork or if you already had an S10. I bought one for less than $400 and Samsung gave me $600 towards the Ultra for it.

More Z Flip recognition from strangers today. I've never known this with any phone I've ever owned, but it most definitely has people talking.

I went into Apple as my sister bought a new 11 Pro. As she was paying she asked me to grab her a leather case so I went to the 'case wall' and as I approached my Flip vibrated in my pocket. I took it out but didn't even open it as I seen from the front screen it was actually a MacRumors notification (I push them via Samsung Browser).

My phone must have been out for all of 5 seconds and the Apple employee stood by the cases went "was that a Zee Flip?". He was not British hence his "Zee" and not "Zed" :D.

I said, yes it is. He was like how is it. Can I see it. Can I hold it. I ended up chatting with him a little until my sister came over, saw he was holding it and went "ooo should you be doing that in here, rivalry an all that" haha.

Another cool Z Flip moment.

And some pics from our quick trip.

you're good at selling this phone lol, you make me want one.

I can't own one, I work with etching sand, it''ll never end well.

I think your photos look amazing too.

I swear I'm not on commission haha. I just really like the phone and do like sharing my thoughts on it.
Over two weeks in so if the honey moon phase was going to start slipping, it surely would have done by now!

But as I've maintained, it isn't the actual flip that is the draw, it's just using it day to day. It's a very solid phone all round. The fact it flips just adds to that.

Etching sand and the Flip would definitely NOT end well!

I didn’t cause I wasn’t really thinking of getting it. Trust me I get good deals on what I want regardless, been spinning and flipping phones for a long time. Anyways I am out of this thread as the flip ain’t worth it to me knowing I wouldn’t be happy with it in the long run. It is cool but way way too many concessions for me versus the others, especially the Plus at a lesser price. I tried the Flip, glad I did but sayonara.

One thing that is quite annoying is that Samsung keeping the Single take feature only on the S20, despite announcing the Z flip at the same time. Wonder if that's an SD865/exynos 990 exclusive? If that's the case, what features do these new chipset have that made the feature completely un-implementable on the last year's flagship chipsets?

Galaxy Z Flip has the single take feature.

Ah, it came with the first update for the Z Flip. No wonder the demo retail units don't have it.
Also, this means the feature is mostly software limited, not hardware limited as the SD855 can do it. Thus it makes no sense if Samsung doesn't bring it to the S10 series (or current mid-rangers or S9 or older).

Could just me store demo software, my Flip has had single take since launch. But yes, there is no reason they can't bring it to older devices, and they may when they get updated to One UI 2.1.

It makes no sense to put a negative spin on something Samsung has not even had chance to implement

Lets wait and see if they make this feature backwards compatible or maybe the + in the SD855+ counts for something :)

Sorry what? Where is the negative spin? Have you read all my comments how I actually think the Z Flip is great?

And wait? Wait for what? The fact that the feature is already available for the Z Flip means the software is done. The Z Flip is basically the S10 in new form factor. No reason for the S10 to not get it.

It's not me reading your reply's it you reading your replies :)

You were being negative before there is even chance to make something backwardly compatible, nothing to do with the flip other than it is + processor which may of helped and why it has the feature already

If you can't see the negativity, sorry I can't help you
