Lol weren't you saying that it was a pointless device for you?! :D
My prediction.....he will jump into the Android waters....find it not to his liking and be back to his iPhone in a week. We have seen this movie a couple of time already lol ;)

Me?! Nooooooo......You must have mistaken me for someone else. 😜

Yeah, guilty as charged but to be honest, this device loses out on most functional comparisons. For pure functionality, you get far more bang for the buck with just about every other Samsung Galaxy flagship from the last two years but as many have pointed out, you own this device because you want something different and unique. The Ultra doesn’t offer me really anything that different from my 11 Pro Max (save for the zoom). This is a completely different type of device.

To be clear, I still don’t think anyone should buy this phone, myself included. But it’s shiny and completely different so, of course we want to get one.

Oh, I never left the Android waters...have my Pixel 3XL sitting on the charger right next to me. I almost always have an Android phone as a secondary. But you’re right, Android isn’t my primary daily driver and this won’t be either. Making no illusions about that. My reasons for going iPhone really comes down to OS preference and I know that’s not changing with whatever Android phone I use. But this looks a lot more fun to use than my Pixel so, what the hell.

And no better way to offer a true critical review than with actual hands-on use. I’ll give my impressions purely based on the hardware since like I said, my issues with going Android daily have almost exclusively to do with the OS experience so no need to beat that dead horse anymore.

I've loaded up the Sammy site twice already today... Still available but the near 3 week +/- wait to tie up 1500 bucks makes it easier to not impulse buy this thing...

Still looks like a nice device though.

He isn't wrong, I managed to pick up a black unlocked version last night, only been able to play with it for a few hours so far, but I am extremely impressed. Haven't enjoyed a new phone like this in quite a long time.
In the end that is what it is all about. The end user experience! Specs don't matter as much as the user experience! Public opinion doesn't matter either....

It's all about the joy of actually using the phone!
So glad everyone enjoying the Flip!

I must say I'm surprised by the way the tech media and followers are loving this device, it's obvious Samsung has got the fundamentals of a folding device, well honed.

There are people saying this isn't the future and similar things, I can't see how it can't be the future, the solution looking for a problem team just can't see past that nosebag.

I'm in when we have devices like Westworld, maybe two or three more years, and I expect these devices to be very expensive, I'll still be in.

and this :)

Now bring on the Neo the Duo and a Fold V2 a cool Note20 and 2020 is looking interesting

For those that have multiple devices and/or rotate regularly it's been almost a bit dull just chasing spec's, this adds a nice new dimension to enjoy :)

I've received my Mirror Pink Flip which I've been using since Wednesday.

This one is little tighter in the flip, which I'm guessing is a good thing.

I ordered a skin from a UK company, never used a skin before but thought the purple shiny rails would look good with a matte skin.

Damn, there was I only going to buy the Flip for my wife, but that skin tempts me

The black was dull the pink great for the Mrs and no way was I getting the designer one for $2480 and no one seen the gold yet

I fancy a second phone only because I need multiple sims and E sims are a pain when out of country of the E-Sim provider

At least I can order the skin, still no pre-order on Flips here in KL

Couple of further thoughts on the flip now I've used it for a week.

Novelty not worn off. And I kind of don't think it will. This isn't a gimmick to me, it's so cool that it folds down and fits into a pocket. I love that the screen is always protected when not in use (obviously not if in a pocket with coins, dirt etc), but generally the fold closed shut is protective.

I picked up my Pixel 4 before and found it odd pressing the lock button to turn off the screen. I'm so used to just closing the flip now...

It is also a conversation starter. I was in the petrol station the other day and stood in a queue. My phone went off with a text so I opened it and replied. The guy behind me tapped me on the shoulder and asked "how are you finding that?!" I was a bit taken back ha. I had to pay then so didn't get much chance to talk to him about it but was cool that it gets people talking!

I have found using the phone just generally really nice. I'm so impressed with the build quality and feel of the phone. I just think they've got the dimensions, weight and size spot on.

I won't go over the things I've already mentioned as downsides (outside screen etc), all I will say on that is I wish it was "always on". Other Androids have this as standard and I feel like Samsung missed a trick not allowing the outside screen to always display the time. I actually think that would make the flips outside screen bearable, as it least it would have a function. Software update perhaps?

Camera continues to be just ok. Nothing special. But it still does capture decent enough images. In lower light it is pretty good even outside of night mode...

Battery is impressive enough for me. There's no idle drain like is seen on my Pixel. It easily gets me through a day which is all I want.

The screen is not as responsive for me as a normal 'glass' screen. It's only noticeable when I am using an app that requires a double tap input - sometimes it doesn't register. Single taps and swipes are absolutely fine. Nothing major, but part of me thinks this could be one limitation to this type of screen.

In terms of One UI, I love that it's now closer to stock in terms of navigation, than ever. The swipe gestures are the same as stock but I have had to turn them off on my Flip. The raised 'bezel' does make it difficult to swipe back from either side. What is good, is that Samsung have given options within settings to increase the sensitivity of the back swipes which is great to see. But I just found it to be much easier to go back to the traditional 3-button layout on this phone, which I've been happier with since.

Biometrics could be better. The facial recognition is probably one of the worst I've used and never works properly at all. I've taken to just using my fingerprint which I don't mind doing at all. The Flip has the same option as the Pixel whereby it will let you bypass the lock screen and unlock to where you last were. Good if it worked consistently. :D.

I don't really have too much more to add. The phone is amazing. It's one of my favourite ever phone designs and if Samsung have managed to do this well on their first (technically second) fold / flip, then I can't wait to see where they take it next.

If anyone has any questions or things they want to know / test, just let me know and I'll do my best.
