I’m actually contemplating trading my Note 10+ in for this. Though I would miss the S Pen. So I might sacrifice my Pixel 3XL instead.

I love my Note’s big screen. But it’s such a long phone I find I’m only using it at home because I can’t fit it easily with my iPhone in my phone pockets in my purse.

Now I know the screen on this Flip isn’t as good, not even close, to the one on my Note. But it’s good enough and it’s offering an entirely different experience that might be fun to try out.

Most of the specs are at least as good as what I’ve already got. They’re not an upgrade. It’s more of a lateral move into a new form factor, that is itself the novelty.

I really ended up not using my Note cameras that much anyway. Not because they are not good. But I prefer to work with the cameras on my iPhone because that phone is small and always with me.

The best cameras will be on the S20 Ultra and I know already it will be wasted on me, because I just can’t easily tote a phone that big. Unless maybe I go back to carrying just one phone. And I don’t want to do that. I’d only get a phone that big if it’s another Note.

For dual phones I’ve been carrying my 11 Pro and my Pixel 2. Note was staying home and used on WiFi. I did recently put my Sim back into my Note because I wanted to take it for use on a road trip. I haven’t bothered to take it back out and I really regret that when I want to leave the house with 2 phones but can’t.

Yeah I really use two phones. I could explain it but it’s too wordy a reason. Boring.

Edited to add GrumpyDad gave his blessings to go for it. He knows it’s kind of hopeless to keep me from purple shiny things. And it gets him off the hook thinking of a Valentines present. Lol!
Exactly a new fun experience that may suit your usages :)

See what one gives the best value trade in but I do miss my SPen

Yeah it’s probably going to be fun. I’m a bit nervous about breaking it, though.

IF I actually go through with this. I’ve got a cold and my head is fuzzy.

I’m happy I have a late pickup from school today due to the after school clubs. I’ll get to see the whole Unpacked event live!

Well at the moment I have a powder blue S20 on reserve. Reservation doesn’t mean much. I just wanted it reserved. They’d give me $300 for my Pixel 3XL. Even Google only will give me $200 for that phone now.

So I’ll be getting a more portable phone one way or the other.

I can’t seem to reserve or preorder the Z Flip at all yet. So I can’t see what deals I could possibly get.

These are cool and all but I hope the industry didn’t completely swing in this direction. I really have very little interest in a foldable phone.

literally my thoughts. so i can try one and then get rid of it following year if its too much a hassle!

Is it normally best to wait a month before purchasing these phones (when deals pop up)? Although i've seen free Galaxy Buds+ thrown in, so it may be better to jump in early..

The Z Flip may be different, in that it's price may hold for much longer.

There's no danger in this at all.

Foldables will be flimsy for years yet, so they're not going to replace a product that's been striving for ultimate dust/water proofing, unless they somehow overtake the 'slabs' in every department.

Ordering this phone early is probably not the best idea unless they give some special incentive on trade in values.

I need reviewers to pocket test it. I regularly launder my jeans AND vacuum out the pockets. And still a lot of gunk sticks to the place where my tempered glass screen protectors adheres to the real display.

I don’t know if Samsung really has made the Z Flip hinge pocket lint proof. I hope they have. But it’s such an expensive unknown.

You watched Lisa Grade 4 month follow up on the Fold ?and she had more lint and dust on her Fold with no issues

The Z-Flip goes one better over the Fold with carbon brushes that actively sweep dust away from the hinge mechanism

You know the lure of that purple is too strong :)

PS If you get the $235 gift voucher makes a nice valentines pressie for him in doors :D

Lol you make it all so tempting. So far I’ve got a pink S20 and a blue S20 reserved (under two different email addresses). I have to go and check and see what Samsung has put up for the Z Flip.

I just need to get my second phone shrunk back down from Note 10+ behemoth proportions to something close to s10+ size so I can more easily carry 2 phones again. I’m going to hang onto my Note, though.

Yes but they are not Purple :)

Nice to keep the Note

I can't recall the SiFi film but I remember a scene where a receptionist E painted her nails with a wand like the S-Pen maybe this will come to the Z-Flip LOL

Hey y’all, here’s my thinking as it pertains to the Z Flip. 8% more screen area vertically over the S20. 1% less screen area for 16:9 content. No 120 Hz display and only 425 PPI. S20 has 563 PPI at 60Hz and 422 PPI at 120Hz. Never mind an older SoC and less ram. Unfolded it’s not a useful display, much less when it’s folded and super thick in my pocket. I’m not sure I understand this product and especially not priced $380 more than the S20. Am I missing something?

Well in my region (USA) tomorrow is the day the Z Flip goes on order. I’ve still got the blessings to go for it but it’s a huge expense, even with a trade and I would probably have to trade my Note to get it down to less painful cost. And that’s only if Samsung allows the same $700 trade in value on the Flip that it does for the S20’s. I love my Note! I don’t want to do that so...

I don’t think I’ll be going for it.

With a bad cold, it’s hard to think straight. I’m dizzy and it’s almost as bad as being drunk in terms of getting clarity. 🥵

But I think what makes most sense for me is to take a phone that is now larger than I want to carry around as a second phone and has also lost most of its trade in value, my Pixel 3XL, and take Samsung’s more generous $300 offer on it and convert it into a good trade on smaller phone that I will use and will hold its value better. That would be the S20.

So mostly, the problem for me is not the phone itself or the specs. It’s the high cost and what I’d have to trade to make it less uncomfortable to buy.

I like the design. I’m fairly confident now it won’t fall apart prematurely. I’m fine with the specs, though I wonder about the battery life.

Very interesting. When I went to reserve an S20, Samsung offered $300 for my Pixel 3XL and $700 for my Note 10+

When I went to see what deals they offer on the Flip it was $175 for my Pixel 3XL and only $440 for my Note 10+

Wow, what a difference. The lowest I could get this phone down to is $940. You get concierge service and a one time low cost screen repair for $119, if I remember correctly.

That $175 isn't horrible for my 3XL. Google themselves are only offering $200 on it. $440 for my Note 10 is a bit of a kicker, though. It's not that old. That may be what I'll get offered on it when I trade it for the next Note. Who knows.

Yes, for those hard of visual understanding :)

Please see below image of a representative sample of the billions of smart phones out there, see if you can spot the flip LOL

Being different and/or exclusive often costs more
