I’m using the Fold and iPad. I don’t fall victim to the Fold can replace the tablet group because I simply enjoy having an iPad.

So, I choose both Android/Galaxy and Apple ecosystem… I don’t think it should be an either/or situation. I like the Fold because it’s catered to my preferences (multitasking & stylus support) and the iPhone lacks those features. Don’t get me wrong, the iPhone is incredible… but I prefer the Fold.

And when it comes down to the iPad, I believe its the best tablet experience in the market and I like there is an option for cellular support.

Agreed

Fold can never replace my iPad but it can be my iPad mini type replacement on the go while also being a phone when needed. The fact I can pop the fold in my pocket and go to my car or the gym and open it up to watch content is clutch.

Same for when I go away for weekends it’s portable enough to be no hassle carrying around with me.

Multitasking is great on the fold and 120hz which is a must for me which the mini bothered me with 60hz

Plus I’ve got my galaxy buds pro 2 to pick up tomorrow so I can finally take it to the gym

Did you replace the iPad mini with the Fold? Because that is what I'd be looking to do, the iPad mini is basically just used for reading, some couch surfing sometimes and some YouTube when it isn't convenient to use my laptop.

Also how does the AirPods Pro work with the Fold? Good enough to use?

Yeah I got rid of my iPad mini 6 for the fold and it’s replaced my minis usage. Smoother display better display and far superior multitasking.

Can’t say I’ve used air pods with android devices. Works better if you use android headphones

Airpods work fine on the fold. Only thing you miss is the ability to see battery levels and adjust settings for them. There are 3rd party apps that can help with this but they are buggy in my experience.

Yeah I guess, except for support for iMessage and such things between the phone and tablet. For me the only tablet I use is my iPad Mini and to replace that would be the entire idea of the Fold, have my mini tablet with me at all times. And as I said with a foldable you will have to compromise there, the screen is less good for watching content due to it having to be smaller and a different aspect ratio.

Don't get me wrong it makes sense that you have to build the device like that but in the end it means I have to choose if I want the cool screen I can fold and put in my pocket or use multiple devices that are better for the sole task they were made for. I think the foldables are devices that sits right in the middle between two device categories and if you try to replace them both there are compromises, but being able to replace them both is the allure for me.
For my usage a tablet is easily replaced by my Fold 4

I have tried many times to find a use for tablets and failed.

I would rather have another surface 2 in 1 where I can get a larger screen but the full functionality of a laptop OS should i wish and run MacOS and Android apps naively etc within Windows 11

I just cant justify a tablet for couch surfing and because i like swiping with my digits on oversize icons, but each to their own :)

Yes, but to use a car analogy if you own a sports car you are statistically more likely to have a crash and your insurance premium reflects this

The difference with Samsung is that extra insurance is free for most or at least subsidized

So yes more risk but you are covered :)
Only for the first year. Then what? Fork our for insurance or get rid?

I noticed a new update… not sure if attributed to a standalone update to the Samsung Keyboard or OneUI 5.1, but this new S-Pen tool bar shows up when using it.

On Saturday I was walking past the local Apple Store and I caved in and bought an iPhone 14 Pro Max. The this point I had been switching between my iPhone 13 Pro and Fold 4. I still have an S22 Ultra too. I tried to use the 14PM all week at work but I just can't fall in love with it. I'm taking it back tomorrow. It's too big to hold and offers no real advantage over the 13 Pro. Only people who have used the Fold will understand but it just fits better in you hand and pocket. The bigger screen is there when you need it. For most task while on the go like weather, messages etc I actually prefer the smaller front screen which I can use with my thumb.

Anyway. I've decided to ditch the Apple Watch and pull out my trusty Omega Speedmaster - the Apple Watch was the main thing drawing me back to the iPhone.

Looking forward to the Fold 5 now.

How many people need to multitask like that though?
I have never done it on any smartphone and even on my Fold 4 I never have more than one app open at a time. I just don't need to.
Its all about preferences, options and versatility to suit personal choice and not being stinted like some OS's or devices

The capability is in your hands to do with as you choose :)

I have a 14PM but I'm thinking about getting an Android phone on the side. I was looking at the S23 Ultra but I went to Best Buy today and they have the Z Fold 4 for $350 off. Now I'm wondering is the Z Fold 4 a better value now at $1449 vs the S23 Ultra at $1199. What opinions do y'all have?

Obviously the S23 has the latest spec's and cameras etc however it is just another slab like your 14PM and similarities etc your more inclined to feel less compelled to pick it up over your 14PM

The Fold 4 is a different user case and the real estate alone is enough for you to enjoy a different experience over your 14PM

Cameras aside the Z Fold 4 still has great specs and was top of the line 6 months ago. You'll find more to feel wowed by.

Is there anything like slide over for the Fold or One UI in general? I use it a lot on my iPad Mini and larger iPads, all my messaging apps and home assistant live there for easy access. Tried a Tab S8+ out but couldn’t find any way to get some thing as fluid to do those things.

Can it actually run chat apps in the edge panel? So you can read the messages there? From what I’ve been able to test it doesn’t do that.
Ah, no.
You can read messages in the notification panel though and reply to them from there.

You can always use the Pop-Up Window feature and access the app bubbles like this.

Yeah I’ve tried that but think it’s quite clunky and feels so unpolished to always need the bubbles on the screen to access them quickly. I use quick access to certain apps like that a lot during my tablet use so whatever I use need to be a smooth experience.

Clunky and unpolished? To each their own. I don't view it that way, I find it useful and haven't had any issues with it that made it seem unpolished.

But quick access? What exactly is that?

If I am doing something I don’t want to have bubbles on the screen at all times but also be able to have the conversations or change stuff in home assistant. So I need something like slide over where you can get them on your screen quickly and then quickly make them disappear. I couldn’t find a way to hide the bubbles in one motion and then quickly get them all back.

With quick access I meant I need access to them quickly.

I recently went overseas with a couple of my course mates and one of them is using a galaxy fold phone (I think is first gen).

Credit where credit is due, it is very handy for taking group selfies with the rear camera (because you can use the outside display to preview your photos before taking them). This is in conjunction with the ability to trigger the camera with a palm gesture, resulting in noticeably better-looking selfies than one would otherwise expect.

That said, the crease in the middle is very noticeable by now, which is a shame because the phone is extremely handy for viewing photos and documents when opened in tablet mode (basically spoils the whole experience).

Otherwise, it's pretty much what I expected (quite thick and heavy compared to a conventional smartphone).

Well, as @sunking101 suggested use Edge Panel. I understand you want things to function exactly like the iPad with SlideOver. But sometimes it doesn't work like that and as I recall SlideOver detracts viewing from the main app.

Edge Panel is probably your best bet for situation like these... you can put whatever conversational app in the Edge Panel. Invoke the edge panel to use the conversational app whenever and add it as a SplitScreen window. Heck, you can even make app pairs from the Edge Panel.
