Think you need to look a little more closely how these non Samsung folderables achieved some things by like missing IP ratings on water resistance etc etc or how video aspect ratios are more compromised with wider front screens

Let alone availability, support and 0 Google services

Maybe Samsung should bring in a Fold 5 Pro/Max line for those that want the best of the best and realise if you want it all it comes at a price
I'm aware of the draw backs but point is there is space to fit these better hardware specs in. It's why I don't think it will ever replace slab phones due to what's needed to be added to offer same hardware the cost will simply be too high.

One area which is hardware spec wise is front display all these companies have made it to make it look like a normal slab device. My only issue with Z fold is the front display is still frustrating to use. For my usage it's not a big deal as I use mine as a small tablet but I couldn't use it as my only device for this reason

Sorry not true as we can seen on an IPhone slab it still does not have a periscope zoom lens as an example on the best selling expensive phone

There are many user types, personally I hardly use the front screen, even if it was wider I doubt I would use it more.

One handed operation I have never used a phone in this manner and again if you look at many phones the UI is often not configured this way again especially Iphone with its menu/back at top left corner on large slabs is polar to the bottom menu

The S23 is probably one of the best large slabs that tried to cover all user types the best with the most hardware specs

However

We learned since the late 50's that personal items and accessories carried around are simply more convenient if folded in theory the largest slabs should never existed had the technology been available that the Fold/Flip and others now offer and can only get better

Let’s face it iPhone are the only ones who don’t have a periscope lens. That will end this year though but there are many factors why they don’t until this year. Supply is one and of course Apple just taking their time. Like they always do.

it might be JULY

I’d go on the spot and state this is 100% in response to Google coming out with their foldable phone. With Samsung releasing their foldables early… means OneUI 5.1.1 will be coming out shortly as well.

I’m curious... are you going for the Pixel Fold or Galaxy Fold?

i am thinking galaxy fold, wallet permitting
unless Google comes out with something really out of the ordinary
i am leaning towards Samsung because i am seeing a well refinded fold in its 5 iteration this year

Well, beauty is all subjective. But judging by the comments on the Pixel Fold... bezels are the bulk of the conversation.

And those bezels remind of the Pixel 4... back in 2019, Android users were criticizing Google back then... since most Android smartphones went with the hole punch design.

Galaxy Z Fold 5 could beat Google Pixel Fold in a big way

Don't get me wrong... weight should be a factor, but I don't think it's a huge deal in the way they are explaining. And if I'm not mistaken, the Pixel Fold is getting a larger battery than the Fold 5... perhaps that's why it weighs more.

Large bezels would be a turn off. It's one of the reason the Surface Duo 2 looks disgusting to me.
I don't think Pixel Fold compare at all to those unacceptable bezels on the Surface Duo 2.

Here's your first look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

Yeah, I came across those images already. It's unfortunate that it looks the same as the last two generation... not sure how Samsung will market it to Fold 3 and 4 users. But then again... underneath the hood might be the main draw whereas battery life will motivate users to upgrade.

I don't think that's an issue honestly. The majority of Fold 3 & 4 users were never going to upgrade. The issue at hand is how do you get consumers to purchase their first foldable? The biggest problem remains price. $1,800 is simply too much for most consumers to justify. No matter what it offers.

The Fold 5 appears to be a minor update. The new hinge technology address a major previous issue (the exposed gap when closed). But physically this device is extremely similar to the 4.

I would say there are plenty of Fold owners that are use to the sticker price and will upgrade the same as there are many $1400+ IPhone PM that will upgrade for very minor incremental advances and upgrades

Of course there are always the sub group of potential new Fold owners where by swapping 2 devices (phone and tablet) to just a Fold gives excellent value

Well, as far I know... consumers who never purchased a Fold is more concerned with the crease (along with durability). Watching various videos about the Fold, reviewers normally focus on how noticeable the crease is. And supposedly, Samsung is focusing on that aspect this time around.

And price is always going to be a factor in regards to a device like this... unless Samsung makes an affordable option, but in most cases users want the premium device.

Minor update in terms of design, but as I stated... internally is where Fold 4 users might notice the difference. You seem to dismiss the idea battery life isn't a motivated factor, but judging from the amount of people that post screenshots of their Screen on Time...that is a key factor.

Snap Gen 2 will be a nice upgrade ..along with lighter phone and no noticable hinge gap ...and let's see them trade in incentives
