It's rare but I don't see myself upgrading this fold 4. This is on an annual upgrade but isn't up to trade in until December but I can't see anything in fold 5 that looks impressive. Chip and less of a crease with better hinge but that's it.

Still going to enjoy the comments for those who will buy fold 5. Could see myself keeping this for a few years which is rare for me.
The Fold 6 will be the one to buy… at least that’s my guess.

I think smartphones across the board are on iterative development cycle… consumers won’t see any significant changes to warrant an upgrade annually unless battery performance is a key factor.

What is available to me is offered to all current and future post-paid AT&T customers. AT&T has a popular TV campaign out now about how the best deal are available to new and existing customers.

I don't get your point of bolding what you did. To obtain the full credits received you need to stay on their plan for 36 months. I've stated that already in a previous post. With T-MO it is 24 months.

Your original point about how carriers are forcing you into higher priced plans to offer you this discount is absolutely false with respect to post-paid Verizon, AT&T, and T-MO customers. Hence why going through Samsung is not clearly the superior option for everyone. For many American post-paid customers it makes much more sense financially to take advantage of a carrier trade-in deal.
Your simply not getting it, you used the wording "You" not "I" which means us and other that read it and only latterly did you advise you were an existing customer, which I noted "if you say so" as we were originally talking generally and not specifically to whatever package you may or may not have

So the statements are not false in their original and intended context, only you made it singular and personal to your circumstances etc which also may not apply to other existing customers of AT&T as noted in the full terms

FYI The bolding etc on AT&T T&C's is a direct C&P from AT&T site no amendments by me

The terms apply to everyone. New and existing customers. Your original point remains untrue. The trade-in offers by carriers is a superior deal for most people versus buying directly via Samsung. I have clearly stated my reasons why that is. You are simply wrong on this one.

It's quite clear that your idea of most people and superior differ greatly to the norms IMO as it includes extended long term lock-ins and possibly higher tier packages that many may not need etc

The deal is not a win win for all potential takers and many may do better with real cash savings via Samsung and selecting a more suited data package even with At&T, without all the caveats and lock-in etc

This has always been my point and remains true but thanks for pointing out it can work better for some existing customers

I hope this closes this discussion now before we bore others to death :)

I don’t see how a contract matters if you don’t plan on leaving your carrier or you don’t need an unlocked device with respect to T-MO and AT&T. Verizon unlocks automatically after 60 days.

You still continue to dismiss that carrier trade-in’s are often better deals than anything Samsung will offer. You insist that you will be forced to accept higher tier plans when taking advantage of these plans and that simply is not true. Look at the 5G plans that these carriers require to join for these deals. They all offer good plans that aren’t expensive. And yes I did look into it recently.

I agree that we should drop this for the sake of the thread. But your original point is still a complete mistake. You are not forced into high priced plans. Carrier lock-in is not an issue for many. Cheers.

Samsung now developing the 5th iteration of their foldables, which just keep on getting better each year (and the Oppo Find N), yet zilch showing from Apple thus far.

Apple fans will say they don’t need a foldable phone.

Others will say they are perfecting one before releasing it.

Some of us are just happy to see these phone options.

The good, the bad, and the ugly

I've seen this article posted in the Fold reddit forum... didn't really check it out, only looked at the comments.

And it's a first generation foldable under Google... I don't see a reason to criticize them heavy for it, look at the original Fold lol. I think the main issue is they shouldn't have priced it at $1800...

therefore more reasons for one to lean towards the incoming Samsung Fold
1. Cost
2. Design (thick raised bezels and "ugly crease")

My reasoning behind criticism of the cost is to push Samsung to lower the price of their foldable... and I'm rooting for the Pixel Fold, if it outsells the Galaxy Fold would only result in a better product from Samsung.

And the original Fold launched at $1980.. with a odd looking cover display and a crazy looking notch for the inner display.

there is no reason to start feeling pity for any generation product that is trying to play catchup

even when Apple decides to join the race there is no reason for them to come up with an undercooked device

Good point. I'm just saying for a 1st generation product.. it could of been much worst lol. Heck, the original Fold had a botched launched and had to go back to the drawing board.

I think the rumor that they've had this going since 2020 might be one of the reasons why is looking better for a first gen.. also I was listening to a few comments on some first comments videos about some possible pixel features that they weren't able to speak about but who knows
