I am from the opposite end.

I never opened my wallet to all the Fold generations that have come up so far.

So this year actually now looks refined and promising to finally give it a try without regret or reservation.

I think the crease will still exist, but it won't be as visible as it was before. When using the Fold and getting accustomed to the device it becomes a non-issue similar to when the notch was introduced back with the iPhone X.

There were so many articles about that notch as if it was the worst thing ever!
This latest leak has actually watered down all my excitement I must admit.

Why? Because of the chance the crease will still exist? The new water-drop hinge design helps improve on the screen durability not to out-right eliminate the crease.

The current hinge design puts so much stress on the inner-display which causes the screen protector to loosen up… there’s so many post in the reddit thread regarding this.

Yes the crease.

If the Fold 5 comes still with a significant crease then there is really not much improvement so it will be a pass for me.

Fair enough.

But I’m curious have you ever tried out the Fold? Because it was one instance where a user was against the crease… even criticized Samsung heavily for it. But when they decided to give it a try… realized it wasn’t as bad as the public claimed it to be.

I have not tried it in person.
This year "was" going to be my first try and first purchase.

I've never been the type of person to let public dissuade me from purchasing a device unless it's overwhelming negativity surrounding that device.

I can understand you have certain expectation when it comes to a device this expensive. But I rather try a device out and go from there... especially when opinions are mixed.

Getting a good fit
Yeah, finding a good case is tough… I started off going with a sleeve with the Fold 2. But now I’ve gone without any protection and haven’t had any major issues.

The problem I find when adding protection… is that it adds bulk to an already bulky device.

IP58

The number 5, in this case, indicates that testing revealed an object is dust-protected. However, this doesn’t mean it is dust-tight though – it offers some protection against dust but must not be held in conditions where dust will inhibit its functions. As mentioned above,8 indicated good waterproofing functionality for short amounts of time.

Sounds like it's still not enough protection for the beach to be fully confident. But still that's a big advantage over the GPF.

I think you will find the 2 shells are dust tight and its only the hinge bringing down the overall rating to IP58 and not IP68

But given the 5 stands for:

"Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the safe operation of the equipment."

So unless your highly risk adverse probably even the water resistance would be insufficient LOL

It’s more than enough for the beach, it’s not like your going to be using the phone as a spade and filling your bucket! Is it?

I find it impossible for some sand to not get on my smartphone no matter how much I baby it. I doubt I'll ever bring a foldable to the beach until they eventually become IP68 rated one day.

Whenever I go to the beach, 90% of the time i leave them in the car, it's always a worry not only about the sand, but then if you go in the water you either have to leave it unattended on the beach (hidden away in a shoe or under a towel) or take it into the water with you and risk losing it. Plus salt water isn't good for these phones.

Only time I bring it with me is either i don't plan on going into the water or because i want some nice shots.
