So you have had first hand experience of the Galaxy S6 ?

What makes you think if a devices have similar capabilities that that Galaxy S6 is anything harder to use for children ? Indeed Samsung have a proper Kids Mode (unlike Apple) that makes the phone significantly more safer & simpler to use for young children.

Samsung's Touchwiz has no more a learning curve than iOS does.

Samsung have been competing with Apple for years.

TouchWiz has issues, but it is still Android at its core which is vastly more flexible than iOS.

Other than the software bloat they add to Android, I don't see much of an issue. For the most part, I've found performance between the Galaxy range and iPhones roughly the same.

TouchWiz and Android is not hard to use at all. All they need is a dummy proof backup equivalent or better than iOS.

One of the reasons children can use iOS so easily is the homescreens is nothing but an app drawer. Unfortunately, that's probably why Apple is so hard headed about allowing homescreen widgets.

In the contacts on my Note 4, many apps are semi integrated. It's shows under contacts "connnected via" and has a list of apps. For example: My mother right now is connected to Waze, Google, Skype, and Whatsapp. I can tap any one of those apps under her contact and interact.

Yes by design, Apple makes it's exclusive features very easy to find and use. But anything outside the bubble would be somewhat difficult for a child that can't read yet. Even difficult for an adult that thinks outside of iOS restrictions.

Since I've been a touch app developer for years, my daughter grew up with touch devices all over the house.

When she was two years old, she got her own ruggedized resistive touchscreen Windows laptop, which as you can guess, was a million times harder to use than anything that's come out in the decade+ since then

She totally blew me away by learning on her own to drag and drop items with her finger. You try that with a resistive touchscreen.



Then she moved on to Windows Mobile phones, with a stylus.

When she was older, she switched to early Android tablets. Why? Because they ran Flash, which meant all the popular kid's websites like Moshi Monsters worked on them. Not on an iPad.

Now she has an iPhone, an iPad, and a MacBook. But she's also fully comfortable with PCs and Android.

So any OS is fine for kids. iPads are good, Android tablets are good. Moreover, you can install kid friendly launchers on Android, if you wish to lock things down.

Children are able to use samsung devices. I've given my cousins' sons my samsung phones and tablets and they had no trouble using them.

Children can use google hangouts to chat to family and friends....

Samsung should try to emulate MIUI and follow the services Xiaomi offers. MIUI is really like the best of both worlds. Once you know how to put your Xiaomi in recovery mode and clearing out all data, flashing ROMs that are rooted is relatively easy. Teens love personalization, so Samsung should install a themes app store similar to what Xiaomi and Oppo do.

Android is no longer harder to use than iOS. In fact, I was showing my cousin last night how to use my Xiaomi with swipe gestures. He isn't into tech but thought my phone was awesome. I made Android easier to use than iOS because it gave me those options. I just told him not to mess with my settings as I am very OCD with them. And Android offers profiles now where you don't always have to limit it to kids mode. There are also a ton of apps similar to App Locker that you set a password for them to open the app.

I think it is good to market to kids. They are the future. But to say Android or TouchWiz is harder to use or needs a more user-friendly sounds a bit odd. To a certain older demographic, simpler is not always better. Simpler might seem easier and smoother but it can also mean more limiting which is what I feel with a cookie-cutter like iOS feels to certain adults.

I have to laugh when I see post like this as I own both, iOS is not easier nor harder, essentially their the same. You want to make a call you press the dialer, text you press message app, games you tappa game or folder, settings you click settings icon, pull down drawer, installing apps, email etc..... just like just would on, gasp.... iOS.

The difference is, Android let's you do and tweak a lot more should you choose to do so.

I love Apple Products but I think that the iPhone needs a better operating system to compete. In the past the cheap build quality was the main thing that bugged me about Samsung phones.

I own an OnePlus One since 6 months or something and it's absolutely impressive what Android can do what iOs can't. You can easily hook up a mouse, usb-microphones, connect to a monitor etc.

Face-Time and iMessage are the best messaging services IMO. But you have to use a Apple device to use them ( and the % of people who own an iphone is much lower in Europe than in the US ).

I never had a "Apple only" environment at university or at work.
So in reality you use Whatsapp, Skype, Hangouts or other messenger to contact your friends and office/google docs to work together. All those programs are not that hard to use

I think Android is easier to use vs iOS thanks to its back button.

No matter what app you use, the back button (always in the same place) will take you to the previous screen.

This is unlike iOS whereby if one app leads to another app being opened, to return to the previous screen you have to open a task manager and select the previous app.

The Android solution to this problem is far, far better.

Its not the operating system's fault. People don't complain about Android, they've been complaining about the fit and finish of the Samsung phones. I think it will be a mistake by Samsung (or Google) to dumb down the OS in an effort to attract more people. Its trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

I don't have first hand experience of the Galaxy S6 but plenty of experience of Lollipop and when I tried to send a large video directly to another family member in the way that it is so easy on IOS I could not do it

On IOS families are busy using face time to keep in touch and sending video clips directly to each other because it is so easy a child can do it.

I know of people who have bought an iPad just in order to keep in touch with family members because it is so good and because it is so easy for their children to use.

Until Android can do that then people will ignore the superior specifications of flagship Android devices with their Widgets in favour of Apple.

Fundamentally, Samsung woes have everything to do with Android. It doesn't have the appeal and lock-in of the iOS ecosystem at the high-end and it allows other vendors to heavily undercut Samsung with the same OS.

I hate MIUI with a passion. And take a look at the new theming engine on the S6. Opens up a whole new market and you don't have to root the phone.

I then tried Google Drive but that puts the video on the cloud and sends a url by Gmail to the recipient who then have to register with Google drive and download it separately.

What universe are you in? Android has like 80% of the world market. Even after the bad 2014 year Samsung is still the largest Android OEM. Companies such as HTC, Sony and Motorola could only wish they had the same year. And even after the dominant year Apple had took less than a few points from Android as a whole.
I'm willing to bet that the S6/S6 Edge will be the hottest phone Samsung has ever produced and will rival iPhone 6s sales once the numbers are in. Currently there are no other Android phones that can match the S6. People got to stop underestimating Samsung/Android.
As long as Apple cares about profits it will never beat Android in marketshare.

Exactly! People here make it out that Android is some terrible OS that is forced upon people. Last time I checked AT&T is no longer the sole iPhone carrier. It's been like this for at least 2 years. And if people can't/do not want to pay Apple's high entrance fee how is this Androids fault? If Android is so terrible people would have picked Windows phone or BlackBerry.
