The 2gb of extra ram should go some way to addressing the poor ram management unless Samsung feck up the software ...

Nice looking phone, better than the S8 imho.

But I think I've had enough of Samsung phones myself as despite the undoubtedly good aesthetics and quality hardware components, I always end up fighting with the device in some regard whether it is software or simple maintenance such as screen protectors and invariably I feel my enjoyment of the device is being hampered.

So nice looking phone and can see the attraction, but not for me. Unless the Pixel XL 2 turns out to be a complete turkey and then the V30 is a no show in Europe ...

Kind of meh. It's just a slightly better Note 7. No Windows 10 DeX. At least force touch display and 3.5mm removal turned out to be false rumors as expected.

I watched the event to see what they had to announce, wasn't impressed at all.

I am not going to pre-order the N8....i will wait and see it in person and how it feels in my hands. It is down to the N8 and or the V30 for me....oh and the Pixel 2 XL on the Android side of the fence. I will see what the IP8 and 7s Plus have in store next month.

The Camera alone has sold me. One of my main hopes is that no second lens features are disabled in poor lighting. And they have just shown it's not. :)

LOL at the 3,300mAh battery for a 6.3" device, and still running good ol Lagwiz. This phone maybe sees Oreo in April 2018. And I am sure the bootloader is locked, and not rootable.

I am super pumped for the V30 reveal, dying to see how it truly turns out, as well as the Pixel XL 2 of course.

Idk if it's just me but a release date of September 15 seems too risky. By then people will know about the new iPhone and all it's features.

Feel as thought that will cause some people to preorder the iPhone instead...

Yeah I'd like to see and play with the N8, just don't want to purchase unless those other two turn out to be disappointments.

At least with the N8 though I know it will be released in Ireland so I can at least see it in a store, whereas with the other two (V30 / Pixel XL2) there is far greater odds they won't be officially released here meaning no chance of seeing in person requiring a commitment to import and purchase ....

I am in the same boat. I have had my bad luck with Samsung time and time again. Most notably the S5 since I had 8 warranty replacements for overheating. Worst case scenario, the V30/Pixel XL2/iPhone 8 aren't great, the Note 8 does extremely well and mimics the iPhone 7+ in terms of software performance, you can grab the Note 8 on a sale. Read reviews first because this device will be telling early with lag.

Am I the only one peeved that it's running LAST YEARS OS?!?!?! Oreo is now officially released but we have to wait 8 months for it.
See, this is why I can't get an Android device again. It's beyond ridiculous that new (non-Google) Android devices aren't running the latest OS. Samsung is at it again - impressive hardware, but horrible software. That 6GB of ram was to try to cover up the lag in Touchwiz. Every Samsung device I've gotten lags like s..t. I gave up on them.

Not at all. You have every right to be because it goes to show how crappy their software updates and device legacy support are. Considering that Android O is already out and other OEMs can release the newest pure Android version onto their own flagship skinned devices, Samsung is behind. The V20 came out with Nougat out of the box I believe. V30 is probably going to come out with Oreo out of the box.

You should know better. Software would have been finalised on this months ago and so there was zero chance of it having Oreo on it.

It's the same thing we hear every year. People need to get a grip with their expectations in that regard.

We know based on history it will likely be spring before we see Oreo on it. But given how skinned the OS with Samsung's customisation (good and bad) what are you really missing from O in all honesty. The new O android base optimisations mean nothing when it's so heavily skinned by the OEM anyway.

You're not the only one peeved but at this point...really? What else did you expect? And don't forget: it's not just Sammy that's at fault here. In the US, the carriers create as much of a problem with updating to a new Android OS as anything else.

Well, I can't say I saw much lag on the Note 7 at all, really virtually none. But it's still really annoying that I have to wait 8+ months for the "current" OS. I can't say this is endemic to Samsung phones though, as we will have the same issue with the V30 or most other android phones, but I think Samsung is the worst with their 8+ month wait times.

It does look super nice though, but have they released the pricing?

Don't blame carriers. That's lazy. Samsung takes often longer to update non carrier handsets than carrier ones. The carrier blame game is very much fallacious, we need to solely blame the oems and remove the easy pass.

Honestly, I assign a LOT of the blame to Google as well as Samsung. Sure android is open source, but they can withhold their G-apps and Android market from vendors to apply pressure for fast releases. The vendors, in turn, can apply pressure to the carriers. But going from wimpy OS provider to wimpy vendors to crappy carriers who only care about the initial hardware sale yields us this ridiculous farce. I was ironically amused the other day when I saw Google crowing about their 14% Nougat marketshare, lol.

Actually, Samsung's UI is beyond vanilla Android, even Oreo, when it comes to the features. I'm not impressed with some of Oreo's features. Especially the picture in picture feature that forces you to subscribe to YouTube Red.

And the V20 had crappy battery life. I hope LG doesn't make the same mistake this time around.

I don't omit the OEMs from blame, but the carriers are pretty bad. At least here in the states. VZW is notorious for holding updates up.

The only Samsung phone I had major problems with was the original galaxy note. All of the others have worked fine. I'll be getting mine from my carrier and will take out insurance so won't have to deal with Samsung.
