Still doesn't change the fact that this situation is one of diminishing returns. 1440p with slightly less battery life and slightly less performance or 1080p with slightly better battery life and slightly better performance? I'd take the latter any day.

Every single galaxy phone has gone up in battery life with every new gen phone screen.

The girls face on the 6s is HORRIBLE if that was the galaxy s6 taking it apple insider would make a whole story headline about how crappy the camera is.lets not forget this is a apple baised site and they held the gs6 back by not using it to its max potential.

They could of easily swapped into pro mode and corrected all those issues and the over sharpening could be gone in raw format and edited on dedicated computer software like every professional photographer does.next time you go to a wedding ask the photographer what format he is talking the pics and don't be surprised its all done in raw unprocessed pictures.

They held the gs6 back to make it as fair as possible for the iPhone to stand a chance and the colors on the flowers are blown out and the gs6 is far superior even in quick snap auto mode.

They also said the iPhone had a hard time focusing up close too.
Look, my original statement, and what I've been saying this whole time is, none of these phone cameras blow any other out of the water. We can debate the technical details all day long, but the video you used as evidence supports my statement. I'm not sitting here saying the S6 doesn't have a fantastic camera, because it does, but for the OP, or anyone else to claim the S6 camera blows away the 6S camera, well that's an asinine statement.

Imagine how the GS6 would have been with a 1080p display. And you can't say that the higher resolution doesn't impact battery life. Perfect example: LG G3.

they also said the Samsung over sharpened. If you are the type that buys a smartphone based on the camera, pick your poison.

Oled screens don't need brighter back lights like lcds to push through the small pixels.each new screen from Samsung has used less power then the phone before it.

They have also got brighter while using less power

Do yourselves a favour and forget mobileography. 95% of my Samsung/iPhone enjoyment is NOT the camera.

Get a DSLR if you can drop hundreds on a PHONE. You will never look at a phone camera the same way again.

On my S6 edge, I get an average of 4-6 SOT on max brightness, and battery still lasts the entire day while streaming music , several phones calls, and connected to my Gear 2 neo watch.

That's good enough for me. If I plan to be longer than a day without charging or very heavy use, I always have my small portable charger which can fully charge my phone about 3 times and is fast charge compatible.

I wouldn't want to sacrifice the display of my S6 edge for better battery life. I also rarely go a whole day without charging my phone, whether it be while I'm driving or home. I'm not one of those people that only charge at the end of the day.

That awkward moment when you realise Samsung makes most of the parts in Apple products. :D

Designed by Apple, manufactured by Samsung for Apple. Modern feudalism, huh.

It's really sad to see that Samsung cannot copycat technology they produce for someone else in their own backyard.

Awkward indeed.

Most people don't want to do that, for reasons of using one device, posting photos on social media easily, etc.

The gs6 makes calls and sends messages and It does it well... The ip6s makes calls and sends iMessages for me that's the icing on the cake......!

Exactly. There was probably one DLSR for every thousand camera phones that took pictures and vids of the Pope the last couple of days.

It still over sharpened and blew out highlights. I suppose all ills can be taken care of in Photoshop.

I won't read anything from Verge about technical discussions. That's a life style website for all I care.

I leave with this one, obviously 6S is still new and don't have results.

Listen, I'm a huge Apple fan. Own a Macbook Pro, iPad, multiple iPhones throughout the years.

I just bought a Samsung S6 as a secondary phone last month and first time using Android .... and I'm shocked by a few things.

* Samsung's OLED display and resolution blows even the 6S/6S Plus out of the water ... out of the galaxy for that matter. Why is Apple behind and offering low resolution outdated screens compared to the best Samsung/Android phones. Please don't bring up battery life. :) I would die to have an iPhone running iOS with the super crisp Samsung S6 screen. Even photos I take on the S6 and view on the 6/6S look terrible on the 6/6S screen.

* Why isn't Apple catching up with camera capabilities ? They finally upgraded to 12 Megapixels from 8, but kept the same aperture. The S6 camera is simply fantastic and makes the iPhone 6S/6S+ camera look amateur in comparison. I'm aware if Apple tried to match the S6 camera they'd need a bigger sensor and camera would get bigger, so maybe that's the reason.

Only con I have with the S6 is the battery life. But at hundreds cheaper than the 6S/6S+ and beating it in every category except battery life, I'm kinda perplexed at Apple keeping their phones outdated.
Congrats and enjoy! :)

One of the best things WRT iPhone/iOS launches is watching people hype features we've had in Androids/Samsungs for years.

Forbes just posted on Twitter about WiFi Assist, had me chuckling a bit, as not only do we have that in most Androids, we also have Download Boost that allows LTE&WiFi to work at once when downloading large files....and the best part? These features are not turned On by default, so you don't get a shocking data usage bill from your network.

I wouldn't want a iSamphone. Choose one or the other. I at the minute like Samsung. iPhone is more about the OS. If Samsung made a like for like iPhone clone running android it would be behind in every way. Only Apple gets away with older specs every year.

I care about photography. Most don't. I know the difference. Tiny phone sensors will NEVER match even a crop sensor DSLR let alone full frame.

Its the difference between nice pic and knocked out of the park good. Social media doesn't matter because facebook compresses the images. Easy never equals good.

That's all great, but you aren't most people. Most people don't give a damn about having DSLR quality to post their selfies. Easy is easy, which is what most people want.

DxOMark just updated their ranking to include LG G4 which is now #2 behind #1 S6 Edge which represents the S6, S6E+ and Note 5. I'm guessing when they add the iPhone 6S+ it'll move from 6th to 5th.

Exactly. Sure, 4K looks fantastic on a small device, but it's unnecessary. It's ironic that OP loves the high resolution screen of S6, but doesn't like the battery life, when they very much go hand-in-hand.

I would prefer a thicker phone and a longer battery life, but, that's just me. It seems that almost everyone but me must love thinner phones, and, they just accept the battery life they are given, since all the manufacturers seem to be going for "thin" rather than long battery life.

I suppose that you are correct, but, DSLR quality isn't happening, anyway. Actually, I would just like these phones to have the quality that a point-and-shoot optical zoom camera from 3-4 years ago has. But, they don't, and, they won't any time soon- there is just not enough room. It is amazing that they do as well as they do.

Haha, your right. The selfie generation doesn't care about image quality. Remember the grainy selfies from the not long ago iPhones. Shuddered when i saw them. Your right, good enough is good enough for the most part. Heck i get frustrated with the quality of point and shoot cameras. When you know what's possible...

No idea what this means.
So you're actually looking at a few things here:

At face value, you're looking at a photo that's presumably been downsampled to be able to compare every camera on an equal footing, because each camera has a different shear MP capability. Just pick the photo that has the highest image quality--- clearly the top left 2, and then sgs6. You should be aware that the top left 2 are not smartphone cameras, but professional/semi professional cameras.

The setting all those photos are taken at is ISO 800. Basically it is a forced exposure, and in this case it is used to detail the effects of noise reduction in each software/camera setup.

this chart is in agreement with a video that the verge just released; which actually shows iphone 6s samples.

They still picked the samsung s6 over the iphone 6s
