If you go to Macintosh HD, open the Library folder, then Extensions, do you see these:

SamsungPortableSSDDriver.kext
SamsungPortableSSDDriverX.kext

both with August 2021 dates?

Where do I find Macintosh HD exactly?

It's your drive where everything is stored on your Mac (along with folders for Applications, Users etc). I can't remember if it is visible by default when starting from scratch. But go to the Preferences menu in the Finder, select General and click on Hard disks. It should then appear on your desktop

That's good!

When you ran the installer, did it say anything about putting your M1 Mac into Recovery Mode and running Startup Securities Utility?

OK, I think that may be the problem. A couple of things to check before though:

In the Finder, under the Go menu, select Library.

In the folder that opens, go to LaunchAgents

is there anything in there that says something like:
com.samsung.portablessd.mon.plist
com.srib.pssddaemon.plist

Ok, rather than talk you through that, we'll skip that bit for now!

When setting up your Mac, have you at any time, used the Startup Securities Utility in Recovery Mode to allow kernel extensions to run?

If you haven't, then I believe you need to do so to allow old-style kernel extensions like the Samsung ones to run. There is some explanation here on this Apple webpage and the steps you need to follow.

Startup Security Utility for Apple Silicon Macs

You need to put your Mac into 'Reduced Security' and 'Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers' .

It isn't as scary as it sounds, and you can always put things back to 'Full Security' afterwards if necessary. Have a read through to see if you're happy doing so.

I've got to go now (it's 3:12 am here in the uk!). Hopefully someone in your local time can pick this up and help you with it.

Steph, as someone else said earlier, I really think you should take this to Apple or call in local professional help.

You are being asked to do things way out of your comfort zone and experience and there are dangers that you will make matters worse.

I know from bitter experience that installing the Samsung apps on M1 macs is far from straightforward, and should never have been necessary for you, and may still not be necessary.

There is only so much that anyone can do to help in a forum, when responders can't actually see your computer to really understand what is going on.

At this point it sounds to me that your data is still on the T5, but not accessible to you, and also the T3, so it really should be possible to get where you want to be, but as the saying goes, when you are in a hole stop digging.

I dont see library under the Go menu…
You need to hold OPTION key to see ~/Library
Also, you can choose to have that library always show on menu list but by default it isn't - Apple started hiding/removing it a 4-5 versions ago

It seems you do need to switch on 'Reduced Security' and 'Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers' on an M1 Mac before you run the installer, as outlined in this document on the Samsung website (scroll to the fifth page, 'Troubleshooting Guide for MacPC with M1 Chip & Big Sur OS'). It's a shame they bury this information and haven't updated it for Monterey:

MacOs Compatibility Troubleshooting Rev 1.1

But as others have suggested, you might be better off getting local help with this one.

Steph123. I think you've exhausted this forum as a resource with this. I am sure that if we could see and access your Mac, we could probably resolve the issue quickly. The most obvious solutions have been tried outside of that. If you have an  Store, or some other shop near that you can find that preferably specializes in Macs you should take it to them for help. I am sure once they can see what you see, they can help you recover you data from the drive. It's still there more than likely but the Samsung software is getting in the way.

As a side note, once you do recover your data AND have it on your new Mac, if you intend to use the drive for a similar purpose, I would reformat it using Disk Utility and not use the Samsung software again. Then you can use a back up app or manually copy over files that you want to back up from that point on.

I'm in between calls with Samsung and Apple. Why so complicated...sigh. Better to stick to one company I think.
Anyway, the Samsung guy has me at the same place as @jcscol and changing the Security Settings in Recovery Mode, but he said I should call apple for that because he couldn't walk me through that. So here I am. I hope this works!!!!

It worked!!! You guys are amazing, truly!

Thank you so much! @jscol, what you were explaining to do was exactly the process that worked! It took like 2 hours on the phone with both Samsung and Apple though yikes!

However, now, I see that the T5 only works while the security is reduced. How can I fix that?!
