I read that in the US Samsung has applied for hazmat permits to safely ship recalled Note 7s in special transport containers back to where they need to go. I don't have the link handy since it's something I read in passing amidst chores. Anyway it may be an option for them to do this in other countries. I'm not sure what the laws are in the various European countries.

Anyway this is spiraling into a bigger mess than I could have foreseen in e early days of the recall.

I know there is no way I'll be able to take my N7 on my annual school hiking trip out west this year. I was really looking forward to using that incredible camera on some western vistas.
Yes it's a tragic situation of massive proportions. But out of adversity dawns opportunity. I bet Samsung will regroup and emerge stronger and better off.

The success of that is down to consumers not Samsung. They still haven't addressed the issue they've had to put customers at ease that it won't happen again. If they stay quiet and then release a device next year hoping everybody has forgotten, I can't see it doing them any favours.

This would make sense. Phones are getting thinner, and when the battery expands where can it go? This can happen to any smartphone, including the iPhone. Each year it keeps getting thinner.
There are reports that fast charging may be a factor in Samsung Note 7 explosions, if so it seems Apple made the right choice by not pushing lithium batteries to their limits in this manner.

Yep, can confirm from iPhone 6 up if you charge with iPad charger it compares favourably with fast/turbo charge on android. Not sure why apple don't make more of a mention of this or at least package the more powerful charger with the iPhone especially given its very expensive price tag...
