Well, those of you hoping this 'issue' will be corrected prior to inventory reaching the West may be out of luck. Samsung themselves have stated in the manual for the European Galaxy Note 4, which arrived on the company's support site in the past day that the gap is 'a necessary manufacturing feature' and that 'over time, friction between parts may cause this gap to expand slightly.'

Not a promising update but at the same time, the presence of a gap doesn't mean the device is compromised--likely is sealed up tight. Would be annoyed if it did act like a dirt and grime trap though.

I read the story here at Android Central.

I'll agree that this should be a non-issue at this point. However, if in a few months there are significant reported incidents of dust/moisture beneath the glass, then it would be an issue. Until then, gimme a break.

This just smacks of someone trying to deflect attention away from Apple or towards Samsung. IMO, both of these 'gates' should not be receiving the attention they're getting.

Yeah, same thing with bendgate. It's not an issue until we see significant amount of users reporting their iphones bent. Why people don't just buy and enjoy their freakin phones, and warranty them if needed is beyond me.

Gapgate really seems to be something the Apple faithful want to believe is a defect. Let's wait till the farm thing is in our hands and see if it affects functionality. A phone with poor rigidity is a real problem. So let's not compare the two as similar issues.

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
I think the bigger point/moral of the story is that they shouldn't be taking a crack at their competitors when they can't get their Q/A right on their own devices. They need to be concentrating on making a better, more robust product then trying to take swipes at competition. Because this incident really makes them look foolish.

Are you saying that about everybody else who took potshots at Apple?

RIM, HTC, LG, Nestle etc?

If they've had similar issues going on with their products at the time, yes. In short, they need to make sure their proverbial ducks are in a row before taking a swing at competition.

I'm pretty sure that LG Smart TVs may be vulnerable to Shellshock. Perhaps concentrating on that hole, getting it patched, and making sure they don't have any other holes would be better use of their time, then when that is done, they are free to take shots at Apple as they please.

But is it "taking a swing" or just some light hearted slap boxing? Personally, I just saw all the various tweets as light hearted humor. I believe HTC had a rather clever quip "designed to withstand the most demanding environments. Like your pockets" .... I thought it was funny.

My fault. Ads not for phones bending, but mocking in general.

^^ from a Marketing perspective I would say one should never mention their competition. Period. However, from a social media perspective Samsung is up against a generation of smart alecks forum surfing customers that thrive on this stuff. Restaurants and fast food places do it a lot too.

At the end of the day what makes this ad work is that it's 100% true and everyone buying a 6 Plus knows it.

I think the thin gap around the screen is done on purpose. This is Samsung's first real metal frame around the xscreen and they probably figured that small thin gap will help protect the screen from breaking if the phone was dropped and the metal would transfer all the pressure to the screen and crack easier.

I think every single Note 4 would have had this gap included if that were the case.

For the sake of science I will head to a Samsung store tomorrow and see if this gap is a real issue.

It'll give me an excuse to play with the Note 4 a little more anyways :p

(also FWIW when I was ogling over the phone earlier this week I didn't really notice a gap)

I've done that already. I had very thin paper that a postage stamp was peeled from. No gap that I noticed, and couldn't fit that thin paper between anything. Tried it on the two white display models they had. The pics show a black model, so I hope it's not a black model thing since I preordered black.

I get the message....you are upset about Gapgate. You see it as a chance to get back at Samsung because they mocked Apple? Is that the gist of it for you?

No. I have no interest at all in Samsung. But you missed my point:

They shouldn't be spending their time putting ads together and mocking their competition when they can't even get production and QA right on their own products. They should spend more time getting their gear right than bashing others for having theirs wrong.

What's the big deal? I have seen several Note 4's in person and for the life of me I can't figure out what gap they are talking about. I didn't try to stick a business card in there or anything. Heck I can fit a business card corner into the space between an iphone's button and the case, but who cares?

I have no idea why people are making a big deal about this. It does NOT affect functionality in the least, it doesn't compromise the integrity of the device or make it more susceptible to something like bending. Gahh, I totally understand the annoyance with bendgate, but this is just an exponential level of nitpicking.

This x100

So your issue is with just Samsung or all others that mocked Apple about Bendgate?
The video you referenced was put out rather late in Bendgate. it was just released on Oct 1st.

Then speaking of quality control. Hasn't Apple been getting a lot of QA issues of their own? I mean iCloudgate and IOS8gate that bricked 40K iphones.
Didn't the IOS8 update to fix IOS8gate break Bluetooth? Then what about the iCloud conversion actually erased a whole bunch of peoples data? All of these are on MacRumors if you care to look them up. But maybe Apple needs to follow your advise and do some QA of their own......
If they get their gear in order people won't have anything to mock anymore.....

what do you care about a company and how they spend their funds and time? Whether you agree with it or not, they poke fun at Apple all the time. Good for them if that's their strategy. Apple is a pretty easy target as of late.

In the end, phones should be able to withstand a bend test in the back pocket of a human. Notes do and the Jury is out IMO on the 6 Plus. I'll await the real world.

In terms of the QA on Samsung, it's just fine.
