I was just able to snag one of these "revision 2" MZ-KPV1T00/0A2 (655-1860A) like Synchro3's. There was only one available or I'd post the link. Should have it here and up by the end of next weekend. I can post numbers if anyone is interested.

Yes, indeed! I am interested. :)

Is this really a question?

It would still be limited to PCIe 4x, as defined by the controller used.

Is this really a response?

Here is what I was asking for.

---------------------

Edit: Looking at the controller chip part number, it's obviously the Mac variant of the next Samsung SSD.
Same controller number here:
http://erosionally5.rssing.com/browser.php?indx=4066690&item=8393

The bottleneck is the PCI Express 2.0 (4 lane port) of the cMac Pro, which limits the bandwidth tops around 1500 MB/s.

Looks like someone got up on wrong side of bed, sorry my question was so dumb.

No worries, looks like I was just an ass.

I first noticed the controller matches the unreleased Samsung SM953 now. Does OS X even support NVme yet? And M.2 is still limited to PCIe 4x, as far as I know.

Maybe the SSD acts internally with NVMe, but it is listed as 'Generic AHCI Controller', in Mountain Lion and Mavericks.

Edit: In Yosemite it is listed as Generic SATA Express Controller.

Got the MZ-KPV1T00/0A2 - 655-1860A installed and booted into (10.10) and I can confirm Synchro3's numbers:

Thanks!

In Yosemite it is listed as 'Generic AHCI Controller' or 'Generic SATA Express Controller'?

I guess we know what to look for now.

Although I don't need 1TB, so it would be fun if this trickled down to the 256GB and 512GB versions as well.

Guys, just want to say, even though I got the "slow" Apple 1TB the boots on my testing machines go by in seconds now.

Double click on something to open and BANG it's right there.

These are 4 to 5 times faster than a SATA drive SSD in a bay.

You won't regret this.

I don't sell them (currently) but you won't regret buying one.

If and when you do, I will be first in line!

I'm anxious to bite the bullet on one of these, but I'm a little intimidated by all the options. Did you get yours from RAM City (the Australian company)?

That simply means the other parts are overpriced for now.

There are some crazy deals on used apple ssd's on eBay that were pulled from systems. 512's are $250. 256's are 130. Revision A06. Rev A02 is 2x, I'm not sure what A06 delivers. The seller is jennifernguyen0907

Sure it's used, but so is my 840pro that's almost 2 years old that still is as fast as the day I picked it up. For those lookin for a fast/cheap upgrade. It's one heck of a price.

Am I correct in thinking that none of these are as fast as the 1TB, and aren't these 2x parts?

Can't find a single PCIe SSD for that cheap on eBay. Got any links?

The 512's sold through. I picked one up. It was A great deal not to pass up at that price. I can confirm the same part number in revision A02 was x2. This is not the nVME platform. Just a cheap path to the technology. $130+adapter for a 256 is a great price for someone who wants to try the technology before spending the big bucks.

Thanks, I'm not looking to try out the Tech., others here have done that for me already. I need 512GB, but I don't think that a 4x part in that size exsists yet. Am I correct about that? If I'm going to buy, I want the 4x, otherwise I can't justify the purchase.

Also, do these things have controllers/Firmware, or does whole PCIe thing eleminate the need?

Not a problem. Many users are looking for a low cost options as well. It looks like there are more 512gb parts. PCIE ssd's place the storage directly on the Pcie bus. Placing one controller, rather than two, between the NAND and your cpu.

Does this mean that there is no firmware? The reason I ask is that I wonder if firmware updates would be a problem since the SSDs are mounted on a third party card. SATA SSDs currently can't be updated while mounted on PCIe cards, and have to be connected to a native SATA connection.

Also, still wondering if the 4X sticks only come in 1TB sizes.

There is firmware that runs on the ARM CPU. If Apple ever sends an update for the SSD, it would be applied. The sintech adapter is only a pcie interface and can't be detected as a pcie device. The SSD is the pcie device.

Two of the 512gb ssd's in raid 0 would be faster than the new 1tb SSD. Since they are x2 devices, they would work on slots 3/4 in full capacity. I posted the numbers from a 512gb x2 earlier in the thread. If I would remember correctly, it would probably hit 1300-1400 mb/s as a software raid 0.

**EDITED RAID 0 SPEED
