I read some of this huge thread and noticed that the LYCOM is recommended. However i found these two units and i just want to ask if there is any reason they should not work, and if there are any setbacks? Did anyone try there cheaper models from ebay? Is there any really cheap and bootable one with room for dual SSDs so that they can be RAIDed for 2000+ Mb/s?

Mac Pro is 4.1 and i want to boot from SSD so i am planning on running the AHCI model.

Yes, I would like to know more about those adapters also...is there anyone tested those?

What do you think on chances ever seeing a sm961 1TB AHCI Model???
Is there at least a small one, should I send back my sm951 that I just ordered?
Probably zero chance of Polaris controller having AHCI version.

I wouldn't buy an OEM drive anyway. They are incompatible with Samsung Magician, so you can't update the firmware or use the company's excellent maintenance utilities.

I've tried to read as much of this thread as I can but there seems to be a lot of differing views/tech updates since this was started so excuse the ignorance if this has been asked before.

In the UK there are no XP941's I can find, or any Apple drives listed as SSUBX/SSUAX. Or any of the Sintech Apple PCIe Adaptors - I'm having a mare!

Is there anything to look out for in terms of Apple drives, model/spec/serial etc? Would THIS drive be OK in a Lycom DT-120? Is there any reason you needed the Sintech for the Apple drives?!

Thanks

I couldn't find any sm941 in the UK a month or two ago so I doubt that there are any more available now. Are you looking for sm941 because of the performance issue with sm951 in slot 2? If the cost is not an issue then the Amfeltec Squid with sm951(s) is an option as performance is not throttled in slot 2. I am still trying to decide whether it's really worth it other than for bragging rights:) as I already have 2 x 1TB SSD in RAID-0 on an Apricorn Velocity Duo in slot 2 in my 2008 Mac Pro 3,1.

Try finding them on Amazon.

You folks must know, of course, there is no such thing as an SM941. It's an XP941 and it's successor the SM951.

Lou
Whatever they are called they are unavailable in the UK. I thought that I had found a couple on eBay but they turned out to be used from a US seller.

Yeah pretty much - from the thread I kind of just got the vibe the 941 was the a lot more solid for a small loss in speed. I understand even at half speed the
^^^^I now what is says - But did you even try?

Lou

They actually added a price now - unfortunately I went for a EVO 850 last night as I wanted to avoid the issues, great deal for someone though! Thanks for the help.

I don't think `scan had any XP941s I think that it was just a glitch with their website. The listing is still there but now says "Pre OrderItem currently awaiting an ETA.". I mailed them to ask for the price but got no answer.
