Ive only seen one in the wild so far (mind you i have one at home that i'm typing on right now). It was at a chipotle. Some dude had it in the incase case/stand and he was reading what looked to be an instant paper feed while chomp in on the burrito. I have to admit. Even though I own an iPad I thought it was so freaking cool to see one out in public.
i find it so strange that so many ipad's have sold, and i've yet to see another person with one. i bring mine out quite often, no need to bring the macbook anymore.
I saw my first wild iPad at school where one of the teachers had it out in the hall next to his macbook just workin away. It was suprising to me cuz this was only a couple weeks after they shipped.
Almost everywhere I being my iPad I get the feeling everyone around me is trying to get a look at my iPad and what I'm doing...anyone else feel that way?
Yeah...other than the one other teacher at my school who I share Mac stories with, and my trips to the apple store in Houston, I have yet to bump into an iPad in public.
I take mine almost everywhere...and I usually get it out of it's bag at some point where ever I am.
Im in florida and i've yet to see one. Im in an engineering college, so i expect to see a lot in the fall. Our school gave out free iPod Touches for the honor students. I wonder if they are going to give out iPads.
I had a layover in Chicago while flying home and they have little tables with power outlets to charge phones, laptops, etc. on and while I was charging my iPad, three other people with iPads were doing the same thing. It was interesting to see the cases, apps, etc. they had. There was a group of people watching us, drooling. That is the first time I have seen one in the wild.
Yeah, I saw my first wild iPad just yesterday. It was a misty, rainy day and I took a long walk in the wood. Suddenly, just in front of me, an iPad appeared from behind a tree and briefly examined me. It then quietly hushed over the trail and disappeared in the bushes. I stayed mesmerized for a long time. It was a somewhat of a National Geographic moment.
Yeah, I saw it at a graduation ceremony. It killed me because a 4 year old was using it, what a lucky bastard to such awesome toys. When I was his age, I had a toy truck LOL!!!
They look HUGE in public too. In fact, I thought it wasn't the iPad after a few minutes because of it's size but since there is no competition and it was in fact a multi-touch device, the chances of it being anything else is slim to none.
I've had a couple of wild iPad encounters since I first got mine.
First one was in the train to London. I booked my seat with a table and the guy that sat literally across me was playing around with his iPad. What a coincidence! Took mine out when the train departed and we had a good conversation about it lol
I encountered twice at St. Pancras station, one time at Starbucks and the other at another coffee shop.
I've seen two around these parts. One was a guy reading with one at a cafe. The other was a woman in the bow of a canoe, reading something on her iPad while her husband/boyfriend paddled her along the local river on a really nice spring day. I couldn't believe that she would even bring her iPad on a river trip let alone be happier staring at its screen rather than the wonderful scenery around her.
I think part of the reason some of us aren't seeing many iPads out and about is because it's just not the kind of device that people take everywhere with them.
I've had mine since launch and haven't taken it with me anywhere once. Meanwhile my iPhone goes everywhere I go. I pretty much use my iPad as my around the house laptop while my Macbook Pro now stays on my desk hooked up to a monitor and multiple external hard drives.
