Sand will wreak havoc on most any surface.

I'd throw out the $60 and get a case at the same time.

I actually just couldn't think of an excuse for running outside to my car to get my camera :D

Nevertheless, I am still impressed by the screen's durability. Unfortunately, sand, which is harder than glass, WILL scratch the glass.

just a side note glass is made from sand :p

If you have an iPhone and don't want to worry about scratching the screen, do yourself a favor and spend the $14.95 on Power Support's "Crystal Film". I bought some the day I bought my iPhone and I will continue to buy them for the life of my phone. "Scratch resistant" or not, the screen is the life-blood of our favorite new toy, so protect it.

EDIT: Power Support says they are $16 on their site, but I bought mine for the price listed above at the Apple store.

Great idea. Thanks to you, I just ordered that.

In the meantime, I have not removed the screen cover it shipped with, and I bought the clear Belkin case although it added a little bulk to it. I'd rather the bulk than damage.

wait... so you're still using that plastic apple shipped it with?

Bah, when I tried to take pictures yesterday, I couldn't really take a picture with the scratches visible. Fortunately, that phone ended up having battery issues, so it was switched out for a new one.

I was barely getting four hours of usage, even with wifi off
My phone wasn't fully charging either

I am not getting any bad scratches on the screen, but I have noticed some micro scratches. The place where I'm getting scratches and actually some bad ones, is on the chrome that borders the screen.

w00tang. i've also gotten scratches on the border. :)     :p ;) :apple:

how does the return/exchange policy work for scratches? Do i take it the genius bar and theyll just replace it? I was thinking of seeing if I can exchange it anyways because I have been experiencing some extremely low in call volume.

Nope, you have to have a legit problem with your unit. They probably won't exchange it for low call volume.

me too

the apple genious said not to put anyhting on the screen as it inhibits it prom working properly, but i have the body kit, so it covers the rest. I am very happy.

I had a few of those on my old unit. I purchased the invisishield full kit for my new phone, though.

I have heard the same, but that's actually not the case. The screen works flawlessly with it on.

I got the Power Support crystal film and it's a lot better and more effective with the touchscreen than I expected it to be.

As for the idea of the screen interfering with touchscreen operation.. It depends on whether or not the screen protector is electrically transmissive. The iPhone multitouch screen is a capacitance sensing element, but keep in mind that the actual sensing element is under a layer of glass and you already are not making direct contact with it. However a screen made of material that is electrically resistant would not be sufficient... So be sure to stick to films designed specifically for the iphone.

I also got an InCase rubber case, black, which protects the edges and back. It's also pretty grippy which is nice especially when trying to hold the phone while typing.

The combination of the two seem to provide great protection around the entire phone and I feel a lot more confident handling the phone now.

so i can return it if it has a minor scratch and pay the restocking fee? the only problem is actually finding one before my 14 days are up.

You CAN return it if it has scratches!!!

...if they don't notice. Seriously, wear and tear is not covered. This screen is way more resilient than any other cell phone or iPod screen I've ever seen. If you treat it well, it shouldn't scratch. Who cares about the backing, if your worried, get a case. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's only new once. That feeling will go away and soon you will be picking your teeth with it! Just try to relax...
