Just received a call from Apple to take my 27" imac to a local Apple Store for replacement. The caller told me that they are doing this as a fix for the yellow tinge. I will be making an appointment and taking it in. They say 3-5 days for the repair.

Yeah you would think its good news. Wondering if they are confident in this repair or not? As always you can end up with a screen worse than what you have with dead pixels or what ever. Going to have to think this through.

got a call as well...

told to take it to the store for a screen replacement...

Hey if you get another bad screen, make them replace. If this thing is really a transportation issue, maybe, transporting ONLY the screens they're better protected...if it's not made by the transportation itself, well, either way, they most have found out the problem and now have enough screens to make the replacements at the apple stores.

snowing here...

so I am going to wait a few days and for a few reports this actually fixes it before I lug this thing to the Store...

I just got my call. Since I bought the Applecare, I will be scheduling onsite service with them.

I wonder if this has to do with the recent shipment of week 6 machines (which were shipped 2 weeks before scheduled).

I HOPE the week 6's have the new screens already. This is good news.

I am hoping that myself. I replaced 6 iMacs already and ended up not taking one home. The last 2 replacements were week 5's. It might too close to call but it's possible. I'm thinking week 7 iMacs should be good.

Limited to one screen replacement...

is what I was told today by the Apple Genius. They setup the replacement, but said it was a one time deal...

Can you expand on that?

Well, what I mean is that this sounds a bit unfair if you encounter additional problems withthe screen. Perhaps if you 'okay it' before taking possession of it, you can't come back complaining of yellowing?

The Genius said that Apple found an issue where "some" displays could show a yellow tint/tinge and that has been fixed, so if you report your display as being yellow, they will swap it out once... The Genius said my display looked perfectly fine to him, but he'd gladly setup the swap for me.

Not sure what exactly he meant, but to me it sounds like apple will swap out yellow tinted displays once with new ones. After that who knows...

Hope to have it back in 2 to 3 days.

The genius will say that

They act like they are doing you a favor and not actually changing out a defective part.

If the screen is defective they have no choice but to replace it. No matter how many times.

Despite what the genius (these guys are complete buffoons) tells you.

At least Best Buy will hire some hot chicks.

Although some of the other Apple store chicks are not bad.

I seriously think that they have some policy like this:

1) Buzz cut or goatee -Check
2) Weird Glasses -Check
3) Sandals - Check
4) Hair Sticking straight up (Gelled) - Check
5) Worship Steve Jobs - Check
6) Graduate High School - Check
7) ****** - Check

That is it, you are hired.

I think I'm in need of a new job :D hahaha

Me too

I just got a call from Apple customer relation saying that the new LCD replacement for solving the yellow issue is available for my iMac.

I asked him if it is the new panel able to solve the yellow problem. He said Yes, and told me that the announcement of the solution just came out today stating that the problem will be fixed with the new panel replacement.

He seemed to be confident though

well, it's there job. they've got to "have confidence in there voice" over the phone, never the less, it's good to know Apple is already giving some solution :)

I just received a phone call from Apple a few minutes ago and they are sending a technician to my house to replace the screen and fix the yellow tinge! Apple knows how to treat their customers right! :D
