Just did a screen recording (720p - 16mb) of the 'judder'. This happens on several websites, at random, when scrolling lots of content. Notice how it hasn't reached the bottom of the page (the scroll bar on the right isn't at the bottom). It won't let me go beyond that point when it starts to judder..

I would guess that the page has not completed loading. What is in the address bar at the top? A circular arrow or an X

Thanks for the video. What website is that. I want to test the same site.

Is this choppiness only seen when using a monitor?
I see none of it but I don't use a monitor.
As far as Safari is concerned it could be the sites you go to. They load so much gubbins now and it all has to be constantly redrawn when you're scrolling and some of the ads are slow to load.
I have no difficulties with Facebook which I've heard complaints about.
I do have problems scrolling with some news sites but that's to be expected as they load so much stuff over and above the news stories.
I get it on MR, as well as YT, and many other sites.

The page is definitely fully loaded, this happens on several websites such as Twitter, MacRumours, Instagram (at random like I said). I've left it for 10+ minutes before and come back to it and it still does it.

That was just a random for sale advert on AV Forums. Here is a direct link to that page I had the issue on:

But as I've said a few times, it happens entirely randomly on several websites - I've had it happen on this site and on Twitter recently. I could come back to that page in a couple of days and it might not happen.

Do you have the site name please?
Some pages are so badly written/loaded up that they never load fully.

Thanks. It's a tiny bit jittery for me. Not much but it's visible.
But that's not the page in the video because it insists I log in to see that.

Since I am not a member, I don't see the same thing you did. I use an adblocker and still experience the slight jitter on a lot of sites.

Ah okay, my fault, that's a sub-forum you have to be logged in to see.

I'll try and repeat it on another website.

No, just my MBA. I have noticed the same thing on my iPad Pro. I think it is a Safari bug.
Thanks Robert. It's curious as I just don't see that on mine.
I get no jittering on MR at all. Smooth as butter, scrolling. I too use an ad blocker - AdGuard.
Don't phones/iPads and Macs visit different versions of a site?

Okay here's another link which is public on the same website (AV Forums) which is image heavy and has a long page. I've left it for over a minute and when scrolling down I get about 3/4 of the way down the page before it judders again...

That is the kind of thing I see on a regular basis.

Here's another video of the issue, more pronounced. Can get 3/4 of the way down then it won't let me go any further.

Yep, very slightly jittery and once I get to 3/4 of the way down it just jumps and returns to where it was. I can't get past that point.
Very odd but it's not something I've come across before.

I get no chop using either Safari or Edge. Using a base model MBA M1.

Have you tried the page I linked above that a couple of us have had issues with (the jitter stopping any scrolling all the way to the bottom). I posted a video above showing what I mean. I'm using the same MBA as you and using Safari.

This might be of interest to you. Read down past the Adguard entries

Looks like the tech preview may be the way to go
As one of the replies there said, hopefully it'll be fixed in the next Big Sur update. Then again that post is from mid-December and it's now February so I don't hold out much hope.

You would think Apple would fix something like this pronto with their native apps.

Not an unreasonable request :)
