Hi All,

Wicknix has released a new version of SeaLion.

Wicknix said:
32.2.1 is now available for ppc32 linux. LOTS of changes. Default themes changed, prefs dialog changed, new logo, fixed missing application icon on linux, dark mode available (set via prefs pane), some new extensions and themes added to the sealion-extras.zip, etc, etc.

This is a fantastic browser because of a fast and great old user interface with the latest Goanna layout and rendering engine.

Download: sealion-32.2.1-linux-powerpc-gtk2.tar.bz2

Further information: SeaLion - A web browser for 32-bit PowerPC Linux (Void / Debian 11)

I successfully tested the new SeaLion 32.2.1 on MintPPC today.

Additionally, I added my preferred theme from an old version of SeaLion and I installed Greasemonkey and ViewTube successfully.

The new SeaLion works great and this is definitely my preferred web browser on Linux PPC currently.

Many thanks to Wicknix for this great browser. Well done!

Cheers,
Christian

@xeno74 i have another update you can have Casey add to the Fienix repo. This was built on Fienix 6, but should run on most any 32-bit PPC Linux.

SeaMail is now available (an update to the old SpiderMail).

I'm not building this every release because mail clients really don't require as many updates as browsers do.
So for now it's available from here instead of my git repo.

Cheers

Well, those wont happen for basically the same reasons as why chromium legacy can't be built for 10.6.

Edit:and yes 12.6 does need a privacy respecting browser. I don't trust the current big boys.

Correct. They are few and far between for those browsers. About all those can get is updated certificates at this point. There could be a stray bug fix that's still applicable here and there, but making those browsers work with more modern sites is out of the question at this stage in the game. They'll still work for many years yet, just not on every site.

Cheers

will sealion run under wicknix build of lubuntu 16.04?....I tried fienix and debian but they are both dog slow even with mesa drivers installed(Powrbook G4 1.67). I used lubuntu little while back and I was happy with it. I just need a linux partition that has access to updated browser and email client as that all it would be used for every once in a when tenfourfox has a hard time opening somthing. I mean I think I know the answer to my question which no but I thought Id ask...I understand kernel and dependencies and what not being from back in 2016...just curious....

Sadly, no it will not run on 16.04. Too old. You could try the "hack" to update 16.04 using debians repositories though. It's linked on the remix thread. If you can bring libc up far enough it may work.

Also, to speed up fienix, or mate and xfce in general, disable the Marco compositor. That's what's making the UI slow. Or better yet install another DE or WM that doesn't use a compositor. Problem solved. :)
