Security Update 2017-001 - Safari & Spotlight Search crashing

Walk me through those steps please.
Did everyone else having this issue have their computer "magically" fix itself? Mine is still flipping out and I can't seem to find a fix anywhere. I've tried the steps above but it's still acting like a meth head! Grr!
I installed the first update the day it came out. Turned my MBP on today and it showed the second update and already updating.
However I only see it updated once in my update history, the update from 11/29.

I’m having the same issue. Only happening to my primary admin account. Safari and spotlight both crashing. I noticed that spotlight didn’t start crashing until Safari did. I’ve gone through all the normal troubleshooting techniques, even did a full restore from backup. At first the restore seemed to work, but after a while the crashing started back up. My problem, unfortunately, has not yet magically fixed itself.
I am having the same issue.

I'm having the same issue, after my first restart after installing the recent security update.
Spotlight keeps crashing (as seen by it's disappearance and reappearance every 5-10 seconds in the menu bar). Safari won't stay open for long either.
I've tried a number of different things. I attempted using mdutil in terminal to turn off Spotlight indexing, removed the indexes, manually deleted them, turned it back on, played around with the settings for Spotlight in System preferences, and so on, and nothing worked. I even played around with my User Accounts to see if that would solve anything, to no avail.
I resorted to backing everything up and going with a format/clean install of High Sierra. I thought it straightened everything out, but my first restart after the security update things started glitching out again.
Right now spotlight actually seems to have settled down after doing a SMC reset (didn't really think it would do anything but gave it a try), but Safari is still crashing. Not sure what the issue or best recourse might be. Maybe just waiting it out at this point and/or waiting for another Apple update...

macOS 10.13.1 17B1003 here with the Spotlight and Safari crashing issue after reboot.
Booting from a clean backup did not help, either, surprisingly. Also, the reboot was unintentional - the circuit breaker tripped when the vacuum cleaner was turned on. So I initially thought the problem was with hardware. But doing the integrated Apple Diagnostics (pressing D after boot) did not reveal any issues. Feeling strange, I searched the web and... found this thread.
The two security patches were applied. Even tried installing manually. No good.
Tried deselecting all Spotlight indexing items, and excluding all drives. Still no good. Tried deselecting search-related options on Safari. Didn't help. Booting to safe mode? Same.
Oh, and indeed this only happens with the primary account. Guest account does not have this issue.

Not a great couple of weeks for Apple. This is really bad. Crippled systems galore.
Curious? Are AFS and HFS users experiencing the same issue? I have a Fusion iMac so I’m still HFS and am having this. I was able to resolve this by setting a ROOT password. Something I have never done before in 15-years of Mac usage.

To note, my affected system (iMac 21.5" 2017) is running APFS. Curiously, my other system (MacBook Air 11" 2012), also on APFS, is doing just fine.
Wait, the issue just cleared itself up after about 6 hours of non-stop crash-fest. I'm afraid to reboot, but at least the flickering Spotlight icon is no more, for now.

Had this issue as well.
With me it stopped after some dialog box stating something about restoring window yada yada . . .
It had two options something in the line of "do not restore" and "restore" I clicked the first and after that it was over.
Rebooted again to check. And still good to go.

Recheck your console. While visually the issue seems to be fixed, there seems to be a lot going of activity going on in the app.

Closed the lid on my 2017 MacBook Pro last night, in disgust, with spotlight and safari still crashing. This morning I decided to try enabling root user and creating a PW. However, before I did anything, I suddenly realized spotlight was no longer crashing. Opened Safari and it's fine too.
So, no idea what was truly behind this problem (other than it being something about the 2nd Apple security update), and absolutely nothing I did would fix it. But, I leave it alone for the night and now it's fine. This is one of the weirdest Mac problems I've seen. I hope it magically resolves for everyone else too.

Apparently the "Month 13" error is something else entirely. It seemed have been a minor issue in the weeks before, but it blew up full-scale when we entered December. High Sierra is one hell of an OS.

Me too. Last night Safari was crashing. This morning, working fine. Didn't really do anything between last night and this morning. Weird.
Anyone else have iTunes crashing as well? Safari and spotlight are fine, but ITunes crashes at least once after its open.
