I'm just glad apple didn't add NFC - i hate that idea...i've heard you don't need to add pin to make a payment - what if your phone is stolen and made the payment fast before you find out?
Again some1 will make another device which can tab on your back pocket in public area without you knowing it?
I really had enough this fight between Apple and Samsung, simply you cant force people to buy this product just because it had more stuff then other - it is real childish!! let people decided what's best for them.
Sometimes I think the people on this forums are all cranky old men shaking their sticks at those damn kids and their new fan-dangled thing. And just like those old men in my mind they don't know jack about technology. All your concerns about NFC is unfounded. If you have a recently issued mastercard chances are you already have NFC payment solution in your pocket.
Ok google wallet works just like mastercard paypass. Which is NFC based but there are security features as follows:
1) The transaction is protected cryptographically. So someone trying to read your phone or your paypass enabled master card is going to have to first successfully crack the mastercard encryption key. Which is not impossible. However, the key etc on the app is much easier to update than on the card which has to be replaced.
2) There is a (in canada) 40 or 50 dollar limit to paypass transaction. So if someone steals your credit card (or your phone without a lockscreen code and google wallet PIN) they can only charge 50 bucks at most via NFC. If someone steals your credit card you are in much worse position anyhow as they can use the info on it to go online to buy much more than 50 dollars of stuff. And as for google wallet THERE IS A PIN. So it's actually safer than your plain old credit card. Not hard really credit cards are extremely unsafe if you think about it.
3) You are not liable for fraudulent transaction on your credit card. I have had my Visa info stolen before. All you have to do is sign a form and the credit card company takes care of all the fraudulent charges.
The reason why Apple doesn't have NFC yet is because Apple hasn't figure out how to build an NFC system that stacks the monetary advantage their way. The longer they wait the less likely that's going to happen as well. Both VISA and Mastercard already have their own NFC systems with Mastercard having taken a lead in Canada (although both systems are basically interoperable)
