I've been using 1Password since the first version. For years, I synced my devices manually, partly because of restrictions on my office computer. I also resisted switching to the subscription model, but eventually gave in a few years ago when I set up a family account. Like many other posters, I use 1PW for much more than passwords, including storing pics of driver licenses, passports, and other credentials. The ability to keep separate vaults for items only relevant to me and shared with my wife synced across several computers and phones is well worth the $60 annual cost to me.
I get why subscriptions are often unpopular. But I have no choice for some of my software, like Adobe. For others, like Quicken, the model lets the developer release regular updates with new features and more reliable connectivity to financial institutions.
If Apple ever provides a single app that does everything 1Password does, I'll consider changing, but I don't think that will happen.
