I’m taking my 14 back and going back to my 12 pro max I’m hoping on 15 better telephoto.
Much better off for sure and why waste the money unnecessarily … 15 will be much better camera phone among other things

My 11 pro held me through since 2019 until now when I just got the 14 pro max. If there is a significant enough upgrade that is a must have for me, I’ll definitely catch you on the 15

Otherwise, my 14 pro max will carry me through the next 3 years hopefully

We in the same boat with my exact thoughts as well.

I have owned every iPhone except iPhone 7 (iPhone 6S plus was probably one of the best iPhones made for the longevity cycle in my opinion).

But I enjoy my iPhones. So can’t put a price tags on enjoyment. If it doesn’t hurt you financially. Enjoy what you like. Women spend money on beauty products yearly costing a lot more than iPhones. People spend money on alcohol.

It all comes down to personal decision. If you can afford it. Buy what you want.

I don’t think the 14 pro max is a big upgrade. We all know that.

For the general public. 2 or even 3 year cycles is becoming the norm. I just upgraded my 12 year old son iPhone 11 to the 14 pro 6.1. He wa fine with his 11 but the battery was getting bad on his 11. So it was good bang for the buck for $800/36 payment credits to get iPhone 14 pro for him.

I just pay full price for my iPhones and trade it to apple. It’s roughly a $30/month lease for me yearly.

12 pro max…still good and no upgrade needed….it’s a 3 year cycle at min now….see you at 15 ultra..should be time be then.
I think you’ll go 5 years - That’s my plan for my 13. Its predecessor, the 8 Plus, went four. iPhones are that good, imho.

You could very well be right…who knows…my disclaimer is that it will be 3 years minimum at least….could be longer for even more smart money

It seems like these type threads are usually made solely seeking co-signs from other posters. If you choose not upgrade, that's fine. However, there's no need to suggest that those who did wasted their money. It's a non sequitur, if we're being honest, because it's only really a waste if the purchaser deems it to be.

This term "smart money" is purely subjective. I don't think anyone here is in a position to question why someone spends their money a certain way, especially having no clue what their financial situation is like. That's why a lot of posters assume these topics largely stem from jealousy or the constant need for reassurance.

  • USB-C port
  • "Pill" display cutout in place of the notch on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
  • Under-display Touch ID fingerprint scanner
  • A17 chip, manufactured using a 3nm fabrication process
  • Periscopic telephoto camera,
Apple is never going to make 2 big changes in single year. I dont think both USB-C and Under display Touch ID fingerprinter scanner will be part of 15 pro's, May be one feature at most

It’s so cute reading posts about people trying to outdo each other when it comes to gapping upgrades. Every three years every five years every seven years! See you at 15, 16, 17, 18!

I sell my phone every year because it’s going to have the greatest resale value before the keynote so I just jump on the next one. I’m on Mac rumors because I’m a tech enthusiast. If I wasn’t I wouldn’t bother hanging out here. It’s no fun to me to just talk about it. I have To buy it and live it.

So the people who just come here to talk about how they’re still on their iPhone 8 gives me zero interest or pleasure to read about. Lol
What’s even more cute is people that say they have zero interest - posting! 😂

The problem with 15 is it will be the last of the iPhone 12 form factor before a major refresh.

We know that it will continue with the Dynamic Island. This means no major changes. The 16 will use under display cameras.

This is an interesting idea to parse. I began to try to think of two "big changes" that happened in a single year to iPhones. Of course that term itself is debatable. What is a "big change"? Did every new model of iPhone usher in a "big change?"

In my mind, a "big change" (I'll stop using the quotes now) is something that brings an ability to the iPhone that we didn't have before, in any native fashion. Pro Motion, for example, is something a lot of people love, but I wouldn't call it a big change: I had a screen before, of the same size, and I could read all the same things. Pro Motion made it BETTER, in some ways, but I don't consider it a big change. So I thought, what would be all the big changes in the history of the iPhone?

--iPhone 2G: the iPhone now exists
--iPhone 3G: third-party apps
--iPhone 3GS: video recording
--iPhone 4: retina display*
--iPhone 4S: Siri
--iPhone 5: larger display*
--iPhone 5S: Touch ID
--iPhone 5c: colored chassis*
--iPhone 6: plus size*, Apple Pay
--iPhone 7 plus: multiple cameras
--iPhone 8: wireless charging
--iPhone X: Face ID
--iPhone 14 pro: Superfluid Atoll

*The ones I've marked here are the ones that feel like they are the least "big". But I feel that the retina display was a huge breakthrough. Anyone that was using iPhones back then remembers just what a huge leap that was. We went from a feeling of "pixels under glass" to "pixels ON glass". I think the increases in display size are fundamentally important, even though "hey, I had a display before and now I still have a display, how big could that possibly be?" With the 6 plus it was the breakthrough: the iPhone was never again limited in screen size. I don't consider the mini's size to be a big change in that users could still buy a smaller phone in the SE 2020 (the mini is a technological wonder, but I don't feel it gave us anything fundamentally new). I've counted the 5c's color palette here, again as something that broke free of a mold, but a lot of people will certainly reasonably disagree.

Anyway...you may be right, there isn't a single year where an iPhone came out with two fundamentally big changes in the same year, except perhaps the 6. On the potential 15, I don't think that either of the features you're describing is "big" in the way I'm framing it. I already power my phone with a wire. That it's now USB-C instead of Lightning barely moves the needle. And an under-display fingerprint sensor would be cool...but we've had Touch ID in the past, this is nothing new.

(I do consider the Morphing Key to be a fundamental change, but again, that's something reasonable people can disagree with.)

So this has been a long way of saying, "Yeah, you're right, Apple doesn't bring out two big features in the same year!

Happy with my regular 13. Next time you see me in my local Apple store will be to pick up my new iPhone 45 XXX Ultra Atomic, with built in teleporting and free lightspeed travel.

The iPhone 45 with a 30 inch screen and foldable down to other size of a stamp. I’ll wait for the 46.

Periscope will take a lot of room. The obvious offset is from the now empty SIM tray area. If this is the case, does that mean the international models will not have periscope? Or will the trade-off be somewhere else, I wonder.
More “sim-tray less” phones in more countries. No USB C on ultra model but may have some flush multi-prong access to a desktop.

It’ll be very awkward to have an Ultra phone that has the best camera, with the most potential for Pro usage, and not having USB-C. Especially when it’s required in the EU.

Smart Connector is nice, but doesn’t comply with the requirements. And I don’t think that has high transfer speeds either. Isn’t it only used for keyboard so far?

Ok, then how about this:

The reason only Keyboards is because of Apple’s proprietary nature with the connecter - so - may as well use this instead of lightening and USB C! It’s either being used with magsafe or it could be an extra inlet that may not actually be considered a “port”.

However there may be big bucks with this magnetic port - so Apple probably looking into this with glee…
