No and no. If there were any real news on an iPad update, this would have been on the front page of EVERY gadget and Apple blog.

Apple already makes an iPad mini, its called an iPod touch. The iPod touch has a front facing camera, retina display, smaller form factor, it weighs less and is much thinner and easier to hold.

Just what everyone wants the iPad to be, the iPod touch is.

Oh, I´m pretty sure there will be an update before long. My question is regarding the possbility of a 7".

At the moment there is no solid news on any kind of update. iPad v1 is selling very well and Apple tends to concentrate its resources on just a few projects at a time, so don't hold your breath.

Sorry to put this up again, but does anyone have anymore news about this?
Answer: Yes. There will be a 7" iPad within 3 months.
(because afterall, every time people post a question like this they are looking for an affirmative answer. I'm just giving them the answer they want.)

Hold your breath for over 9000 minutes and you shall see a 7" iPad.

If they release a 7inch ipad they will be competing with themselves. people won't know whether to buy a touch or an ipad mini. which will only have about $100 difference. and its awkward for typing. and it will make it more annoying for developers to make apps for 3 different screen sizes. must i list more reasons why it wont happen?

He didn't ask about the status of any "iPad Mini". You just made that up yourself. He was asking about a 7 inch iPad. Or, to put it in your terms an "iPod Maxi". :p

I can't see wanting a smaller screen for the iPad.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I love the Internet. Some idiot somewhere posts that he's heard, in this case, a 7" iPad is coming and off we go. People start acting as if if God just handed the tablets to Moses, start speculating on time frames and even funnier holding off on buying one now.

Exactly. In fact, I find it funny the the OP specifically asks if anyone has heard "any more" news about the 7" iPad as if there was any news at all to begin with!

And if you go by speculation and pure rumors, there is more evidence that a 7" iPad is NOT coming out than there is to say it will. And don't even get me started on a pre-Christmas 2010 update, it's not gonna happen...

Just buy the existing iPad and enjoy it like the rest of us are, or stop trying to justify not buying one because you can't afford it.

Everyone forgets that before April 2010, a 1.5 lb. tablet with a 10" screen and 10 hour battery with 132 PPI was revolutionary. Now it's "too big" or not good enough barely even 6 months later. :)

BTW: Do you think a Retina display is more likely in a smaller screen model?

No. No one manufactures a retina screen at 7" in size and if it did it would require too high a resolution if scaling of apps was to work. 2048x1536. This would also require a lot more graphical power. Besides which it simplydoesnt exist so it's all irrelevant.

The 7" size will be very popular, and that's why Apple is in the process of completing theirs. It's only a matter of time before we see it.

Sooner rather than later is the rumor. I will be ready. My full size iPad in fine at home, but dreadful to take out when I travel. Six months from now... just watch how many of the competitors will have theirs on the market. There is a lot of interest in this size.

Obviously you have never used a magazine or laptop before if you think iPad is "dreadful to take out when I travel."

OMG a device with 10 hour battery! Sooooo dreadful...

No. You are making this stuff up, and it isn't helpful.
