The 7" size will be very popular, and that's why Apple is in the process of completing theirs. It's only a matter of time before we see it.

Sooner rather than later is the rumor. I will be ready. My full size iPad in fine at home, but dreadful to take out when I travel. Six months from now... just watch how many of the competitors will have theirs on the market. There is a lot of interest in this size.

Dreadful? Really??? Cue the strings...

Obviously you have never used a magazine or laptop before if you think iPad is "dreadful to take out when I travel."

OMG a device with 10 hour battery! Sooooo dreadful...

First of all, show me Apple's acknowledgment that one is coming?

Second, I was talking to a friend yesterday that's thinking about getting one, and he asked about it's size I told him "With the case, it's about the six of a National Geographic." if that's too dreadful, you must be a weak little man. :D

Full size?? dude its not a mbp, its a 10 inch tablet. thats as small as a tablet should be. i dont even think 7inch devices should qualify as tablets, theyre more like annoyingly oversized smartphones. and i would rather browse the internet and read books on a 10 inch screen. you should look into the dell streak though, if that size interests you. it also works as a phone, yet they still call it a tablet. and its only $299 with a 2 year contract with AT&T. how lovely!

There is definitely not going to be a 7'' iPad, it would mean that once again there would be a gap between iOS devices.
Developers would have to update once again their apps and most likely 90% of them would not do it as seen on the iPad.

It took Apple about 5 months to release 4.0 for iPad, imagine what it would take them to re-make it for a 7'' iPad.

There is NO way Apple will release a 7'' iPad when the current one is selling so good.

However unlikely, there are only two ways Apple will do this. Either use a 7" 960 x 640 screen or a 7" 1024 x 768 screen. Neither would be a true Retina Display, but those are the ONLY solutions which wouldn't alienate their developers.

I find it hilarious how Apple fanboys living within the confines of the dictatorial Apple Eco System are so cut off from reality. Unable to remain up to date on what's going on in the tech sector has got to be boring. No wonder there's petty name calling. Once Apple releases the 7" iPad the naysayer fanboys will do what they do best. Bow to their leader, line up like lemmings with money in hand to buy the next world changing fruity device.

I really like what you are saying...do you have a newsletter or manifesto I can subscribe to?

This post is one big assumption. You know what they say (or perhaps you don't) about assumptions.

How do you know what else I carry?
How do you know where I'm going?
How do you know?

....... ha...ha... ha... thanks for the laugh :)

Pot, kettle.

I think another formfactor for a second iPad is a very intelligent move.
Because it would have a higher range of consumers. For the iPhone or iPod Touch it doesn't matter that much, because even a bigger size would not bring a much greater range. (yes money, thats all apple cares about and releases their devices, not to make people happy) Although I prefer 3.5" i would love to see a 4".

7" however seems too small for me so the same iPad iOS can be used on a screen this size. It would definitely be the smallest possible screen size for the iPad iOS, but I think it's too small. Just cut it out on a pice of paper and use your imagination. Apple will not bring another appstore compatible device on the market with a whole new iOS, if so they would have done it with the ATV.

But I hope there is going to be an 8" which is much lighter and a hundred bucks cheaper. This would sell even better than the iPad and the whole tablet market would be taken over by apple as the market leader for another couple of years.

For everyone wanting a 7" iPad because the 10" is just too big to carry around, how are you going to carry around the 7"? In a backpack/briefcase/shoulderbag? Just like you would the 10", because you sure as hell won't be able to put the ********* in your pocket at 7".

Seriously people. Quit complaining about the size. It's not that big. It's freaking skinny as hell, easy to get in and out of a bag and is the perfect size for reading books/magazines/documents.

You're weird, and not in a "funny guy who's the life of the party" kind of way. More of a creepy, "bet his baseball cap is lined with tinfoil" kind of way.

It was definately not my intention to start a thread that spurred so many sour comments. What´s up with that?

I genuinely hope there will be a 7" version. I have no reason to speculate there will be, other than the rumors we´ve allready heard.

What does seem likely though, is that there will be a new generation of spec improved iPads released early in 2011. Could there be a smaller version there as well?

P

If Apple comes out w/a 7", someone is sure to complain about it as either being too big, or too small.

Apple can't please everyone, and considering the success of the iPAD, they have done a great job in it's design. Most people appear to be happy w/it's size. Heck, the thing is smaller than an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. :D

All signs point to no 7".

We would have heard about the displays being sourced by now.

Honestly, the iPad is a perfect size, and anytime it's not appropriate, the iPhone or Touch serves just fine as a pocket device.

What bag will the 7 fit in that the current iPad won't? What pocket, beyond a big overcoat or cargo pants, will house a 7 comfortably?

The 7 just doesn't make sense.

That's what I was trying to say. It makes no sense to make another in between device for the current in between device. If you stuck on getting one because of it's size, the device as a whole probably doesn't have a place in your household or business. Just my 2 pesos.

If they release a 7inch ipad they will be competing with themselves. people won't know whether to buy a touch or an ipad mini. which will only have about $100 difference. and its awkward for typing. and it will make it more annoying for developers to make apps for 3 different screen sizes. must i list more reasons why it wont happen?

7 inch display ? I don't think so. But I didn't see them ruinning... I mean changing the Nano like they did. However, if you did a 7 incher at 1024x768, it would run the current ipad apps natively.

This would of course start new forum threads on how the ipad's display seems lackluster compared to the new models almost retina display.

I don't think either of those options are particularly good simple solutions. A 7" iPhone 4 screen would result in JUMBO size iPhone Apps while a 7" iPad screen would result in small iPad Apps.

The ideal world solution to this would be resolution independence so developers could define their interfaces in physical units (ie. mm and inches). I don't know now close iOS is to this however the existence of the FullForce jailbreak App shows that some work has been done towards this.

Honestly I want a 15inch ipad. Gimmie the 15inch mbp in a tablet form factor and I'm there. I want a touch computer not a mobile device. Who's with me?

More than likely, it will around March or April of next year. Competitors are coming out and are aiming to compete with sequel, since they are late to the game. So, it would be advantage for Apple to release the iPad 2 next year at its annual date. Hopefully, Apple will suprise us with something new, other than retina display, facetime, two cameras. Maybe 2-D to 3-D movies?

TechCrunch is with you, http://techcrunch.com/2010/02/01/apple-tablet-os-x-ipad/

But the information we’re hearing is that Apple is thinking much larger for another version of the product, maybe all the way up to the 15.4″ size that it currently uses for one version of the MacBook Pro.

10 inch iPads are for pu$$ies. I need 17 inches with Retina Display. And while you're at it :apple:, I want an iPhone the size of the new Nano. ;)

After seeing what a 7" display looks like with the Samsung device, I am increasingly in the "no 7" iPad camp."

First, I just don't see how it fits in the pricing rubric for Apple. The iPod touch goes up to $399 and the iPad starts at $499. I suppose you could argue for a single model at $449, but it blurs the picture too much.

Second and more importantly, the size is just too awkward. You could put a high enough resolution in the 7" to run all current iPad apps like keynote, pages, mail, omnigraffle, etc, but I think the physical size would render these useless. The keyboard would be really cramped and would be a less than great experience.

I just go back to the announcement of the iPad when Jobs made the case for the 3rd device - it has to offer a better experience at some things or it has no reason for being.

I can imagine the same discussion in Cupertino taking place over this issue. Is a 7" tablet as portable and useful as a 3.5" tablet? Is it as capable as a 9.7" tablet? Does it offer anything demonstrably better than the iPod touch or iPad?

I personally don't see how they make the case.
