check Apples forum and the amount of people complaining about iPhone 15 models with burn in is very telling and it's not just a few. Apple isn't even helping some people after restoring the iOS proves its a physical hardware issue.

There's absolutely no way that level of burn-in has happened with "normal" use.

Clearly, the Home Screen has been left on for hours and hours, possibly at high brightness.

I haven't been following this thread much, but have you tried running a burn-in fix on maximum brightness? There's loads on YouTube.
I tried the 2 most popular ones for iPhones, but burn in can't be fixed with software. It's a physical OLED panel image(s) burn in and needs replacement. I ended up getting a brand new iPhone replacement from Apple after some respectable arguing.

It was a iPhone 15 Pro Max using AOD and screen timeout was and still is set to default 30 seconds. It was just a faulty OLED panel, because after 5 months the two battery widgets and my wallpaper font burned into the panel. The Apple Genius told me it's very rare and OLED panels with AOD shouldn't burn in with only 5 months use. My screentime for the phone is less than 3 hours too. So it was just bad luck and not the home screen being left on just the default AOD. I was guessing with the Apple Store workers that maybe pixel shifting should help in the next iOS update and also maybe every time I was getting a notification the AOD lights up briefly than dims after a few seconds. I was saying it shouldn't brighten up and stay dim unless a face is detected and maybe the constant AOD going from dim to lighting up the screen back light every notification was a issue maker too.
Now I have AOD, no widgets and no wallpaper set with less than half brightness set at all times.

Like you say, all down to a faulty panel. It happens with LCD displays too, although that's usually called image retention, but it can still be an annoying issue and sometimes permanent.

My 15PM has screen burn in from the AOD, battery icon (the one with the white bar showing percentage). I’ve had this since launch. My once perfect screen now has a very faint, permanent bar on it.

I am fairly OCD, so from now on I’m not going to use AOD, not worth it for me. 🥹

No issues with any of my AOD iPhones (I upgrade every year) and always use Always On. The battery drain is minimal and I like the full color screen always on.
