I justified it by finding a way to use it at work, by taking notes on GoodNotes in meetings. Been doing that for 5 years now

That's what I expected. Thought I could use it for work. Didn't think I'd find another use. So far, I've not used it for work at all and have spent considerably more time than I would have guessed just drawing. I'm enjoying it more than expected.

I've wanted a pencil for years, but I'm not an artist, a student or someone who takes a lot of notes. I couldn't honestly think of a good enough reason to pick one up.

Last week I was in a class where the teacher was drawing on the presentation and white boarding things out for us. Finally I found a justification for getting a pen. Went down that day and picked one up.

I've had it for nearly a week. Still haven't found a good white boarding app or found a good time to use it for work. But I moved from Notes to Sketchbook to Procreate in less than 24 hours.

I'm still not an artist, but I'm having a blast playing around doodling and stuff. I guess I should have picked up a pencil years ago like I wanted to.
I'm not an artist either (I just doodle for fun), but I really enjoy using the Pencil, it adds a new dimension to the iPad's utility. In addition to GoodNotes, as Precursor mentioned, you may also want to take a look at Notability, and also at the Concepts app.

Tbh, the more I used it for work, the more useful the whole machine has become. I started using Scanner Pro to scan documents, PDF Expert to edit and sign documents etc. Even in iOS mail app you can view a PDF document, sign and send it without leaving the mail app. It is a really useful machine if your work particularly involves a lot of documents. I also love that I can search my handwritten tools from 5 years ago in GoodNotes (GoodNotes has that feature). The only reason I still had to have a laptop is due to company's proprietary windows software

For the first time I tried to draw something in Procreate (following this tutorial -
)

The result in the video is far superior than what I managed to do but I lack any talent when it comes to drawing so I did not expect miracles.

That's fantastic! I'm in the exact same spot as you. I'm not an artist, but I've been playing around. I followed that same tutorial and came up with this.

I never would have posted my crappy art, but seeing someone else posting theirs encouraged me to post mine. ?

Wow this is fantastic I am going to try! Well done!

EDIT: I tried for the first time today...I’m not an artist and the first time I got frustrated & gave up. I went out and tried again. It took me 3 hours but I’m happy to have done it!! Still far from the tutorial but for a complete beginner it’s very encouraging.

Teela Cunningham, Every-Tuesday.com, has some nice Procreate free tutorials in various styles (flat, watercolor, sketch) as well as some courses (a free intro to Procreate, watercolor lettering and watercolor florals). I’m just playing around with some of the tutorials and did this one this morning. I’m not being deliberate or trying to do a great job, I’m mainly trying to get comfortable with the tools and I’m working on a Mini 5 because it’s less intimidating than the iPad Pro 11 for now. It was really easy and didn’t take all that long to do.
