I do wonder how widespread this issue is and would like to see others who are reading this thread to report their findings.

Thank you! :)
Saw someone started another thread, and everyone I’ve asked that I know that owns one has mentioned the edge is sharp on back. Oh well, 🤞 crossed I get lucky tomorrow.

just got my 15PM, back glass is smooth at the transition. Could be assembly issue with some units since now case back is removable.

That's great to hear. Although it means a trip to the apple store to exchange this thing. :(

Hopefully a few more people will chime in. Hoping our 2 phones are an anomaly. We did order our phones within the first 2 or so minutes, so perhaps we got some of the earliest phones out?

It’s in the tolerance guys. If you want to change, Apple would say "cosmetic".
Apple will allow an exchange, but up to a point, some are saying it’s perfectly smooth.
I’d suggest looking at the ones on display and verify that there are differences and make a final determination from there.

Heya I've got a white pro and the side with the lock button is quite sharp at the back, not very flush. Bit worried about water resistance. Just weighing up returning it and ordering again

Curious if color makes any difference. Maybe people can post their specs of the phones that are affected and area where the cheese grater is most prominent, to try to see if there is any pattern.

Mine is:

Model: iPhone 15 Pro Max
Carrier: Unlocked
Capacity: 1TB
Color: White
Effected Areas: back of phone, lower left (opposite side of the volume/action buttons) is worst area

White Titanium 256GB USA model, is completely smooth all around. I’m guessing they had some bad batches and both your phones came from the same one.

From the friends I’ve spoken with so far, 5 smooth, 2 questionable, as in they said they could feel the edge, so the odds are looking in the favor of getting a good one. I bet build date would be a good indicator, maybe a bit of rushing to keep up with launch demand on some?

Just opened my white titanium Pro and it doesn’t have this problem, the glass transitions evenly to the edge of the titanium all the way round. I wouldn’t however say you can’t feel there are two different materials coming together but there is no sharp raised edge.

I would imagine we will see this issue being reported more and more as the new (more repairable) rear glass assembly is now installed separately during final assembly and minutest differences in adhesive/glass/band thickness can result in slightly raised glass that would probably go unnoticed and slightly sunken glass resulting in a sharp edge noticeable whilst holding.
I confirmed this. I did not feel and see the glass and titanium transition issue on my white titanium.

I definitely feel the sharp edge on my Natural Titanium PM. If I hold it screen down in my hand it feels really smooth and I’m guessing this is how the back should feel also, it’s back in the box for now. I’ll need to go and see how others feel at the Apple Store to see if this is “normal” or not. Noticed it as soon as I unboxed though.

Disappointing to hear they have some bad build quality out there. So far every exchange has reported no issues, I’ll be updating what I get tomorrow. Really hoping not to deal with this, as last year got a half pink screened 14pm and that exchange took FOREVER

I can feel it too on 15 Pro in NT. Front is smooth and back has an edge to the surround. It’s not going to cut me, but I feel it handling it caseless (my preference). I can live with it but it’s one of those where, once you know it’s there…

I watched this youtuber from Switzerland a few days ago. He also mentioned the sharp edges between the glass and the titanium. At 6:30 minutes.

I came to post this. One important note from his video: He said a similar problem exists on his titanium Apple Watch (not Ultra). He thinks it's because of the slightly different tolerances of titanium machining vs aluminium and stainless. I think he's probably right, it's NOT because of the changes made to the back glass otherwise it wouldn't affect the Apple Watch too.

Why is everyone reporting the front glass to be perfectly smooth on edges? It’s the same different tolerances of glass and titanium, which makes it even more frustrating that they are not getting the back right.

I had that issue in the iPhone 4/5 days with the front glass. I used a nail file to “sand” the edges down at the time, worked great. 😀
