I remember there being a few. Let me check what I’m using and I’ll updated this post.

Ok. So I used homebridge-chamberlain

https://www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-chamberlain

I remember now selecting this one because you don't have to mess with ApplicationID and it's just a little simper to set up than home bridge-myq as a result.

Testament to how stable all this is: I couldn't even remember the directory I installed it in on the Pi. I just never have to touch it!

Awesome! Now I need to get me some Raspberry Pi or a MacMini so the Homebridge won’t disengage every time my iMac goes to sleep.

Sorry for the detour everyone!

I have mine running on my iMac. I’ve set mine so the screen sleeps only. Works great as long as my parter doesn’t sign me out when she signs in. Then I run a launchagent so it autostarts after crash or reboot.

This is small and pales by comparison to some of you techies, but I used Shortucts to execute a series of reminders for when I cook certain meals (when to preheat oven, when to get the stuff into the oven, when to start cooking certain parts of the meal). I made a Siri reminder and widget called “Pasta Protocol”. Now I just have to do one thing instead of setting up the same series over and over every time I cook.

And this is precisely the kind of labor-saving that Shortcuts is meant to help enable. I don't think this is small at all.

I think this is the genius of Shortcuts:

The ability to create repeatable tasks for Siri to execute with the push of a button, or utterance of a phrase.

I requested access to the Shortcuts app on Friday, nothing yet - anyone know if they're still handing out invites? I do have a paid Developer account, and am running the iOS 12 dev bet, if that matters.

I heard a second round of invites went out over the weekend. Hang in there!

Shortcuts beta 2 is now available. Not sure what's new though.
I got that notification from TestFlight also, but then when I got there, there was nothing to update. It just said "Open". Might have been a glitch, as I think the version we have been using was version 2.0 (with Workflow as the 1.x version).

Having used workflow and app launcher together I have been able to achieve a number of automated actions based on location.....Siri integration was the last piece in the puzzle....I can now ask Siri to navigate to work, and she plays my playlist, opens Waze, set work location and off I trot.

Next step would be to allow shortcuts into apps (which are currently limited to URL links) as an example this would allow actions such as controlling and setting a specific alarm time in a third party alarm (Sleep) compared to currently only being able to open the the app.

Argh where is my email hah. I keep checking the dev portal every day, still just shows greyed out "Requested"

Have you checked your spam folder? The email shows as coming from "TestFlight" but the associated email address is "no_reply@email.apple.com". Also, check the Test Flight app. The email's only function was to tell me to go there to download it.

oh dang ok, awesome, thanks - I will do this as soon as I get home, about to hit the road back! Here's hoping!

Edit: update, nothing :(

How do we actually update to 2.0? When I went into TestFlight, it only show open but nothing to update?

One thing I don’t love about shortcuts is how they always launch the workflow app where you see it processing the workflow step by step.

Do you think Apple will ever make these shortcuts run I the background with maybe a status bar notification instead of taking over the screen?

For example after running “speak body of article” via the share sheet:

The new app still does that? I was really hoping/expecting that workflows are processed in the background now that Apple itself has (re-)developet the app... thats really disappointing

It runs in the background when using Siri. I don’t mind seeing it in the app or share sheet. But that’s just me

I've also been playing around with the Shortcuts app.

However I have an issue I can't seem to resolve. I have a shortcut that should send my wife a text to say I'm on my way and then open google maps and give me directions home.

However it won't go past the first step until I physically click the send button for the message. I can't seem to work out how to get past this. Even if I shift the message to the last part of the shortcut it still sits on the iMessage screen waiting for me to hit the send button.

Is this a limitation because it's a beta and it won't work like Apple's demo? Or is it not possible for it to send the message? I would have thought it could auto send due to the auto message when using do not disturb whilst driving.

Damn, this is a big thing for me. I was really hoping now it was first party it could do things like that automatically rather than require input. A real shame if that’s the functionality and not a bug. You say the Apple demo had it without confirmation? I’ll have to watch that.

I'm sure they demo'd it sending a message with no other interaction. I could be wrong though.

Remember: it’s an early build. I’m sure this functionality will appear.
