If that's all you're basing your situation on, then you have little understanding of reality. Just because Steve says "go" doesn't mean it's going to suddenly be profitable. Check out the Lisa or the hockey puck mouse. Not very good products for their time.

Look at what Apple offers: hardware and software. Every company focuses on a core set of products. Take a look at what Jobs and Cook stated yesterday. They are looking for acquisitions, not building from the ground up:

Where do you see a telecommunications business fitting into that portfolio? What do you think will happen to the stock price if Apple announced this? I would venture to say the stakeholders would not be happy in the least as there's too much risk for too little return in profit. Take a look at other wireless providers; they are charging less and less all the time.

you're wrong.

does anyone know anything about final cut express?

I can't get my final cut capture to capture my audio from my video camera. Does anyone here use Final Cut Express. I can capture my video from the camera, but the audio files are not coming through. You can hear the sound when the capture is underway, but afterwords, when the clip is placed on the timeline there is no audio file. Any suggestions?

i think you're confused. im not saying Apple should compete with AT&T, Verizon, etc.

the 4G network or Free nationwide/city-wide wifi I was talking about is a "complementary" service exclusively for iPhone and iPad users.

now whether or not thats financially viable or practical or whatever is not my concern...

my concern is the user experience. another standby 3G/4G or Wifi connection will greatly benefit iPhone and iPad users.

How? Wifi is only good for data. Where is Apple going to get access that is not already cellular based? All of those systems you quote are based on other companies infrastructure and are served by companies better suited to serve them.

OK, Apple provides Wi-Fi. Where are they going to get the service? Unless you want to go with another cellular provider, you have to buy it from somebody... Only problem becomes geography which is only segmenting a small market as it stands. How can APple afford this - that kind of stuff costs money and its going to have inherent limitations. And it won't be free no way.

And this already ignores the political and legal challenges that go into this. Why would Apple bother?

How much government red-tape would they have to go through and billions? Really this not an area Apple wants to go in unless they are really itching to spend their cash pile.
