I'm quite surprised none of you even slightly thought Google had reason to be concerned. I really thought boards like this were made of people who had a little more understanding of the industry. ;)

READ HERE

flex its muscles to do what exactly ? google gives Samsung android for FREE,what exactly is google afraid of?that Samsung bans google search engine and uses yahoo in android and hardlocks android to not use google servers for any searching,or locks out the android play store so people with Samsung phones cant buy anything that brings in some cash to google.

Go read what open source stands for and try to figure out that android is free and open for anyone to use, heck even apple could put it on an iphone if it wanted to.

do you want to know what google is afraid of? if Samsung decides to use windows mobile on there GS4 and not use android, they would crap themselves if Samsung stopped using android for there flagship phones and the gs4 is projected to break 100 millions sales in its life span in production, that is a hell of a lot android phones that Samsung is about to sell and google wants every single one of those using its OS

You can dl a gapp for your Samsung because google play recognizes that phone as a licensee device and allows the USER free access, because the OEM has already paid.

Google pays OEMs and carriers a total of 40% of their traffic acquisition costs (TAC) on Android devices. Google pays Samsung, it's not the other way around.

The devices where this happens are the Android devices with the Play store.

It would be worrying for Google if Samsung's Galaxy lineup made a sudden transition to Tizen. Tizen runs all the Android apps, has a more stylish UI and keeps all traffic inside Samsung's ecosystem (music store, app store etc).

If Google's most successful partner - indeed the only successful Android vendor - turns out to have used their partner to rise to the top and then promotes their Tizen handsets as a superior competitor to Android, that is a massive blow to Google. Just as Samsung turned on their closest partner Apple (Apple is Samsung's largest customer), they might do the same to Google.

However, Samsung just unveiled the Galaxy Note 8, which runs Android. I think it's safe to assume that the Galaxy S4 phone will also continue to run Android. It doesn't look like Tizen handsets from Samsung will be the flagship volume handsets this year anyway.

Make no mistakes, there are no loyalties in business. That's just business. Motorola was purchased not only for patents, but as a fail safe for Google to make it's own hardware. If you're an Android vendor, there's reason to worry. So it's no surprise Samsung followed up quickly by taking up Tizen. Samsung is in perfect position to introduce Tizen in it's handsets, that's a helluva lot of handsets and instant market share. In fact this is the reason I believe Tizen stands a better chance than any other OS outside of Android, iOS, and BB OS. Tizen's ability to run android apps is a massive plus. Apps matter. And I wouldn't be surprised if we see a Galaxy Tizen within the next 2 yrs.

Should Google be worried that Samsung is usurping them in being the 'Alpha Male' of the Android pack? To some degree. The "supposed" concern is that Samsung might eventually have enough Android platform power, influence and domination to flex its muscles .... thereby either skewing or fragmenting the Android platform to a direction where Samsung wants to it be (e.g. Tizen), rather than where Google wants it to be.

But I wouldn't read any more into this. Googles concerns would be minor at best.

NOW.... if 6 months from now, there is a sudden shocking tech news that has uncovered Samsung having secretly started its own in-house projects to develop SamVRGoggles, SamGlobal Maps, Samsung NetSearch Engine, and Samsung-Hyundai Future Self-Driving Cars, as well as a brand new free global email service that has borrowed 98% of the functionality and look and feel of GMail, but the project is named SMail..... then yes, I suppose Google should start crapping in their pants.

Happens all the time in the industry, I suppose. Just like how Bill Gates' Microsoft "used" their old partner IBM like a cheap hooker, and then threw her back into the streets.

Yes. Android is nothing without Samsung. That's a great deal of leverage to have, even the threat of turning to another OS should keep Google up at night with cold sweats.

Google's very strong & trading at a share price of $800. Unlike Apple the majority of Google's revenue does not come from just one product like Apple's does. Google has depth & breadth like never before. Like any other company they've got their issues, but being overly confident & complacent isn't part of the picture. Riding a wave of consumer confidence, in the midst of some milestone projects, Googles doing very well at the present.

Are you kidding me? Google relies on advertising revenue big time. Over 90% of their revenue is from advertising. Now tell me again how Google's revenue doesn't come from one product (advertising?)

Microsoft's cash cow for years has been Microsoft Office and not Windows as many people think.

Apple used to rely on iPod sales. Now it's iOS sales. iPhone revenue makes up over 50% of their profits and iPad another 20%.

Just remember Google has launch a lot of "beat" projects which they abandoned.

I don't know what the future of Android is. Could Samsung flex their muscles? I doubt it. Where's Samsung going to go? If they go Windows Phone 8, they will have to pay Microsoft licensing fees.

Samsung hasn't exactly been known to make exciting software. They can't do it on their own.

You've only revealed how little you know about Google.

I feel a lot of people are confusing Google with Android. Also I don't think a lot of people know how small of revenue comes from Android compared to there total revenue.

COULD Google be worried, sure. Just as much as I'm worried about a 25 cent pay cut an hour. Yeah, I wouldn't like it but its not the end of the world.
