OP not replied lol.

Must have returned their device and now stuck searching for stock with no device to post on here.

p.s I blame this forum for encouraging playing iPhone lottery every year lol.

On a more serious note:

Tim Cook actually does seem to take an interest in the little guy if you push his “hot button” and it has nothing to do with hardware sales. Be critical of their intellectual policies and actually have a solid argument - then yes, they won’t openly admit it; but strange things will happen to you in the walked garden that is Apple.

“Once happenstance. Twice coincidence. Three times - enemy action!”
Care to elaborate?

Hello. I desire for some advice on wether or not having an exchange for my newly purchased iPhone 14 Pro Max is worth it. I noticed a small minuscule scratch on the bottom left curve of the body. I’m not sure if it was there before I received it in-person at an Apple store or I had done it myself. The only incident I can remember is taking the device in and out of the clear protective case (also purchased from an official Apple store) to clean it. Mind you, I never bumped the phone into anything let alone had any sharp objects nearby (I only handled it softly in my hand). This incident occurred after owning the iPhone for literally two hours, I am not exaggerating. I have an OCD issue that has been giving me immense trouble knowing it is on the phone. I caused much stress for everyone around me because of myself becoming frustrated over it.

I purchased the iPhone on September 28th, 2022. Meaning I am under the 14-days-return-policy.

Below are attached screenshots of a conversation I had with an Apple specialist via iMessage. This person stated I could have the possibility of exchanging the phone for the exact same model in perfect pristine quality.
Hi OP, don’t worry about the lack of respect if some exhibit it. I have no advice for you though. Suddenly you’ll know what to decide, regardless well meant advice given to you by others. Now, if a scratched phone can be a reason for OCD to happen to you, would it not also be a chance for you to get over it? Again, I do not advice, I never do, I’m just sharing observations. Mind reports life. OCD is a conditioned mind reacting to another thought (formation) in the same mind. In no way different from ‘Oh what a beautiful scratchless phone’. Hence, OCD is in all of us with a spectrum from minimal to maximum. Just a matter of more or less. And when it is minimal we think we do not have OCD, which is not wrong, it’s just relative. And so would be the belief that we have OCD. A very important thing to understand, as far as I’m concerned: we are neither our thoughts nor our feelings and emotions (which are also just thoughts, stretched in time). Just watching the content of my mind suddenly happened, and now I’m fine, no matter what. Be happy, irrespective of your decision.

Maybe next time but I forgot one thing…

After I sent you that nasty letter about songwriter rights and iTunes and Apple Music policies that where being taken up by others because you are “Apple”; we noticed that our iTunes Connect account shows active but we are locked out. Would you care to elaborate on that?
GOOD MORNING!

I know nothing about this! You likely just logged into it wrong.

If you distribute music at Apple under a certain stage name but hold all the rights to the lyrics, composition and performance, Apple won’t let you withdraw and change the stage name. Even if you change the metadata. This was last year and this was Apple’s doing but others were starting to enact this policy because Apple started it.

This is just meddling and a reduction of intellectual property rights to all artists in the music realm. It’s too involved to go into here but big tech companies are over reaching into areas they should not!

I understand OP. I removed ”screen paper” from my new 14 pro max just to find out there is a small scratch in the screen.

It is not big, a size of dust particle. It does not affect normal use and I see it only when I choose to look at it and screen is in certain angle.

I share the feelings with OP and I have annoyed my close ones by talking about it. I think it would be easier if I caused it myself but now I constantly catch myself looking at the scratch. Everything else is fine: buttons are ”clicky” and firm, screen is nice, even and white without any dead or stuck pixels so I am using this and seeing if I can get rid of this nasty feeling. 🙂 But not a day goes by that I think of taking the risk and get a new phone. 😀

Just sharing, thanks for listening. 🙂

Some of you guys need real help, seriously. This is an every day, functional item. It is not a heirloom piece. It does not increase in value.

I honestly can't imagine how you could ever purchase a car, new or used. A car is much more expensive than an iPhone. A used car surely has wear when you get it, and even brand new ones come off the factory floor with imperfections greater than what you're describing here with an iPhone.
You're being very rude. The person clearly stated they had OCD. If you don't understand it, don't comment. Bringing others down doesn't lift you up.

If he was an admitted kleptomaniac and wanted to steal a iPhone 14, I'd also tell him to get help. Not encourage or justify his situation. Normalizing this behavior in a public forum is bad for everyone.

A tempered glass screen protector will cover it

Only seems to be Apple forums with the crazies, oh no my AirPods hinge wiggles too much, there’s a mark on my phone that I can only see with a magnifying glass and a torch!

How do these people cope buying a car or any other technology?

I don’t see Google or Samsung owners doing it.

Wouldn’t disagree with the “need help” comment, as those of us who deal with OCD Max (think I’ll patent that ) really can suffer such as the OP is in his situation. I know I have.

As far as ever buying a car, I would never purchase a car new again (I’m not a young man). The last time I did I kept that car as showroom pristine as humanly possible, only to feel destroyed emotionally every time I found a scratch or ding, etc. As much joy as I had with that vehicle it was also torture. Do not expect anyone who has never experienced this kind of extreme OCD to understand. But I bet more than a few people reading this will relate.

No. If you came here hoping to find a committee who would agree you should return a mass-produced item for a barely noticeable blemish, sorry to say you're out of luck.

There was a guy yesterday complaining his iPhone makes a hollow sound when he taps it.
They're everywhere.
And they're allowed to vote.

Because Google and Samsung phones are not desirable, they’re just mobile appliances lol. Jk, ish.

It’s too bad you didn’t look closely when first received, but I have seen a brand new phone arrive with a scratch or 2. I work for a phone repair shop, and we have a dust illumination lamp to install screen protectors. The moment I received an 11 pro max for my husband, I took the paper cover thing off under the lamp, and there were 2 minor scratches that were noticeable. Returned and got a new one. An item you spend 1k+ should come in perfect condition. So if you’re planning on using it with a glass protector the whole time, return it. If not, you’ll get scratches anyhow so don’t bother. I’ve also seen a brand new iPad with a spec of dust in between the glass and LCD panel. They’re human after all. It happens unfortunately.

Also, if you return it now, you’ll get a brand new one since it is too new for them to have refurbished units yet. They have some put aside for warranty.

OP says the scratch is on the body, not on the glass. I think OP means the frame.

As someone who actually has diagnosed OCD I totally get it, but OCD isn't helped by continually pursuing perfection. Part of my self-treatment is accepting slightly imperfect things to help desensitize myself. My new ipad had a tiny flaw in the screen glass, so tiny I had to shine the light right on it and squint to see it. Looked like a microscopic speck of glitter. Didn't impact the functionality and wasn't visible during use but I knew it was there and it bothered me. Did I return it? No, I slapped a screen protector on it and told myself it's not a big deal and the next one might be worse b/c these things are made by humans. Doesn't bother me anymore.

If it's a deep gouge out of the box that's one thing, but you WILL get scratches on the frame even with a case. My phone is never out of a case for longer than it takes to switch cases but still has scratches all over the frame. It's an inevitable part of owning a phone, if you return this one you will just get scratches on the next one too.
