I like the mStand too, and in the US it shows as being in-stock. I'll probably get one for the office.

It doesn't look like the mStand will do a much better job with cooling. I have th e iCurve and love it. The mStand is good for elevation but not necessarily cooling. My MBP is warmest at the back anyways so the mStand may not be so bad in the cooling regard depending on how far back the plate that the MBP is to sit on extends.

I agree the mStand is damn sexy, but the iCurve looks to be better at cooling. I still love my iCurve after all these years. Its been through 2 iBooks,
3 PowerBooks, 2 MacBooks and a Thinkpad or 2. It still amazes me how my laptop never slips off.

I am assuming you didn't go through that many computers because of overheating?!?!:D

I've been debating over the mStand or the Elevator. Elevator is cheaper but the mStand looks really cool.

Has anyone used one yet? I'm wondering if I can stash my keyboard under it and still use the kepboard, that would save a lot of space and bring the screen closer to my face. 13" screen seems small when you place an external and then the mStand in front of you.

does anyone like the mStand?

i like it alot just the price is alittle steep, and i have both a elevator and a icurve, the mStand seems like its not as practical as the others just looks prettty. :D

For the record, the iCurve and Elevator are two different products.

...But yes, I would get one of the two. They look much nicer than a pile of books. ;)

If that's the case it must have replaced the iCurve because when I click iCurve on their site it takes me to the Elevator product page.

On a funny note, it's apparently not compatible with Mac OS X 10.2 or lower. According to the compatibility list on the product page it says "Compatibility: Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.3 and Win XP." Sorry Vista users!!

I still like my three ring binder idea- pick your height- 1, 2 or 3 inches...even 4 if you like. Helps with cooling over books as there is very little between your sweet little Mac and the desk/table. And cheap to!

Looks sweet too! :)

I want to know why so many people getting the icurve instead of a cooling pad that comes with fan to increase airflow??

Is the cooling fan not useful? Or just lifting it up is good enough to prevent the macbook from getting overhead?

I want it so I can get the screen elevated, the heat isn't a problem for me.

Same here- I have bought a stand not for cooling, but for the elevation so my neck and shoulders stop hurting all the time from slumping over to read my little 12" iBook. I really need one for home to but dont want to be hauling out a stand, keyboard, etc everytime I want to surf at the kitchen table. That is why I use the three ring binder some.

The iLap (http://www.raindesigninc.com/ilap.html) has been mentioned before on other threads and seems to have a few fans.

Although it's rather pricey in the UK (double the US price I think), I especially like its portabilty.

Are there any other portable stands that people think it's worth having a look at?

I bought a Griffin Elevator at lunch from CompUSA. However, I had to look through several boxes to find one that looked like it was assembled correctly. The rubber strips on top of the arms that hold the laptop look like they should be put on straight, lined up with the arms, but most of the packages had at least one arm with the rubber strip very crooked. I guess this doesn't make a difference in performance, but it just looks like bad QA. Can't say that impresses me much.

The case shouldn't get hot enough to singe my skin or be really uncomfortable, but whatever.. I still enjoy using it.. on my desk :p

This is why they no longer call them laptops, they are always officially referred to as notebooks or portables.

There have been a number of manufacturers sued (toshiba is most recent that comes to mind) because their "laptops" were too hot to hold on your lap and caused burns. Also makes me wonder why if you are getting burned you wouldn't remove it from your lap.

Another solution....

I'd really like an iCurve but they're too expensive for my meager grad school wages.

I'm currently using some old SNES carts (FIFA '96, Super Soccer, and Super Wrestlemania:D )

I've got the height boost required to get some airflow and I've found a use for some carts that I'd otherwise never use (SS and SWM being two of the worst games ever...)

Can anyone show me the pic of how the stacks of book work? lol
And what about the binder??
