Has anyone purchased an m-stand yet?

Pics?

Heres a mini-review I did with pics. I'm based in Singapore so all prices are in SGD, simply divide by 1.5 to get it in USD.

I'm probably one of the few people that don't like the iCurve. I bought it last summer so I could bring it to school with me along with an Apple keyboard.

Upon getting it in the mail, I set it up and realized that it was slightly warped so my MBP wasn't level. I fixed the problem by shoving a piece of plastic under one of he sides of the iCurve. Once I had down that, I didn't really like the added height. I generally am slumped in my chair so I don't suffer from much neck strain as people who sit properly in their chairs.

Not to mention, after having been off to college for a year, I highly doubt that my MBP would have survived if it was on the iCurve, but our dorm was a mess.

I have thought of getting a new laptop stand that doesn't raise it off the desk quite as much, that would help me out a lot more.

Yeah, no neck strain, but your curved back will be looking for a chiropractor in a few years!!!

why not send the icurve back for a replacment? I am amazed at how many people don't send back defective products.

I would have if it had not been for an ill-conceived attempt at "bending" the iCurve into shape. As if anyone needs the ending to this story, my iCurve is now a two-piecer. :D

And in reference to my slouching, that's not what I do all the time, sometimes I'll lean on my desk and other various positions. I've always been one to sit at my desk in odd ways, that's just what I do. To each his own I guess, lol.

Ooooo, don't you hate it when something like that happens- you try to be a good person and just fix it and not have it sent to a dump for nothing and it breaks...then you have no real recourse. You could try sending an email to the company and just see what happens- it is such a good story you never know- they may send you a new one (one piecer!):D

Staying on the topic of bending stuff: Did anyone try to bend the mStand to change the angle? I've got 2 reasons for asking:

1. I've read reports of people saying that opening the MBP completely is still not sufficient to get the proper screen angle in combination with the mStand angle.

2. I would like to use the space under the mStand to store my Roland SPD-S which is 8cm high, when not in use. Looking at the specs I believe the space under the mStand is approx. 6cm high in the front. Which means I would need to slide the SPD-S under from the side, which is not very convenient in my desk setup.

Thus, if I'm able to change the angle of the mStand by bending it, I would be able to solve both problems and have the better looking stand.

Indeed there is a very portable stand, the xt-stand. I have one and use it at home and at work. It's built like a tank and is a breeze to setup. I also have an iCurve but actually prefer using the keyboard on my 17" MBP to any external keyboard. That's where the xt-stand shines. With the back "feet" fully extended the screen is raised considerably. I also have an iLap which I use whenever I'm not sitting at my desk. It's a very good product as well.

The iLap (http://www.raindesigninc.com/ilap.html) has been mentioned before on other threads and seems to have a few fans.

Although it's rather pricey in the UK (double the US price I think), I especially like its portabilty.

Are there any other portable stands that people think it's worth having a look at?
:(

one advantage that the elevator has over the icurve is that the elevator is "collapsable." it is made of 3 pieces and can be easily stored away when not in use.

however, reviews on amazon.com indicate that after a couple months, the macbook pros start sliding off. i haven't had a problem with it.

Thanks for that, looks good... I'll have a look if they sell them over here.

Although as I say the iLap isn't particularly cheap over here, but it would be something I would be using a lot and if it works well, I don't begrudge the money - well, not too much anyway!

That looks awesome!

Can you believe im still deciding between both. I'm inclined to get the Elevator but the sliding thing is a big no no. However i fear the mStand wont give the correct angle either it looks awesome but a tad bit low, which wouldn't be a problem with a Titanium powerbook but the opeining angle of the Aluminum PBs are significantly lower and its even worse on the MBPs

Might just get the mStand and if i dont like it i'll return it. The moveable parts of the elevator make me wary that it'll give way in a few years.

Maybe the iLevel is better since it allows for height adjustment. Also these things are made of sstainless steel and therefore have a potential of scratching the base of aluminium notebooks right?

EDIT: Went with the Elevator....should be here soon

I can also confirm that leaving your laptop on a stack of books is a big no no as books don't conduct heat they're insulators. Prior to removing my stack of books my MBP idled at 61/62C, making the fans work more at around 2600+ RPM all the time. Heck the base of my LCD had started to darken due to intense heat dissipation.

After removing the books, temperature dropped by 7 degrees and now idles at 55/56C, now the fans are always at the default 1999/1993 RPM. I still think im suffering from the misapplied thermal paste syndrome because the CPU temp is around 55C whilst the enclosure is around 30/33C. thats a big gap which means heat removal from the CPU isn't that great.

Anyway get your laptops of the books, you're killing yout Logic board slooowly

Holy Crap- I thought I scrutinized more than anyone over a decision...:D

Congrats on finally making a decision- I think you will be happy (and would have been with most of your options)

I am the sort of person that won't make a decision because I can find a flaw in each of my options...then I look six months down the road and find that my not making a decision has has a negative conseqence as well. (In your case- it taking you two months + to make your decision will now result in major back surgery due to slumping over your portable Mac!) :)

Ugg- decisions, decisions, decisions- hate to make them- hate it even more when I make bad ones!

2nd that. Got it yesterday and it's extremely well done. They have
a great customer service, they emailed me before sending as they
were not sure about my address (paypal issue). Great product!

I was debating between the mStand and the Elevator and decided to go with the Elevator. I think the height, the no-question accessibility to the IR and Superdrive and the price far outweighs the fashionability of the mStand -- plus I think I'm good looking enough to warrant ignoring the MPB's stand when a lucky lady is in the room ;)

I should be receiving it sometime this week...

I went with the elevator too and really like it. If I had to pick one negative it would be that since it comes in separate pieces and can be easily disassembled, it's not THAT well connected (the arms slide into the piece that attaches across but don't lock in at all) so when I move it a little I have to make sure to grip onto the plastic piece in both places where the arms connect so the arms don't start sliding out of the plastic. It's no biggie, but I'd rather it stayed together better. I really hope the computer doesn't start sliding off after a couple months but I'd guess that wiping down the rubber pieces that keep it in place might help with that. Also it's at a more reasonable angle than the mStand in my opinion. The mstand is REALLY angled... I don't see the use of that. The elevator is more horizontal which leaves more room underneath and there is absolutely no problem with the screen tilting back enough. It's a little shakey... give the comp a little nudget and it'll rock back and for the teeniest little bit.

You can definitely see pictures of the mStand off the website. I bought one a couple months ago and I love the angle of it.
To answer the question about bending the mStand, in short, no. It would be very difficult to bend the metal, since it is very thick.
In short, the mStand looks pretty! :)

I actually have the iLap and it's flexible enough to use as a desktop stand as well as something on your lap to prevent an overwarm MBP from causing any discomfort. All of the above accessories sound good to me..
