Absolutely wait.

Purchased a base nMBP 2016 8/256 and returned in a heartbeat, not because of performance (it was fast), but because I firmly believe the keyboard has a design or manufacturing flaw. Two keys did not register the strokes unless I pressed them quite hard.

In hindsight I am happy the keyboard was faulty because it gave me a reason to return it for a full refund, I believe that with only 8GB of RAM this laptop would not have worked well in 3-4 years from now.

My current machine is a MBP from 2010 with 8GB and 512GB SSD, so I have been a bit silly actually to purchase a brand new laptop in 2017 with the same amount of ram of a 7 year old one and a smaller hard disk.

I believe there will be a much improved gen 2 this year, with lower price and fixed keyboard.
To say that it is much improved I think is pushing expectations. Maybe a very slight decrease in price, and I doubt Apple will have to claim to fix any keyboards since this is an improved version found on the MacBook, which, by the way, has not had its keyboard "fixed".

I'm on the MBP 15" with touch bar, and the keyboard works flawlessly. Exceptions would be probably some poor quality control experienced by some users with squeaky keys.

To add to my previous post, the base nMBP 13" model has been £100 cheaper than Apple's Website since Xmas. When is the last time that a new product from Apple is consistently sold at a £100 discount? Something isn't right.

There hasn't been a consistent £100 discount. There is currently a £100 discount across many UK retailers that I believe originated at Currys/PCWorld.

Everything is absolutely fine. The new MacBook Pros have been a massive success for Apple.

Sounds more like you *personally* find the pricing unacceptable, which is fair enough. That's a subjective thing.

I beg to differ. Currys (and JL) have had this £100 off on a rolling 2-week since xmas...never seen something like this with a new mac. First it was a cash back, then a simple discount.

When I returned mine (to Currys), the salesman said he had many new MBPs returned due to faulty keyboards.

Of course, I cannot qualify the 'many', so let's take it with a pinch of salt.

My keyboard was horrendous. I live in a semi detached house, wife upstairs in bed and me downstairs in the TV room using my new toy. She could hear me typing (and no, I don't have a heavy hand...) and complained. I could not have used it in a library. Never had that problem with my older mac...

Perhaps it was just my keyboard faulty (2 keys didn't work properly and too loud).

Re the price, yes, I still find the £1445 a joke if I think that it has the same RAM as my 7 year old MBP. I got sucked in and purchased it because it is simply GORGEOUS and I am a sucker for design.

JL are price matching Currys. I don't think it has been a permanent sale since Christmas, though. That said, I wasn't aware of the cash back period.

And that's fair enough - everyone's entitled to their own opinion!

Have you checked how much RAM you are actually utilising? You might find 8GB is more than enough.

Wait.

The KL version is very likely to have the various issues in the 2016 models ironed out, as well as offering potentially better battery life, faster, etc.

The 2016 versions were not executed well.

Finally, Skylake is already obsolete with KL chips available. Do you want something with obsolete tech at the obscene prices Apple is charging?

I don't believe they'll be released before then.

Previous generation does not mean obsolete, in fact with Kaby Lake sporting the same architecture, we're merely talking about a change in clock speed and some tweaks in efficiency. Based on the roadmap that the MacBook Pro was launched, it couldn't have been shipped with Kaby Lake CPUs.

And if you think the 2016 versions were not executed well, I'm not too sure you can have too high hopes for the refreshed model. :)

This has been widely debated here.

- Some say its couple of months away from release (which i doubt)

- Some say that in WWDC they would release the KL update (Which is possible because Kuo expected them to begin mass production in early H2)

- At least we will see them in october/september. (Given the fact that they referenced them in the new beta. Seems unlikely that they are this far away. But you newer know... But it makes sense because Apple usually wants yearly cycles)

But in reality, this 2016 MBP has received bad reviews, like any other Apple device before (to my memory).

And that Apple fixed the battery issues quickly, they do realise that the battery is too weak. Skylake is getting outdated quickly and that the competition is breathing to their necks (which Apple hasn't cared before....)

But given the facts it would make sense to piss on to the current 2016 beta-testers in the face and just release updated version rather sooner than later and wipe this under the carpet.

A little hard to follow this. Maybe you're talking about reviews and the battery of the 13" TB? It has received some grief about battery life. Apart from that, reviews and battery life have generally been pretty good, despite the wailing and gnashing of teeth in many blogs and forums about the changes to the keyboard, ports, etc. So I don't know if that will be enough to move Apple to rush to the next upgrade.

Unfortunately, Apple does not seem to pacify the crowd by releasing "fixes" that come so quickly. The first revision of the MBP w/ touch bar will have it's standard 10month or so cycle. So don't expect a release that soon to "wipe this under the carpet sooner than later". That's not Apple.

I think that very much depends on sales. If the current models sales have tanked, they will upgrade sooner, if it is selling well they will wait longer. Ultimately - the number of people they piss off will be small if sales are not holding up. Also those people will bascially not be in the market for a new laptop for a couple of years (on average)

Yep indeed! And seems they've made a killing with revenue spikes from the new MacBook Pro!

Thats kind of not the point. The question is not did they make money - the question is did they make as much money as they expected to make ? Are sales meeting projections ? Are they losing market share to s the Surface, Dell etc? No third party report is going to tell you if the sales are meeting Apple's internal objectives for the MBP

I accidentally ordered an XPS 15 9560 :s I saw a deal with the i7-7700, fingerprint reader, 16gb (1dimm), 1TB SSD (this is what got me), and 4k touch display for about 2k USD with next business day on-site prosupport.

Hopefully it won't be a totally ****ed up horror story; otherwise I'll wait for kaby lake macmacs.

Accidentally ordered?

Never. Some of us can't afford to spend that kind of cash without putting thought into it.

Nice accident

Dell does have a return policy so if you really didn't intend to order one, you can return it. I'm not sure how you can accidentally order one however. You need to type in your credit card and confirm the order, so at one point you were serious enough to consider getting it.

With Dell, the next business day on site support is a MUST. If something is wrong, you do not want to ever have to call their pleb support line and mail things in. Knock on wood it won't have any major problems

I'm in a similar situation and I've decided to wait, I have a 2011 MacBook Pro that I want to update, I'm waiting for Kaby Lake later this year, there is also likely to be a price drop as well. My only dilemma is whether to get the 13" or 15" MacBook Pro with touch bar, I'm definitely going with the touch bar version. Overall I think it will be a big upgrade compared to my 2011 MacBook Pro.
I was thinking of upgrading my 2013 MacBook Pro to the new one but having read this thread and your post I think it'd be better to keep hold of this one for a while longer?

Every single Dell device I've ever owned has died on me either:

1. The month or week the warranty expired.
2. When I called customer service about a minor problem that they had to troubleshoot me through.

I'd wait. I don't do anything that's graphic-intense, so I now have a Late 2013 15" and a Mid-2015 15"; both with discrete gpu. Both are indistinguishable performance-wise to the mid-level 2016 15", and neither have the keyboard/trackpad of the 2016 (which is, in my opinion, atrocious; as well as failing our command's ergonomic review).
