Since the cropped sensor is only using the inner part of the lens, it should only use the inner part of the polarizer as well.
Therefore, in my mind it would be comparable to a longer focal length.

Question though is how severe the effect is and can it be avoided/compensated for at the wide end. At the end of the day the effect is real, up to you if you think it is acceptable or not. Probably as long as you dont go completely wide, so use from 16-18mm or longer then you will be fine. Then just use with caution when at wide end.

Yeah, not doubting what you're saying.
Just figure the way I'm planning on using it, it should be fine.
Really leaning towards the Haida now. I'll report back once I got something in hand.

I prefer the 5 star option to! We've not been on holiday together in about nine years.
I keep trying but she prefers to be at home.
I can understand Mrs AFB enjoying the security and stability of being at home. Have you ever thought of a romantic B&B or luxury 5 star overnight getaway for you and her? She may be more able to do that as a quicker break, and you might be able to do it near to home, so it's a baby step for her in getting out of the house for a short time.

This year we are trying somewhere new it looks to have an interesting bay front location but I dont know whether to just pack light i.e. one camera 1-2 lenses, or whether to go large and bring tripod and filters and some "just in case" lenses. I am leaning towards the minimalist approach but the thought of the decision is making me nervous... Thoughts welcome.
Ken, I know of a cheap Aussie sherpa. Take it all with you! ;)

Trust me I've suggested every option possible. She just isn't able to function like she used to. Both physically and mentally.

That is so understandable. Trauma of the sort you two experienced is a heck of a thing to recover from. I'm glad she has your loving gentleness to be there for her and support her at her own pace. :)

The joy of an autistic child I'm afraid. Even after she leaves, we get to deal with the aftermath.

Maybe one day I'll get her away for a holiday. Until then I'll have to make do with the odd photography trip.

Would be interested in your findings re Haida as they look promising. I looked at them at the photoshow but they couldnt sell anything there, you had to buy off of ebay.

I know I am at risk of banging on about it so sorry if i am. What about a campervan? A safe known environment for her that you can go places and she has her safe zone to retreat to if it gets too much?

I got it on order. Might be a while to get it in, the availability is still pretty scarce as it's a new part.

Besides the circular polarizer, what stop neutral density filter would you guys recommend?
Trying to decide between a 3-stop, 4-stop and 6-stop.
The plan is to only buy one for the time being.

Rule #1, always keep the wife happy!

I'm lucky here, my current support worker ceased to be available recently due to the federal government shutting down a damn successful mentoring program for folks living with mental health challenges... However, now, instead of being government managed, I am self-managed and can choose to have whomever I want to be my support worker, within reason. Turns out I can use an amazing acquaintance and trusted friend from a local photography group as my support now, to get out and be able to get the long-exposure images I do. This time around, I can do it more frequently than the once a month I was limited to, and can actually get out each week instead! :D

Yes, indeed! Would be great to be able to meet you lovely folks in person. We'll have to have a global convention, of sorts, one day, and all drop in on each other, or meet at some exotic location!

I recommend a 3 stop to begin with. 3, 6, 10 is all you need, unless you wan daylight long exposures, so could add a 15/16 stop.

I would say priority is the 6 and 10 filters. Maybe get the 10 first as you will be going extreme in the early days until you get the hang of it. Then get the 6 and see how you get on. The 15/16 stops are very strong so I would buy one of those when you know you want it.

After the NDs, I would go with a 2 stop or 3 stop soft edge grad.

I have mist filters and i have a reverse grad. The former are gimmicks that can be done in post and the latter I have yet to fully test out.

Don't waste your time with tobaccos or any other landscape filters. The polariser, NDs and a grad are all you need.

Keep us up to date with your progress.

What about the mist one? Lol. Used my once. Don't think it's getting used to often.

Camper van, caravan, tent. All the same to her.
